Anybody got some stuff they're really happy with writing?

Here's a verse from a new song I wrote with The Side Effects (Name Pending) .

"Our Cold and huddled masses, too weak to pledge allegiance.
We must take care of our own."
"With every day that passes, I'll file a fucking grievance.
Let's better this place we call home."

"Here we go again, taking things for granted.
Never take the time to smile."
"Waiting for the end, we make it all look slanted,
and hope it only lasts awhile."

There's more to the song, but I'm pretty proud of that verse the most.

If you got some stuff, put it up here. I wanna read it.
Plus, if you can help me name this song I'd appreciate it as well.

here is one that i wrote recently.

We The Few

No rhyme to reason
Stop the change of seasons
One chance too throw
We shrink to grow
No truth to lie for
No life to die for
We are the few
We never knew

(chorus)
Life can be the end my friend
We search for all and here we stand
Bloody fist and empty hand
We are the few who understand

No soul to sell
to heaven or hell
One day to live
Not a minute to give
No truth to lie for
No life to die for
We are the few
We are the few

Life can be the end my friend
We search for all lost in the sand
Bloody fist and empty hand
We are the few who understand

I may seem a little Bias here, My daughter wrote this song when she was in 6th grade! She is in 8th now! She wrote this after one of her classmates tried to commit suicide ( yeah a 6th grader) She was devastated that someone would even consider that! So she wrote this song from God's Point of View as if God was singing it to them! I cried the first time I heard her play it for me! She wrote the music for it too! She plays the Piano!
let me know what ya think!

A proud Dad!

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
H.I.M. (Hope In Me)

There are times, you feel like there is no more hope

But you gotta dig deeper, and find the things that make you strong

Look into my eyes, Listen to the beat of your heart

Talk to me, give me your life, I’ll show you what it’s all about

Chorus

When your hope, it starts to fade, and you're feeling far away

I can take you to a place you’d love to be

Where your moon will never fade, and your sun will always stay

You will always be safe with me

When life’s got you down, come find hope in me

There are times, you feel like there is nothing worth living for

But you gotta look ahead of you, Don’t worry bout’ what happened before

Look into my eyes, Listen to the beat of your heart

Talk to me, give me your life: I’ll show what it’s all about

Chorus

Bridge

You mean more to me, than you’ll ever see

You mean more to me… you are so precious to me

This is the last song I wrote...Tori Amos is a huge influence to me and I think you can kind of tell here. I'm actually kind of pleased with it.

"The One that Got Away"

My head's been splitting
Like a borderline's psyche
You would have laughed at that
If you were still around to hear it

I was beat down and left to die
You found me crawling and broken
Made me stand with a smile and a kiss
And a twirl of my hair around your fingers

Felt about eighty at eight years old
And now lost in a cool twenty-five
You show up to explore secret gardens
And the childhood I never saw

But all good things must end

(Ch.)There's just nothing left to say
But thanks
As you go on your golden way
I wrote this song
To try and understand you
Oh and I love you
But now there's nothing left to say
Nothing left to do

You say I can't love anyone
If I don't love myself
I say you're wrong because
can't you see that I...

You've done it this time, little girl
Why don't you kick him in the head while you're at it
If he comes back call it a miracle
Like Jesus on the water

He deserves someone undamaged
No baggage, no assembly required
You made me whole again, I'm just a little selfish
But if I really love you, I guess I'll say goodbye

Just be happy wherever you are

Repeat Chorus

There was another song I wrote probably about a year ago that I enjoy.

"Going to California"

Verse 1:
There are few things as hopeless
As winter in the mountains
Someone find me the sunshine

Its not that I mean to run
What is there left here to me
But to face my own decline

Chorus 1:
I’m writing you this letter
To tell you that I’m leaving
To tell you that I love you
But that I need to find my voice
I need to live my choice
California is my choice

I never will forget you
I take you in my heart and mind
I know you would rejoice
If you could only ever see
In California I’ll be free
In California I’ll be free

Verse 2:
You reflect me better than I am
I go where I can find that person
And start again unknown

The road called me and I answered
Goodbye is all that’s left to say
Until I find myself at home

Chorus 2:
In closing don’t be angry
Our time was not to hurt you
But will blaze on at my darkest
And shine a light upon my way
Where I stray
Where I stray

I will live beside the ocean
I will count my years in endless waves
And wish your path to drift to mine
If I could I’d have you come to me
In California you will see
In California we’ll be free

Alot of my songs are f-ed up love songs about my f-ed up love life but I do tend to cover a larger variety of topics. Actually, I'm modest to a fault so for me to actually say that I enjoy my own writing is a big thing for me...frankly I'm surprised I had the balls to post it on here.....lol!
Worth dying for. Worth killing for. Worth going to hell for. Amen.

