mjb, I have an hour long dvd of this. Later when Roy is trying to explain why he like it, he is all over the place. He was either wasted or hated doing the interview parts.

No doubt about it...Roy was a little wacked. There was a PBS special from around 1970 called "The World's Greatest Unknown Guitar Player", or something like that. I used to have it on VHS. It was live studio cuts with interviews and his story in between. He does stuff from the first album; "Messiah..." etc. And there is a long, nearly unbearable jam with Nils Lofgren.

The interviews between songs are very telling though. He was pretty gone, even then. He's got this far away look in his eye all the time. He was definately consumed and conflicted. He talks about growing up. His father was a preacher and he ran away from home really young (14?) to play. They show him coming back to his home for the first time and playing in church. His Tele and a Deluxe Reverb in church doing white gospel tunes.

He definitely had that Heaven/Hell thing going on.
