who is the most underrated drummer in the altoona/johnstown area?

I don't know if he's ever been rated, but my brother Redawg is the person that I think of. I'm not saying this because he's my brother either. He simply amazes me half the stuff he pulls off. There have been times where I actually quit playing to see what he's doing. The only bad thing I can say about his drumming is wear friggin earplugs because he's a VERY hard and agressive player.

Toby Hunter, I mean come on...the guy is good, never gives himself any credit. He's got a sweet new set I wanna hear. He doesn't have all the technical know how, but he can play very well! You gotta go see him play with Vertigo.

Jamie Shumac (or something like that) from 3rd Gear. Not only a great drummer, but can sing with the best of them.

I am going to make another smartass generalization: Anybody who doesn't play drums for the 3-4 bands that everybody goes to see around here.

That is an easy answer, my bro behind the kit, Kevin Siegel.

And also, Chris Baker of the Trace Moran Band. While he isn't the most flashy player out there (though his fills are nothing but tasteful), his groove is deeper than the Grand Canyon, and the pocket is always easy to find with him.

And also Dale of Hi-Tyde. Even though he's singing now, he is a monster behind the kit.

i would have to say billy mort(chapter 5 and whatever else project he has going) and jay from suicideswitch. both very amazing, not saying that because i know them. just a couple. oh and couple other guys i like to watch is bobby from the canes and jim b. from Wake Up S.

I don't want to play partiallity here but, I have to agree w/ Bob on the Ron Brode and Dom vote!!! Not only is Ron a personal friend of mine... but he just kicks some major ass on the drums!!!!!!! Plus I know first hand he plays his heart out w/ every beat... & never stops challenging himself.

as for Dom, he is just magical behind the kit. Just when you think he has showed you everything, BAM out comes this totally off the wall beat! I could watch him play for hours....

My vote goes to Randy Sciarrillo. He's not only one of the most underrated Drummers in the area but he can smoke the guitar with the best of 'em....
I'd say he's the most underrated overall MUSICIAN!!!!

On a national level.......

1. Matt Cameron (formerly of Soundgarden)
2. Pat Mastelano (King Crimson)
3. Phil Collins...before he was a cheeseball, he rocked! Check out OLD Genesis or Brand X!
4. Terry Bozzio (Zappa and beyond)
5. Nick Menza
6. Matt Sorum
7. Will Calhoun (Living Color, Jungle Funk)
8. Troy Lukretia (from Tesla, probably spelled that one wrong)

Locally...I don't want to leave anyone out, because I think that Altoona has one of the most percussion-rich music scenes in the area! Let it be said that I agree with Bob that our past (Ron Brode) and present (Dom Peruso) drummers exemplify the skill present in our community! It has been a continuing privlege and learning experience to jam with you two!

Hmmmm....wonder what would be possible with TWO drummers in the Grimm.....

LOL, Kent, it's Troy Lucketta. It's great to see Tesla on the road again with a kickass new record, and doing well without getting cheesy like some of the 80's bands are getting. Tesla doesn't have that air of "we must tour so we can stay young" like other bands do *coughPOISONcough*.

I also agree with Pat Mastelotto. To play for a time alongside Bill Bruford must have been awesome!

Dom is my vote...not only is he a great suppoter of live music and a fantastic drummer, he is the easiest no bulls**t guy to work with. I have been lucky enough to work with Dom for theatrical productions, including my own performance art. It is not only his talent that makes him great...it is his courage to attach himslef to new and exciting projects without making it painful! Hats off to you sir.....