Wow! Very cool reading this. You're all so good at it. And Sanchez, one of the titles I thought of is "This Place we Call Home". Very cool lyrics, would love to read the final version!

This was a song I wrote when I sang for Ashes of Eminence.. its one of those brutal metal " I hate my slutty ex gf songs" but I thought it was kinda cool.

Do you know what its like to fall asleep by the phone?
Every second plays a dreadful note
Slowly and painfully draining my hope
All the shit will hit the fan
When I finally lose my steady hand
Thats covering my mouth, holding back my insides
Sometimes you have to scream to hear the silence
I'll break every god damn heartstring tying me to you
Paint myself a new scene blotting out the nightmare
I'll drive anywhere, maybe crash along the way
I'd rather burn in hell than admit I ever cared
But regretably I did and the past won't change
I'll just light this cigarette and watch you go down in flames

Forget this place
Forget this town
Forget everyone around
Bury these memories
You will not bring me down

Here is part of a song I wrote you guys might not like it, but here it is.

It's called mental mission.

An acid trip that went all wrong
has locked my barin in a mortal stall
insanity running thru my vains
morbid thoughts of a world in sane

mental mission let the angels attack
mental mission drive the demons back

McDonald's is my kind of place,
Hamburgers in your face,
French fries up your nose,
Pickles between your toes,

Ketchup running down your crack,
I want my money back,
Before I have a 'Big Mac Attack' ...

Dodging shadows, past Religions creeping in
Holy Father separate me from my sin
On the outside I'm like everybody that I know
On the inside I've still got so far to go

Broken pictures all the glass around my feet
Paste the pieces of my life not too discrete
Shadows pulling on my soul in different ways
Cataclysm caught me on a brand new day

My past deception hurts like sunlight on my bloody face
I can't imagine a touch of humor in this place
Its like a puzzle where the words don't really seem to fit
Well I am turning ugly now becoming part of it

Were going down, and we ain't coming back
Were going down now every body in the whole room fade to black.

All those that have posted, these are all really cool...

Heres the lyric to a song I wrote while in Pipe Down, You can hear it at the link at the bottom of my profile!
I wrote the song after seeing a show that was talking with Kids who witnessed Domestic Violence in their homes!
Its called "When Dad Beats Mom" and heres the lyrics

Tell Me Daddy What Did Mama Ever do to you
You always beat her till she turned Black and Bruised
Did you think that, it would make you a man
If you did my father, you dont understand

That Mama Always Loved You, Said She always cared
The only time Mama needed you, is when you wasnt there!

Don't know what Mama ever saw in you
No Matter how hard, Mamma always seemed to make it thru
Sometimes she would sit there and cry
but you would never see the tear in Mamma eyes

Mama Always Loved You, Said She always cared
The only time Mama needed you, is when you wasnt there!

Domestic violence and child abuse are the two biggest things that irk me to the point of wanting to slap a grown man around to give them a taste of their own medicine. :x Here's a song that always comes to mind. It's from a band called No Use For A Name.

"Justified Black Eye"

She was confused and abused in this life
Emotional and violent moments
Seemed to take the longest time
Every single knockout dragout
Fight they ever had. Apologies and
Dignity denied he starts to
Laugh he starts to lie with
Suddenly psychotic eyes.
Every night she cried herself
to sleep she didn't recognize
Her own face in the mirror
Black & blue, so afraid
Intimidation like a child she
Hides away he would always
Try to justify what wasn't true
Justified black eye
Taken for granted she sleeps by
The phone waiting for a call
From him but it seems he's never
Coming home, 14 beers later
He is there without an answer
Once again she questions his
Lies he goes to bed with
No reply
Tomorrow morning different
Story and he'll be a different
Guy, he'll justify her black eye
With another lie. She packs her
bags in great temptation he's on
His knees again he cries a hug
& a kiss and a don't know why as
a tear drops from her swollen eye
Apologies until tonight and another
Justified black eye

2 tidbits from 2 songs… THE GRIMM

Home – A House Pickett fence, behind walls and vinyl siding , she creeps across the kitchen tile to drink the wine – blood of Christ, and though she’s married to the preacher, she finds salvation in a bottle he cares only that she’s sober on Sunday,
Preacher cares not how wayward his flock , He knows Gods word especially the part
And then he creeps into the back door , to give religion to his church whore
She rolls over to take him inside her and feel Unholy in her bed of marriage.

