Most Over Rated Bands
Most Over Rated Bands
One of the satellite radio stations is advertising a new commercial and they even single out they have the new Bruce Springsteen E Street Band station.
I could think of 25 bands and or performers that I would rather listen to on a station than over rated Springsteen.
Who else do you feel the media goes ga ga about?

I'm sorry, but this is one band that I've tried to get into, but I just can't. I like to think that I have a pretty broad taste in music and I can dig some really out there stuff, but I just don't "get" Radiohead, no matter how hard I try. I really respect a quality falsetto, but Thom Yorke is an example of a horrible falsetto.
I do like Coldplay, though I understand why people would say they're overrated with how the press goes ga-ga over them.

I would agree with Springteen and Pearl Jam

Godsmack. I really liked their first cd but cmon you can only chug an open drop d chord so much and sing about wanting to be alone like he does in every song.
Daughtry. Without american idol he'd still be sitting on his couch watching it like the rest of us. Skipping out on joining fuel was totally stupid and anyone that is gonna pay $50 a ticket to see him at the Clearfield Fair needs smacked. Including my wife. lol.

overrated
ANY grunge band (especially Nirvana)....they killed the 80's metal...the new screaming, growling metal sucks too. I'm a guitar player and people can not believe that I don't like Hendrix and the Beatles.....both over-rated to me.

There are a couple of songs on the black album I like. I just get a kick out of it when you ask some of the younger matellica fans to name a song they like the best; they will say it is either "ONE" or "Enter Sandman". Then ask them to name a song off their older albums - They can't ! lol ...bfoust wrote:Why does everyone hate on Metallica's self-titled album? That's probably one of my favorites.. sheesh..
Kill Them All was good. Ride The Lightning was good. My personal favorite from them is Master Of Puppets ... And Justice For All, Saint Anger, Load, and Reload sucked lol ...

I'll take shit for this, but....IMO 80's metal needed to die. I know its many of you guys' bread and butter but I'm just bummed that Pearl Jam didn't kill it. At least in Central PA...not so sure about other places around the world. SO sick of it.ANY grunge band (especially Nirvana)....they killed the 80's metal...
Other over-rated:
Grateful Dead (but respect their place in music history)
The Band
Top 40 Country and Pop (isn't that a given?)
Radiohead & Coldplay (both OK, but over-rated by the media)
Celine Dion
Lynyrd Skynyrd

haha I'm the opposite on Metallica over-hyped/rated albums... Too much is made of the earlier stuff. Only a few good songs exsist before the black album (and after load). I don't get the whole "Cliff Burton is GOD" thing some people have. Newstead out plays him, plain and simple. At least among the 'early metallica' fans that I know, if you go over to their CD changer 7/10 times the only metallica album in there is the black album
Jaco Pastorius.. does that count as a band? Sure he did it way differently than most WHITE bassists, but the brothas were cranking that stuff out from 1960 on...
Some bassists: All my 6 kids' names are Jaco, I play a Fender Jazz that I ripped the frets out, and every note he plays is f*in GOLD!
Me:
He's talented yes... but WAYYYY overrated... I can think 11 more bassists that should sit in a bassist's "top ten" before Jaco...
I feel the same way about Radiohead as most it seems. I can't get into anything of theirs.

Agree big time. Their music has no substance at all.undercoverjoe wrote:I have to add U2 to this list. I am surprised no one else has yet.
They are adored by the music press people, Bono is practically worshiped by these media types, and I was never a big fan of their music. Never owned an album.
Springsteen sucks.
Seger sucks.
Clapton sucks...or just plain boring.
SRV sucks, too.

No disrepect, but I think making a name for himself as a solo artist was a better move than to join Fuel. Fuel was a good band, but I think their time in the limelight has passed and I'm not so sure that joining Fuel would have been a very wise career move. Just my opinion......nitekast wrote:Daughtry. oh man, i'm sure i'm gonna get berrated with slams on my character for this... the remones, sex pistols, and the clash. i really don't think they are that great. in fact, they aren't very talented, and their music sucks. i know, punk is about the image, but... i mean... come on, shouldn't you at least be a good musician to be in a band? not to mention, all punk is is noise. ugh.
i also agree with u2. bono is a pompous ass.
lars ulrich. i know he isn't a band, but he's still over rated. any one else see that bit in "some kind of monster" ??? "i'm just trying to be creative"
and yea, i'm sorry to anyone that plays guitar, but eddie van halen. he's not bad, but i really think paul gilbert and vai and satch and petruci and ler and dimebag were all better than him, and yes, i know the irony that i think dime is better than one of his influences, so don't flame me for something as lame as that.
