What is the 1st Concert You Saw?

Kiss 1979 Dynasty tour. I was 11 and my mother took me as a surprise. When I was 11 there were no other bands except Kiss. 16 years later to the very day I took my younger cousin to see the Kiss reunion tour with all four original members back in makeup. They were his favorite band at the time. It was pretty cool.

Well My First concert was in York, My Grandma took me... It was Hee Haw Live! Buck owens, Susan Raye, The Hagar Brothers, and Goober! I remember it pretty well!

Now My first Rock Concert was the Kiss Lick It Up tour at the Stanley Theater in Pittsburgh, Accept opened that Show! I saw KISS every year after that!

My first was the Bob Seger System at the Altoona High gym (before the new fieldhouse). Just about the only thing he had done up until then was Katmandu. The warm-up band was The Boys who did that one hit wonder called Timothy about the dudes that ate their friend in a coal mine instead of starving to death. Wholesome entertainment there. Maybe ~ 1975?
I don't remember anything about the show except it was real echoey.

My first "Concert" i'd have to say was either Kenny Chesney at the Bedford County Fair or Aaron Tippin at the Huntingdon County Fair..not sure which one I went to first.

After that I've never been to see a country singer since...

Local was "Bashful" at my high school.... National was "C.O.C" and "Metallica" at the Bryce in State College...

Okay, here I go dating myself again.

My first concert was "Danny and the Juniors," (remember "At the Hop?"), at the Masonic Hall in Tyrone, In 1962.

I was a sophomore or Junior in high school. I'm not sure since I don't know exactly what time of year it was when I saw them. Their backup band was the Thunderbolts for Tyrone/Port Matilda. I had just gotten my first guitar and I would go to all the Thunderbolts' ' gigs to watch Larry Lykens, their guitar player. I was oblivious to girls, dancing and anything else. I would just sit and watch Larry play. When I got home after the dance, I would try to play what he did, especially the Ventures stuff.

Someday, I should probably send Larry a check for all the guitar lessons he gave me without knowing it back then. He was my first guitar idol and a great guy, too.

My Mom took me to see The Guess Who and Mahogany Rush w/Frank Marino at the Maurice Stokes Bldg. at Saint Francis when I was in 6th grade. She's only 15 years older than I so she was pretty young herself. I remember loving the music but wondering what that strange smell in the air was!!!

I also missed many awesome concerts due to 'circumstances beyond my control' too, namely my mother wouldn't allow me to go with my brother. The first 'concert' I was allowed to attend with my brother was Sha Na Na at the Allentown Fair in 1980. It could have been Pink Floyd at the Spectrum in Philly, but noooo! (At least my brother got to see them. ) The first actual concerts I attended were Men At Work and Skid Row, Cheap Trick and REO Speedwagon, '84 or '85ish, in the Norfolk, VA area. The BEST concerts I've been to, so far, have been Jimmy Page and the Black Crowes in June 2000, and last year's Allman Brothers' show kicked some major ass!

I saw a few shows at Clarion State College when I was a kid. The first being Poco. Great show. The first big league show was Kansas with Cheap Trick opening at the Civic Arena in '81. That was the only time I was at the arena when they opened the roof. It looked like a chimney when it first opened up......

I used to love concerts at the War Memorial! Standing outside all afternoon so you could get front row....good times!! I caught Jake E. Lee's sweatband and guitar pick from an Ozzy show there in the '80s. I still have the guitar pick.

Mine was Bon Jovi/Skid Row at Point Stadium 1989. Rained like hell and Bon Jovi hit the stage playing CCR's "Have You Ever Seen The Rain?" JBJ was rocking a Steelers jersey. Sebastian Bach got arrested after the show for whapping a security officer over the head with a whiskey bottle.

My dad owned a bar growing up, so the first musical shows I saw were locals like Louie Brumbaugh, Rossi Hill Band, and Xcel Rocks. As for nationals, I was lucky enough to see Metallica on the Ride the Lightning tour and then again opening for Ozzy on the Puppets/Ultimate Sin tour. I was 13-14. It blew my mind. Life just wasn't the same after that. For some reason seeing Christ On A Stick at the 5th Ward sticks out in my young mind too. No wonder I'm damaged.

king's x, joe satriani, and dream theater in like... i think '02. great show. third row, right in front of john petruci (or however you spell it). great show. it's what turned me on to king's x and now i think they are a large influence on my playing. and of course satch freakin blew me away... that guy is not natural. and then dt. ahh yes. oh my god, i love dream theater... mike portnoy kicks ass... no two ways about it... jon myung... i wish i could move my fingers like him, man... holy shit...

People like to trash Kiss, but they inspired a shitload of future musicians. Including thrash bands. D.D. Verni (Overkill) says they were a HUGE influence on him. "I just wanted to be like Gene Simmons." I was a little redneck kid growing up in Belleville and heard "Rock And Roll All Night" on the radio and loved it. I was about 10 years old, and my older sister (R.I.P. Bev) took me to a store and told me I could get anything I wanted. I was looking for the 45 and they didn't have it, but they did have "Kiss Alive." I remember opening that double album in the car, looking at the pics and just thinking, "HOLY SHIT!" For all I knew, Kiss coulda been 7 black guys or like KC And The Sunshine Band, but when I read the inside of that album and saw the pics of those dudes, I was immediately inthralled. (I blame all future drug use on them ) Still, to this day, THAT ALBUM KICKS ASS!

Back to the subject, I saw Doc Holliday open up for the Outlaws in Johnstown in the early 80's for my first concert. DH had a keyboard player that was right up front at the edge of the stage, that was a wildman. Me and my friends never thought much about keyboard guys, but this dude was sooo into it and put on such a show, that we always remembered his name. Eddie Stone. Fast forward to an Overkill show at Jaxx in Va. about 20 years later... I see this SMOKIN hot chick hangin around before 'Kill hit the stage, and somebody tells me that she posts on the 'Kill board under the name of "Stone." So I go up and introduce myself, and she tells me she's fron the south and that this is her first 'Kill show, etc... So I asked her why her handle on the 'Kill boards was Stone, and she says because that's my last name. So I tell her the story of my first concert, and Eddie Stone, and in the back of my mind I'm thinking she's gonna think I'm a complete moron, just because she's from the south and her last name is Stone, she's going to know a keyboard player from some insignificant southern rock band, who never quite hit the big-time. Turns out that she's Eddie Stone's WIFE! True story, swear to GAWD! We're now very good friends, and "talk" to each other regularly.

It's a small world after all....