Walking wounded tragedy, empty hollow but still bleeding, calm chaotic clarity looking down upon the other me, see myself with my own eyes can’t look down and still deny the broken down and cracked body no prison left to flee if I should wake before I die will I breathe my final sigh?
I'm glad I didn't have to fight in a war, I'm glad I didn't get killed or kill somebody, I hope my kids enjoy the same lack of manhood

I thought I posted one yesterday, but I guess it didn't make the trip through cyberspace. Here's another try at it:

"Jesse," she called from the kitchen
"It's seven a.m., honey how do you want your eggs?"
And he rubbed at the sleep in his eyes
And the stiffness he felt in seventy-two-year-old legs
"Scrambled, " he called to her just like he did
When Jesse and Leah weren't much more than kids
Fifty years on and she still finds a way to forget

And he grumbles something like, "Some things never change..."

CHORUS:
Sometimes it works
Sometimes it hurts
Sometimes you close your eyes and sigh, sometimes you grit your teeth and cry
Sometimes you bow your head and pray to God above
But it's always good
And it's always love

He made his way to the kitchen
Kissed Leah soft on the cheek and sat down to his meal
Leah poured milk in his coffee
Jesse just smiled at he thought how good she made him feel
Even the grandkids are all fully grown
The house to themselves but they're never alone
Their love will last even after it's written in stone

And he kissed her again on the cheek because that's what she wanted

REPEAT CHO

IT'S ALWAYS LOVE -- Copyright 1996 John M. Stevens all rights reserved

I've written more technical songs, but that one touches me... it was written right after my first songwriting trip to Nashville, about a real couple, Jesse and Leah Garman from Trough Creek Valley. My dad, brother and I used to hunt on their farm, and we'd sit by their woodstove when it was too cold to hunt. They were in their late 80's, had no electricity, and looked at one another like high-school kids. I thought it was the sweetest thing ever, and kept the song idea for many years. I toyed with a straight-out "I want a love like that" kind of thing, but settled on a peaceful picture of a typical morning, with a moral of how much you go through to get it. It's a bit too cryptic for Nashville, but I knew Jesse and Leah, and it's one of my favorites.-------->JMS

The amount of lyrics I write is insane with my hip hop project that I do. But here is a verse that is from a newer song of mine called "Black Rose In The Bouquet":

Religions faltering - Leaving churches abandoned
Boarded like segregation from God is to our advantage
Responsibility's never been taken for the actions
While love is just considered another form of attraction
Living in dark days, we're living in harm's way
Hell in a hand basket disguised as the parkway
We're like gluttons with punishment that our hearts take
Wait for the right time, hold tight, then part ways
Say goodbye from the star light to moon shine
Say hello to the bar fights from good times
Say it's something you wanted something you needed
But something you settled for as the only thing that you could find
It's kind of sad that this life is so bitter sweet
Medicate our days away with use of amphetamines
Trade away our values and morals for 'better things'
Like the food and company are second rate to the center piece

"The One that Got Away"
mistikalvalkrie! I love that one! And of course, I'm a huge Tori fan. Do you have an .mp3 you can send me?

Here's a couple I wrote for BluesMoon recently:

waiting for the meltdown

these days and times we’re at a breakneck pace
s’all part a runnin’ the human race
all same no matter where you look around
we might as well face it we’re waiting for the meltdown

politicians on the 6 o’clock news
eagerly awaiting that blown out fuse
give you a speech ‘bout how they’ll save your town
they’re just as clueless they’re waiting for the meltdown

same as ancient rome when they took their fall
they were too busy justa havin’ a ball
when nero played the last song on violin
think they knew the trouble they were in

a worldwide problem, yes the warming is global
pray we don’t wind up like chernobyl
sure as hell you know it’s comin’ down
we sit on our asses waiting for the meltdown

amazon’s burnin’, government’s corrupted
how long since the last volcano erupted?
pretty sure a tornado’s headin’ for your town
let’s all be truthful we’re waiting for the meltdown

everybody’s sayin’ that it can’t get worse
greehouse gas will get ya if an asteroid don’t first
writin’ on the wall is easy enough to see
bein’ here on earth is a helluva place to be

i don’t know ‘bout you but i’m gonna have a beer
cause i don’t see the point my of livin’ in such fear
i ain’t botherin’ myself to listen to the countdown
cause life’s too short to be waiting for the meltdown

