This is such a bullshit comment. That's like saying all promoters are full of shit and out to screw musicians out of their money.

I've been in bands with plenty of people who weren't singers who had a shitty work ethic.

Most of the years I spent as a singer I also doubled as a drum roadie. I think some people are lazy. If you have a lazy singer in a band it is no worse then having a lazy guitar player or lazy drummer.

I would think that this has more to do with commitment levels and vision then it does anything else. If you have 3 people who are driven and 1 who is not it usually comes out in the wash....

We all help each other tear down once we get our own instruments packed up. old sKool and I have heavy-ass cabinets and Eric just has a lot of stuff to carry.

My philosophy on setup and tear down is that if you are running your own sound and lights, then it's everyone's responsibility to help. We've never had any problems with that whenever we bring our own PA, though I've seen bands that have a primma donna in the midst who won't help with setup/tear down. Those players usually don't last very long.

I always help out. Sometimes I get bitched out when I start tearing down cuz I get a little too ambitious and take something completely apart, so now I just carry stuff. You can't screw that up. There have been times though, where I ended up bs'ing and turned around and everything was packed out, but oh well. PR is a part of the job too.

I won't even mention who's responsible in Camp bad daZe for loading in/out those heavy-ass cabs that go with our small PA four times on the nights we use that PA for small club gigs ... Some lazy effing singer with a poor work ethic, methinks.

I'll admit, as Sanchez pointed out, that a lot of times at the end of the night, by the time I'm done dealing with the club owner, most stuff is torn down and loaded out. However, I like to point out (jokingly but serious at the same time) that I didn't pick drums or guitar as my instrument for a reason.

Yeah, I used to try to help too much like that and end up taking shit apart that's supposed to stay together. I always figured this guy knows how to tear shit down the right way, I'll just create more work for him, so I'll help carry shit.

This topic can involve many different x-factors as previously mentioned. Some that I've seen are: plain & simple burn-out, people getting sick of dealing with each other, no-shows, a line-up change then the chemistry is gone, trust is lost between members for any reason, a certain band member getting funny with the money, certainly different goals & ambitions, someone has to take a job that doesn't allow band participation anymore, ect... & the list can go on & on. I've always had a problem dealing with the fact that a situation is over after putting in alot of effort learning songs, attending practice, ect. & that takes plenty of valuable time. It's then becomes experience to use again next time so there is some benefit to take from it to carry on.
