I am with you there,....but...Robert Plant did prance around on stage wearing young girl's blouses 2 sizes too small for him singing about fairies in the hedgerow. He did have kind of a girlish voice.

Hahaha, anything by AC/DC sounds like a rip off of AC/DC.
By only using 3 chords and writing hundreds of songs it is hard not to come up with different combinations. The drums all sound the same to me also.

Take a listen to Powerage sometime. It has a little more diversity to it. Focus in on Riff Raff. Best AC/DC song ever. I've always prefered Bon Scott era AC/DC...they were more interesting to me then. It seems like sometime in the 80's they found a formula and have stayed with it ever since.

On a different note, I always hear people giving AC/DC guff (not necessarily the OP here) but I never hear anybody doing that style that's better.

I dont know who it is right now off the top of my head but a Vanilla Ice song has that same beginning bass line as another song and every time i hear it i get it confused.

The track was sampled from Under Pressure by Queen.

It's not an exact replication though. According to Ice himself, the Queen version goes "Dum, dum, dum, da, da, dum, dum, " whereas his version goes "Dum, dum, dum, da, da, dum, pop, dum."

They used to do a few medleys of similar songs.

Another one I remember involved Lynyrd Skynyrd's "Sweet Home Alabama," Warren Zevon- "Werewolves of London," Spin Doctors, "Jimmy olsen's Blues," Bad Company's "Fell Like Makin' Love," into Steve Miller Band's "Take the Money and Run."

Vanilla Ice had a nice lawsuit handed him from the "Under Pressure" rip-off. And in another stupid move totally ripped off "Play that Funky Music" by Rob Parissi. Rob sued, and won....big time. Could be a spin-off thread. When writing, do you sit back, listen, and ask yourself if your own song reminds you of one you may have heard before? I remember reading that Paul McCartney waited to bring his song "Yesterday" to the rest of the Beatles because he was convinced he had "knicked it" from someone. Turns out it was his and his alone. George wasn't as fortunate with "My Sweet Lord" though!

Well, there are probably a bazillion songs that are in a 12 bar format. Let's not also forget everyone's favorite ballad format, the I - vi - IV - V progression. I think every doo-wop song in existence has that progression for either a verse, chorus, or bridge.

No, though that progression has become pretty well used in a lot of modern songs (e.g., When I Come Around by Green Day, Glycerine by Bush, Damn It! by Blink 182, With or Without You by U2).

The I - vi - IV - V progression was used a lot in early rock and doo-wop ballads such as Blue Moon and Unchained Melody. There were variations on it too; I believe Lonesome Town by Ricky Nelson was a I - iii - IV - V progression.

"Freebird" - Lynrd Skynrd......"Highway Song" - Blackfoot

It just seems like the guys in Blackfoot said "OK, Skynrd had a huge hit with Freebird, lets copy the song format exactly and just change the words around a little bit and we could have a hit too!"

Well, Rickey Medlocke from Blackfoot was in Lynyrd Skynyrd and left to form Blackfoot and he is now back with Skynyrd again; so, I would definitely think there was a direct influence on Highway Song from Freebird

vanilla didn't ask for permission to use it. unfortunatly, p. diddy, or saun puffy combs of puff daddy (for fucks sake, how many times can you rename yourself?) or whatever he is going by now (and other rap artists that use samples), asked for permission. 'member when puffy comb dad sean used cashmere and he did it on snl and jimmy page played guitar for it. what the fuck?
