Who's voice drives you nuts?
Geddy's voice does not blow. Most people wouldn't even know what to do with a range like he has. I don't have a problem with you saying that you do not like his voice, but saying he blows is like saying Local H had talent.

Scott Stapp....not only is his voice a wretched rip off of Eddie Vedder, his stage moves and overall presence were able to catapault what would normally be a lame band into maximum lameness!

Y'all should LOVE the next album that Scott Stapp is doing, ROTFL...grimmbass wrote:Scott Stapp....not only is his voice a wretched rip off of Eddie Vedder, his stage moves and overall presence were able to catapault what would normally be a lame band into maximum lameness!

Songs inspired by "The Passion Of The Christ". Seriously.
Dood...
My tolerance for bad singing is pretty darn high. But man, you just GOTTA bash somebody! So here's some bashing:
- That guy from that Seattle band. You know. The one with the singer who sounded like a babbling homeless guy clearing his throat and whining for a cigarette simultaneously? I'll think of the band's name later.
- Alanis Morissette. I generally dig screechy psycho chicks, but not Alanis. Maybe it's the arhythmic clumsiness of her lyrics. Maybe it's because she looks like a moose. Something about her bugs me.
- Jon Anderson of Yes. Just cuz.
- Candlebox. That's the Seattle band I was thinking of three bullet points ago.
- Special honerable mention to everybody on American Idol. Not that they have bad voices or anything, but it's like they aren't even paying attention to song they are singing. No interpretation whatsoever. You could give them a song about the bubonic plague, and they'd still sing that same grinning showoff R&B-by-way-of-Broadway style.

This is opinion, just like politics. I really don't hate anyone but,
To not like Bono is sort of odd, I mean these guys have built a career out of stepping out of the box. The Joshua Tree could be one of the finest records ever made. U2 is not quite as diverse as Dream Theater but it is a different style.
Scott Stapp is making a record based on his feelings about the crucifiction of Jesus? Sounds like a good idea to me. When you are inspired you should write. Jesus is one of the all time kick ass rebels. No one in Altoona would have gone to see him either.
I think that alot of bands play it safe and do it just to make money. Anything wrong with that? Nah I guess not. But, if you are doing it to make money you might want to find something that you are passionate about and try it instead.
I like most music. I don't care for some of the crap that I perceive to be trendy. Some of the trendy bands though stick to their guns and end up with some good shit.
Rush rocks!

That reminds me...It took me months of nothing but Dream Theater to get used to James LaBrie's voice, but then I realized just how hard it was to sing like that. It was the exact same way for the singers of Rush, Journey, and Queensryche, but now all these bands are on my favorites list.
By the way, Geddy blows all right...He blows me away! I would give up a nut to play bass, sing, and tickle the ivories half as good as he did!

You may be thinking of Life of Agony's lead singer, who went on to front Ugly Kid Joe.ERiC_AiXeLsyD wrote:Really? I remember being told they were the same guy... Ha ha ha. Oops. Godsmack drives me insane...he sings out of tune and his lyrics are all just a variation of the other songs....killyourscene wrote:i agree with j micheals about the pop-pussy shit. i can't tell the difference between any of those poser bands nor do i want to. also, the guys from godsmack and nickelback. i feel myself literally getting nauseus when i hear their voices with those utterly absurd lyrics. where is mark david chapman when you need him?

Uh, I actually have like 5 different versions of Leviathan.....The one Im most familiar with has Shane Tierney on vox....I havent been able to find any tracks from "Legions of the Undead" with Barnes though, it was only a 4 song demo but, my friends say it was death metal....ToonaRockGuy wrote:Hey Punkinhead, did Chris Barnes do that when he was fronting Leviathan? Just curious, I figured you would be the best source to ask.Punkinhead wrote:That is a classic icon of death metal, Chris Barnes, before Six Feet Under...If you actually try to do that, it takes skill...ToonaRockGuy wrote:And also, no disrespect to the band, but the lead singer of Cannibal Corpse, who just jams the mic against his neck and grunts. What the hell is that??

Fantasia Barrino, this year's American Idol winner and for that matter, Macy Gray as well, those two are one in the same almost. Nails on a chalkboard and sorry to all the Rush fans but I can't listen to him sing either. AC/DC gets old after a while as well. And good call on the Celine Dion, if you are going to make millions in America, please learn to sing without your accent. Listen to the way she pronounces the word "love" in every song. I don't even think I can spell it phonetically the way she says it at all. Hard to explain.

Again, it is alright to say that you do not like him, or can't stand him, but the man does have talent that needs to be recognized.

I really haven't been watching this thread, but it is interesting now to read it all. It is amazing how many different opinions we all have.
I think this is a cool thread!
Personally, I could listen to Rush all day long (and I have on many occasions) especially the older stuff. And then there are some artists mentioned on here that actually make my skin crawl when I hear them - so it is interesting how different (yet alike in other ways) we all are!

And I thought I was the only one who thought Dave Mathews was a joke - there are so so so many fans. I just never got it and thought that me and the wife were alone on that subject.
He was one of the ones that I was thinking about when talking about making my skin crawl.