A Losin’ Battle (Ain’t No Way I Can Win)

Awake in the night moonlight shines the tears on my face
Image of you smilin’ down at me is somethin’ I can’t erase
Days pass, hours too, there’s just time and time and time
I can feel, as the clocks beats the minutes, you’ll never be mine
And I know, Oh, I know
I’m fightin’ a Losin’ Battle (ain’t no way I can win)

I wasn’t in need of distraction, thought I had it down
Life wasn’t perfect but I always managed to get myself around
The blues that in everyone’s life, well, surely they must fall
Cause if the blues ain’t part of your life are you really livin’ at all?
And I know, Oh, I know
I’m fightin’ a Losin’ Battle (ain’t no way I can win)

Lead

You can make up a life outside of your own, I know it’s easy to do
I’m here with the life I know will be safe, she’s there at home with you
Where is the grace in feeling your heart won’t ever reach it’s home
Paths that we chose,we can’t turn them back or else we’ll do it alone
And I know, oh I know
I’m fightin’ a Losin’ Battle(ain’t no way I can win)

And I know, oh I know
I’m fightin’ a Losin’ Battle(ain’t no way I can win)
If Music be the food of Love, Play on...

Hmm.

Guess I'll add a song of mine that i'm really pround of.

Would you think me crazy
If I spent my life chasing
The powerful feelings
Of a childhood high
Would you take me seriously
Would you hold it against me
If I’d trade a long life for
One true moment of joy

Am I a fool
Am I a fool
To find life’s worth in simple things
Is it absurd to live a life where I’m not possessed by all my things

When was the last time
We stared in wonder
Through misty breath
At starlit skies
Shouldn’t heaven be closer
If we’re climbing these ladders
But we’re seeing less
The higher we rise

Am I a fool
Am I a fool
To find life’s worth in simple things
Is it absurd to live a life where I’m not owned by material things

Despite this we still try to build our towers to the skies
Despite a million tries God can’t be reached by satellite
Maybe happiness is doing more with less
Or finding our small ways to make a difference

And the clock has no mercy
With it’s cold iron hands
Will time judge me worthy
Of the life it demands
Will I find comfort
in my well meaning plans
Or will I look back and sob for
the blood on my hands

Cuz even though I try to build my towers to the skies
Despite my million tries God can’t be reached by satellite
I think happiness is doing more with less
And finding my small way to make a difference

Grab my hand
Should it cross your mind
Two are closer
To the divine
Say you notice
Tell someone they changed your life
What more could anyone ask to get out of this life

I know that’s all I’d need and I’d be satisfied

I'm the happiest about the song "And I..."

“And I...”

And I...
Feel like I am face down in a river of fire
breathing in the dust and ash, no way to prespire
floating down the endless trail with no sense of fear
All I know is that I'm not the only one here

Blatently I disregarded every day
Sun goes up and sun goes down, just make sure I'm paid
Sacrificing everything to make sure I stay
But I'm sure it's not supposed to be this way

You don't f*ckin hear me
You don't f*ckin see me
You don't f*ckin speak to me
And don't you f*ckin touch me

Primal Sanctions hold to witness
Evil with intent of madness
To the core they all insist
A mock on an eternal bliss

Failing those who seem to follow
Left alone to dwell and wallow
Ancient scriptures mentioned these
Above the shores beneath the trees

And I...
Feel like I am face down in a river of fire
breathing in the dust and ash, no way to prespire
floating down the endless trail with no sense of fear
All I know is that I'm not the only one here

I am the one...
And I...

I really don't like using profanities in lyrics, just because I think it's cliché and cheap especially if thrown around like the words "a, an, or the". I do however believe in their use when you want to express the feeling in the utmost harshest intent.
