Goin' under the blade....

Post by MY_TURNING_POINT »

After several months of suffering from herniated disks in my back my surgeon suggested that I get immediate back surgery on Monday to prevent any more permanent nerve damage.

To be honest I'm a bit nervous as I've never had surgery before but I'm also very relieved to finally get the problem solved.

BTW, for those wondering about MTP, there will be NO cancellations to our schedule and we will be playing a double shot next weekend with Friday night at the Osceola Hotel and Saturday night at Mojo's in Clearfield. (even if I have to sing in a wheelchair!)

I hope all goes well and we'll see ya all out playing next weekend!

GOOD LUCK BRO!!.. I got your back (No pun intended!!)... I had the same thing done 20 yrs ago. I will be very impressed if you play the double shot!..I don't think I could have. Not to burst your bubble or anything. But I couldn't have done it. Hat off to you for the dedication tho!
I also will say a prayer! (Just did)

Prayers

Post by tornandfrayed »

Prayers out to you for a speedy recovery. I can really get behind your thoughts on not canceling any shows but just remember not to fuck around with this. If the surgery goes well, and I am sure it will, then I would hate to see if get fucked up by pushing too hard right afterword. Not telling you what to do or anything but...

I had a similar surgery done twice. First one worse then before. 2nd one felt great right away.

Just listen to your body and best of luck and Prayers go out to you...

Good luck! I just had the discectomy done on June 9th and was virtually Pain free within hours of the surgery. The pain from the condition is 100x worse than the pain from the surgery! Mine got so bad in the last week that I couldn't be on my feet for more than 60-90 seconds. Within 7 hours of going under I was up walking around the hospital for periods of up to 1/2 hour. Take it easy afterward though because you will feel like you can do anything but it is very easy to reinjure yourself. I was back to work at the machine shop (part time) in two weeks and am starting back full time on Monday! Best desicion I ever made! Keep us posted!

Thanks for all the concern guys and I really appreciate the nice words. From everything I hear if all goes as expected I should me up and moving pretty reguarly in a day or two. That's why I made the decision to keep the shows. I hate to cancel anything, especially at the last minute but if my body is telling me not to play I'll really have to consider that.

I just figure if I've been playing and working in the pain I've been in then I should be able to handle this weekend. We'll see.

I'll let y'all know how it goes! Thanks again!

Well Jim, it's Monday and I've thought about you more than a couple of times. Sure hope all went well and as has been said before in this post, don't jump on that stage before you're ready.

Hey

Post by MY_TURNING_POINT »

Well guys, I was too out of it last night to post but it's Tues. afternoon and I feel surprisingly great. (aside from obvious incision pain) When they opened me up they saw it was a lot worse than originally thought so a simple 20 min. operation turned into 2 1/2 hrs. I was running a high risk of suffering from permanent nerve damage.

All that aside it was a success! I feel great and can't wait to get back to business! My surgeon used the be the team surgeon for the Philadelphia Eagles so I knew i was in pretty good hands!

I gotta say, again. Thanks for everyones support. It's easy to forget sometimes what a close-knit group of FRIENDS each of us have on this page. You guys are awesome! I love RP!

Was it Dr. Harvey? He did my discectomy and was a team Dr. for the Eagles. If it was, he did a great job on me.

Great news Jim, was it all those drumming years that gave you back problems?

Yes, it actually was Dr. Harvey backlash, he's a great doctor! And Bobby, I've had back problems for as long as I can remember, I'm not sure that the drumming was the cause but I'm sure it didn't help matters much either. Funny thing is I still drum about 5-6 songs at each show and I was actually in less pain drumming than singing. Maybe cause I was sitting down? Go figure. But all is good and I'm ready to rock out again!

good for you!

Dont be a dumb fuck and let nature run its course. 1 night of ecstacy = 10 yrs of quality life. Dont do anything the doc told u not to do. My old boss did and he spent 5 yrs in constant pain.

Hey

Post by MY_TURNING_POINT »

I not trying to beat a dead horse with this thread, but after much consideration and feedback from my family, band, doctors, and fellow rockpagers I've decided to cancel our double-shot weekend.

I apologize to anyone who planned on coming out to either or both of the gigs. I hate cancelling shows! My doctor's direct quote was "This doesn't mean you're done playing music but if you re-injure yourself again this weekend it very well could be!" That's all I needed to hear.

Thanks again for everyone's support on here. Now let's move on to more interesting topics such as "who likes beans the most??" :D

LATER!

I hate cancelling shows too, Jim, but this is definitely something more than worth doing it over. Glad to hear that you're doing great!
