Post by tornandfrayed »

I have been laying low for awhile but I have to ask what you all think abou this Kerry / Edwards ticket. I really think that this was the best thing that Kerry could have done. What do y'all think? Go ahead and vent, I can take it!

It probably doesn't do much for Kerry's campaign from an electoral college point of view. His only real advantage is being from the south, but I don't think he can help anywhere but in his home state of NC. That's not much of a contribution by a VP nominee. The rebs just aren't going to vote for a blueblood yankee from Massachusetts unless Robert E. Lee is VP.

Edwards' resume doesn't exactly help either. A freshman senator with a background as a criminal trial lawyer isn't exactly stellar. He doesn't bring much positive to the table, but the anti-lawyer/anti-tort vote will frown on him.

My grandma thinks he's really good looking and will draw the female vote. C'mon ladies, you don't really vote that way, do you? I mean, who cares what the VP looks like?

The biggest advantage to John Edward is his ability to communicate with the spirits of the dead. When he needs advice, he can chat it up with Abe Lincoln or Thomas Jefferson. That's a pretty big plus in my book.

Lonewolf,

Seriously, I've had women tell me that they voted for so and so because they liked the way he looked! (I am not joking!).

I personally think that for any major election, along with punching the persons name, you should be required to answer 5-10 questions about that politicians stance on major issues. If you score under 60 or 70% - your vote doesn't count! That would eliminate people that vote and don't even have a clue who they are voting for.

I know, I know, People have a right to vote!! (But they should have a duty to know what they are voting for!!)

Anyway, with the whole voting on the way the candidate looks - I wonder how many of those kind of votes Hillary would get if she were running for president?

It seems as though the polls show the exact opposite. The fact that he was a trial lawyer was seen as positive by about %67 / %33.

Also his 6 year's in Politics was also seen as positive.

The truth of the matter is that the vice president has not had that much impact in the past ( Quayle ) but maybe this c ould be different.

I personally think that this guy is the future of the Democratic party. I think his minimal time in politics is a plus.

I also believe that I would prefer him as prez over Dick Cheney.

I'd like to see that poll. If it was properly done, there should have been a large percentage of people that viewed it as neutral.

Quayle changed the role of the VP and it looks as though the role will be more significant going forward. Al Gore spent a lot of time updating the government's IT capabilities which helped to cut operating costs. Cheney is kinda like Bush's right hand man. If you call Bush the CEO, then you could call Cheney the COO, or Chief Operating Officer.

You could be right about Edwards playing a big part in the future of the D. Sure, 6 years of politics is a positive, but when you are talking VP, its not a big positive. It means he at least got his feet wet and that's better than nothing. His outsider status is probably viewed as positive by many with a disdain for the "inside the beltway" mentality. Unfortunately, everything is done inside the beltway, and an outsider is just that...an outsider. Politics is all about influence and collaboration and its a tough challenge for a lone wolf.

I would have preferred Edwards as the presidential candidate, and Kerry as the guy who lost the primaries. I like the outsider status... having known a few career politicos, like fish and houseguests, the longer they stay, the more they stink up the house.
The injury-lawyer thing, okay that's a real downside, but, hey, maybe he'd be all, " No taxes unless we get money for you!" like Edgar Snyder. ------>JMS

But what if he stands in front of a green screen, with projections of cars crashing, and money falling, like Berger & Green? :D

I don't really see the resemblance between the Munsters and Kerry / Edwards.

What I see is someone who has the potential to make people believe. The only thing that GWB makes me believe is that he has a lot of money and he wants his friends to have more. I believe that.

Personal looks aside, everyone raps on Edawards about being a trial lawyer. I agree that attorneys are part of an inherent problem but I also see Edwareds as being someone who actually had to do something to get his money. He did alot of it on his own. When you look at the list of the rfichest candidates you will notice that most of them have accumulated wealth through the somewhat laborious task of inheritance.

I guess we will see. I do agree that we have lost our government. I would be in agreement with the people taking it back. That won't happen though, we are too comfortable asnd those of us that are not confortable are too busy working for every little thing to think about giving it up and banding together to make a difference.
