I thought it was great. Incubus did a killer job with I Can't Explain. Even though I'm normally not much of a Pearl Jam fan and hate Veddar's pretentious crybaby-ness, I thought they stole the show. I've never really been into the Flaming Lips, but I thought they were at least visually appealing to watch. I was really impressed with how good of a vocalist Pete Townshend has become over the years. And as a bass player, I really enjoyed the clips they showed of John Entwistle, especially when he was messing around with his rack.
I wish the live mix would have been a little bit better. It had too much audience ambience and not enough music. Also, I wonder if Incubus's monitor mix (I think they were using IEMs) was spotty at first, because Brandon was a little flat at the beginning of I Can See for Miles.

If you like The Who, VH1 is also showing a 2 hour documentary about The Who on a show called Rock Doc - Journey of The Who. It covers their entire history and it is great.
As far as the honors show. I liked it. I did not care for The Flaming Lips performance. Overall, good show and nice to actually see some music shows on VH1.

The Who woulda been better and Zep woulda been worse.undercoverjoe wrote: I always used to wonder what would have happened if Daltry and Plant had changed bands in '68. I know, weird.

I could never get into the Who for some reason. I got one of their cassettes (By Numbers maybe?) and I thought it was horrible. The only song of theirs that I like is Bob O'Reilly or Teenage Wasteland, whatever it's called.
But hey, I love Overkill and not many others do, so too each their own!

HEY
I actually started having more respect for Pearl Jam again once they went underground and quit doing video's, interviews, etc. I think Eddie V. kinda grew out of being that whiny-ass that we all hate and seems to want people to focus more on their music than what they do or say.
Anyway, back on point, Pearl Jam stole the show - period. Honestly I thought they blew The Who away! (crucify me now). Just wasn't impressed with Daltry's vocals at all. Plus playing without Entwistle(?) was kinda lame. 2 members out of 4 doesn't equal The Who.

Have been watching EVERYTHING they've been showing leading up, but missed the
actual show. Don't watch the VH1 thing since there's rarely actual MUSIC related stuff,
but if The Who is on, it's getting watched.
The little doc where they're in the studio recording is really cool. I'll be trying to catch the
Honours show at some point. Sure it'll be replayed. Only thing that put me off is that they
have Pearl Jam (Always good, never stopped being great, no problem with Vedder at all),
Incubus, Foo Fighters and whomever else. BUT, IT'S THE WHO. They've influenced so
many people through all these decades. I'm sure a lot of their contemporaries and others
would've loved to have been part of it. Cripes, they and The Kinks were the only bands
that the Punk movement respected. So WHY do they get Jack Black and Adam Sandler
on their? They're not even good at THEIR jobs. Figured it was a bad try at getting younger
people to watch, but it was a lame move.
Regardless of that, it's pretty amazing that these guys in their 60s can get on a stage and
destroy so many a third of their age. My son was watching a bit of the stuff with me and
he really likes them now. Granted, a guy blows up his drums...and 11 year old's goin' to
see the fun in that.

You can watch the whole thing on the VH1 site. It's split into segments so you can skip the annoying bits.VENTGtr wrote:Have been watching EVERYTHING they've been showing leading up, but missed the

It's a great show. I liked all of the Who covers. Flaming Lips totally nailed a 60s vibe - visually, musically, chemically....

Good idea. Have to do that. Ya, the Flaming Lips are an odd one. They all seem able toJimi Hatt wrote:

play great..but that guy's voice.... Saw in the previews he was in one of those big, plastic
balls walking on the crowd.
They were Austin City Limits a while back. Pretty entertaining.
Ya, Zak is really good. I should look around to see if Pete's kid is doing anything else.
He was pretty good in the bits I've seen him.
