I finally purchased a PRS. Wait, no, I purchased a PRS SE Custom. Still, I've never picked up a $500 dollar guitar this nice. I've found about 15% more playing speed I didn't even know I had. I love this guitar. Now I want a real PRS even more!

I never played a real PRS, but I did play a copy made by a company called Dillion. I was very impressed with the instrument. Dillion specializes in copies. I also played a Stingray copy that seemed to be a much better instrument than the OLP hanging on the opposite wall.

I've played the "top of the line" PRS models and let me tell you, the SE
Custom IMO will play better. I owned an SE Custom and sold it but I will
get another one soon. Great guitar period. Not" great for the money."

Anyone else have one? What do you think. My only complaint at this point is I cannot seem to get enough sustain out of it, which kinda surprises me.

I have a stock PRS Cu24. It sustains forever. I have to disagree with the previous posts comparing them--the veneer flattop SE versions are great guitars, but they aren't like their thicker solid wood carved top big brothers. The fingering may be close, but that is only a part of the equation. No matter how good the wood, a thin layer of veneer acts like plywood and dampens the resonance between the wood and the strings resulting in less sustain. Veneer works well on hollow and semi-hollow electrics because of this dampening effect--it cuts down on unwanted bull-rhino feedback.

I think the biggest difference (that you can change) between the regular version and the SE are the pickups. You might want to look around for a PRS HFS Treble pickup for the bridge and see if that helps.

Also, if you have a hardtail, TonePros makes a bridge for them that locks it to the body and increases sustain. http://www.tonepros.com/

Edit: My PRS is not totally stock. I replaced the saddles with Graph Tech String saver saddles (as I have done to all my guitars). They will definitely increase sustain and your strings will last a lot longer.

A brass nut will help a little with sustain, but it will also tend to brighten the tone by adding higher harmonics. It won't make much difference if you are stretching a high "A" note up to a "B" and holding it there.

Ive tried a couple of PRS guitars, and loved them, Someday I will own one!
As you all know, I work on the stage crew at Creation, and I can tell you alot of the artists there use PRS Guitars! In fact PRS sets up at Booth in the Mall Area, and give away a PRS SE! Well they did last year, not sure what they are doing this year though! I talked to the guy at the booth a little last year, and played the ones he had there for you to check out!

Tom, save the cash and get an SE! They are fantastic guitars. You will not regret that purchase. I'm just used to the mega sustain of my Duncan HotRails modded strat. I'll put that guitar up against a Les Paul for sustain any day. So that's where my minor bitch is coming from. Since I bought the SE 3 months ago, my Strat has been out of case for a total of 3 sets. And that was my baby.

I admit I played an SE, and it was sweet no doubt! I am a Gibson guy, but the PRS really impressed me!

Any tuning issues I was having were solved simply by putting the 5th trem spring in. What a difference that made! I also dropped in a shim and have been noticing a bit more sustain. I almost never even touch my strat anymore.
