Two more 70's Canadian bands I just remembered. Both of these bands had lots of hits in Canada and some hits in the U.S.

- Trooper - their big hit was Raise A Little Hell
- Prism - One of their hits was Take Me To The Kaptin

Good call, I love the Ramones. The movie "Rock and roll high school" featuring their music is a cult classic.

We forgot some good southern rock bands...Lynrd Skynrd, Marshall Tucker, Molly Hatchett, The Allman Brothers...I'm sure there are more, just can't think right now...

Remember Nick Gilder (Hot Child In The City, You Really Rock Me, Roxy Roller with Sweeney Todd, and many more)? He has also written lots of hits for other people like The Warrior for Patty Smyth & Scandal.

Saga - "On the loose" cool song. Klaatu was Beatleish. I liked them. April Wine - "Could have been a lady" was the song I remember first by them. You got me on the rest of them though, I hadn't heard of those groups.

I remember Nick Gilder. He wrote "Body talk" that KIX did back in the late 70's.

Do you remember a guy by the name of Lee Michaels, a drummer, who had a hit with the song "Do you know what I mean?" I saw him do it on Bandstand. Which reminds me....if you want to remember or see alot of cool footage of groups from that era, check out tapes of "Don Kirshner's rock concert" and "The Midnight Special" TV show. Alot of the bands mentioned on here played live on those shows. Really cool old footage. I spent many a Friday night watching those shows. Saturday nights were reserved for "Chiller Theatre" with Chilly Billy Cardille. WIIC channel 11, Piitsburgh. Now I'm really showing my age!

Man, you guys are bringing back memories!
The 'Midnight Special' with Wolfman Jack and 'Don Kershner's Rock Concert' was must-see TV back in the days before MTV and VH-1.

Does anyone remember a band called "Zephyr"? (I think Tommy Bolin played with them, too.)
I used to have an LP of them - the title was something like "Going to Colorado" (not sure). The album cover was great...showed an aerial view of a big city with a tiny picture in the center of Colorado mountains.
Album covers used to be great -- an so important.

That was a great tune Clint, as soon as i read the song title i could hear the chorus and was like Wow, i never knew who done that song. Chilly Billy would scare the hell outa me...heh.

I remember Sparks; I used to have their Propaganda album. They had an unusual sound, kind of like a rock band composed of elves!

I'm seeing a lot of names I remember. Doucette, Zon, Piper, Dog Soldier, Nick Gilder, Trooper, Prism...I have albums from all of those. (And I've played them all on "Chronicles" at one point or another).

A few other names that crossed my mind...Jade Warrior, Baker-Gurvitz Army, Pavlov's Dog, Stray Dog, Strapps, Spy, Nantucket, Dakota, Speedway Boulevard (former band of Jordan Rudess, future Dream Theater keyboardist), New England, Air Raid, Network, Moxy, Stillwater (the southern group that did the song about the talking guitar, "Mindbender"), Nektar, Triumvirat, TKO, Starcastle...damn, there are so many of them!

Two less-heralded progressive rock names we missed...U.K. and Strawbs!

- Stillwater - their hit was Mindbender (not the local band with the same name)
- Elf - with Ronnie james Dio before he went with Rainbow

I saw the band Sparks do a song called "Achoo" on the Midnight Special. The singer and the weird looking skinny keyboard player with the greased back hair and thin moustache were brothers.

Hey JP, remember the band Fanny from the 70's (all girls) that had a hit "Aint that peculiar" an old motown tune? Another band called Diamond Reo (weren't they from Pittsburgh?) redid it and it rocked!

There are several Bands in this thread of which a Musician/Singer in it belonged to another Band or Bands either before or after the one mentioned. Just a few I noticed: Blind Faith, Traffic, Humble Pie, Small Faces and Hot Tuna.

2nds on Wishbone Ash, UFO and Montrose (especially post-Hagar stuff). I saw Lighthouse at St. Francis in 1974. The drummer looked like Eric the Red with a silver fox hat.
