Ready for a Drummers Get Together ? July 13th
Anyone up for it ?
CCDrums, Clint, has offered to do a clinic on his drum tuning methods. Clint has written some nice posts on a drum forum. Now see it live.
We've talked about doing a weeknight. But, whatever works for everyone.

I'm up for it whenever you guys are. Got alot of good info, whether you're just starting out or a seasoned player. I've been fortunate to pick brains and talk shop with alot of famous drummers and techs and I think you'll find the info most useful. Anyway, hope to see a decent turn out. I know I would have killed for this info when I was just starting out as a drummer. Bring a drum with you to tune or one that you have trouble tuning.....whatever, as long as you come. I guess we'll see what happens. Maybe I'll see you all then.

I'm pretty flexible, so whatever works for everyone else. Saturday and Sunday afternoons are good, as well as evenings through the week. Just let me know what seems to be the best time and I'll try to make it work.
Also, if I am going to be speaking about tuning, the focus is on tom tuning, just in case people are wondering exactly what topics will be covered. I'm open to all and any questions about any drum, but the toms will be my main focus.

We'll give this thread some time, for everyone to have a chance see it. (You mean there are people who don't check out Rockpage every day
)
Talk it up when you run in to a drummer to generate some interest. (Jeff Crownover has heard about these get togethers and wants to come.)
Bob, I forgot you had that DVD.

Since drummers may be looking at this to see what's up for the next get together, I thought I would be a little more specific on what I will cover in the clinic. The tentative itinerary will be as follows:
Introduction/background & sources
Knowing your drum's sound capabilities (i.e. wood types, depth of shell, etc.)
Head selection
Optimum tuning range (sweet spot)
The advantages of tuning using a pitch pipe
Getting the head in tune with itself
Relative head tension
Interval tuning
Tuning toms in musical intervals
Recording vs. live tuning
Q&A
As I stated before, most of the tuning information will involve the toms, but the techniques can certainly be applied to kick and snare. They are just slightly different animals than toms and we can talk about them as the questions arise. I've been looking forward to doing a group clinic like this "live" rather than via internet for a long time. I've done several one on one sessions with drummers with great results. I'm looking forward to communicating this info with all who may be interested in finding out more about this important and often frustrating topic.

Those posts are pretty clear cut and I got some good questions, but nothing beats seeing it done in person. I'm really excited to be doing this...can't wait!Hawk wrote:Check out "Cdrums21" Clint's posts on drummereworld. His posts begin on page two at post number 69.

Hey, our drummer's name is "Tom"; so, can you tune him as well?CCdrums wrote:Also, if I am going to be speaking about tuning, the focus is on tom tuning, just in case people are wondering exactly what topics will be covered. Anyway, I think this is great idea you (or younz) guys have for these drum workshops. Our drummer and I discuss often the importance of tuning the drums properly and how that improves the overall sound of a band. There is nothing worse than a tom sounding like a cardboard oatmeal box when it is hit. Having great sounding drums and working closely with the bass player can make the entire band sound tighter and fuller.
All I still have from my drum lesson days is my old drum pad. Can I bring that?
If you are referring to yourselves in the "younz" context, is it "wenz"?
