Wo do u wish u had the range of? Recently the most talented dude I know told me he wish he had the ability to growl like me. That really humbled me, because I think he has the voice I would love to have. He and another fellow RP'er were in awe how I could go from Joe Normal to Satan in 2 seconds.

I really wish I had Rob Halford, Chuck Billy, or King Diamonds voice. I think those three guys have really unique voices. But ultimately Im cool with what god gave me.

Easy: Geoff Tate

I'venever heard another singer with the combination he has of soul, power, range, operatic highs and rich, textured lows.

And the guy smokes, and acknowledges that is has hurt his voice. Ugh....

Geoff has a great voice. I wouldnt know what to do with it. It doesnt fit into my style of music.

I just wish I could sing! I have the utmost respect for you guys who can.
I have said before, if I could sing I'd quit playing guitar in a second and i truly mean that.

But yeah I'd laboriously hone my pipes to sound like anyone of these guys:
Tim Owens - This guy is by far one of the top Metal Vocalists ever
Halford - of course (and good luck trying that one Joe)
Geoff Tate - Love him what can ya say?!
Tim Aymar - Awesome range and very gritty
Steve Perry - (good luck there as well)
Ralf Scheepers - This guy can make Halford shit his pants, he is amazing!
Definitely one of the best since Halford himself!

Of course Halford is holding his own w/ the best of them, he's what? 55 years old, I'm not sure. But what I respect about him is that he changes his vocal delivery so that no two song sounds the same. I really like his delivery on the last 2 Priest albums, not so much for the music, but the new one is worth just hearing the Metal God himself.

Motherfucker gives me goosebumps with his booming clean belting, then his screams come in and rip your face off. I envy that range, I wish i had it, and I strive to get that range with my own voice.

If you've ever heard their version of Holy Diver, or As Darkness Falls, you know what I mean.

George Jones-- THE country voice. He had excellent range, dead-on control, and is still country as country ever got. He's getting a bit rusty in his later years, but I'd still want his voice.
Vern Gosdin-- Very limited range, but SO deep and resonant and smooth.
Joe Diffie-- Maybe the overall best country singer ever. 5-octave range, control off the chart, unbeatable tone and timbre, soulful, and it all just comes natural to him. Sick, just sick.

Rob Halford-- THE metal voice. Nothing I can add.
Bruce Dickinson-- Don't YOU wish you could blast like him? You might think you can... you're wrong.

Paul Rodgers-- One of the most soulful singers in rock history. Still cooking like a young dude, too.

Jimmy Martin-- Yeah, bluegrass... he had a voice with the approximate frequency response of a fire siren. It jumped out over top of every instrument, and made you forget how poor the recording quality was. They said he used to stand back a few feet from the mic, so he wouldn't blow stuff up. Bill Monroe's a close second, he made bluegrass the athletic endeavor it is today.--------->JMS

Good choice on Paul Rodgers. Saw him with Queen a couple years ago. He just keeps getting better and better.

Re range... I can lay down the blues, scream the rock n roll and cruise through the ballads but, I'd like to develop a smooth falsetto like Bonnie Raitt or Sheryl Crow. Still working on that

I like kix. they were a good band. Their singer does have a good voice. I still think that Klaus Mein, Geoff Tate, Steve Perry, Paul Rogers, David Coverdale, Bono, Lou Gramm, freddy mercury, etc are the best ..

Klaus Meine, and David Coverdale! Those are 2 that usually don't make it on anyones list.
I've been on a Whitesnake kick for the last few days, mostly their older stuff, haven't heard the new one yet, is it any good?

Saints and Sinners, and their self titled are my favs Whitesnake albums

As far as the Scorps, I like Love Drive, Animal Magnetism, Blackout, and Love at First Sting. Didn't really get into them a whole lot after that.
World Wide Live is probably one of my fav live albums ever. It has alot of energy and the music sounds great on that recording.
Live After Death was another good one.

Wonder if this was ever a thread topic? wth i'll give it a shot...

Bobby Kimball from Toto. Great range and tone. I saw him two years ago a Seven Springs and he still sing his songs in the original key. In case some of you don't know, Toto is my all time favorite band. Joe Williams would be good, too, along with Don Henley, from my second all time favorite Band, the Eagles.

great replies by all to a great question......so many of the aforementioned vocalists are my inspirations, so no need to be redundant and mention them again......my choice would be Tony Harnell from the Norwegian band TNT (though Tony is from the states), and he also made some recordings with Westworld, which includes Mark Reale on lead guitar from New York's own RIOT!!!

I would have to say my favorite rock voice is Steve Winwood.

The stuff he did with Spencer Davis, Traffic and Blind Faith are my all time favorite vocals.

I got to give Ray Charles an honorable mention also. What I Say, Georgia and I Can't Stop Lovin You are all great vocals.

Small Faces and Humble Pie lead singer, Steve Marriott, remember 30 Days In The Hole,had a great voice.

Steve Marriot always reminded me of Rod Stewart for some reason. They have a similar approach and vocal range. 30 Days is an awesome tune man!
In fact some of the lyrics were my signature at one point on here.
