I think I'll post another "political" thread. This one will really piss most of you off.

Funny thing is this - for the longest time I really felt like something was wrong with me. So many of you on Rockpage believe different things than I do (amazingly opposite!!!)

Well, on a similar forum for my main hobby (not music), they have a section devoted entirely to politics. This forum has over 30,000 members from all over the world (although most are from the USA) and I don't care what time of day I log on - there are alwasy several hundred people "online".

Anyway - I feel better because most people on that forum feel the same way that I do. Oh yeah, we have a couple nuts (like the old SpellBound or BarFit). But only a few.

So, I'm going to post this message along with a link regarding Liberals being "NUTS". I will also make sure I include a disclaimer in the title.

I also want to say that even though I know I'm going to get flamed over this - I really don't care. I know that Liberals ALWAYS agree with someone who is an authority when it suites them, and ALWAYS disagrees with them when it doesn't suit them.

AND.... I really think most Musicians are liberals because there is something in there right/left brain that just makes it so - and I will gladly be a conservative over being a true musician if it means I have to also be a liberal.

I hate it when people don't think exactly like I do. In fact, I'm thinking of creating a religion called bassist_25ism in which I indoctrinate people to think exactly like me. It would be a whole society of people with spikey hair, jazz dot goatees, and sunburst Carvin basses. We'd all sit around and feel self-important because we all thought alike, and best of all, I'd get tax-exempt status for being a religion. Hey, it makes sense, doesn't it? You know, under todays standards, you could probably certify anyone as "nuts"....there's probably a billion different definitions and criteria.

There are backwards thinkers and hypocrites in each party. Just put yourself in a politicians shoes, what is their main goal? Serve the people or themselves? Every now and then, you'll find a decent one, that's not all about themselves, a liar, or hypocrite. That's not very easy to do though.

Don't let the political season get you down... Not EVERYONE on this site is liberal.. Some are proud conservatives,,, there are even a few Libertarians as well.
I read posts on here from people who I have mucho respect for in the real world that make my eyes bleed and sometimes I feel compelled to reply.
Midway thru typing my post, I decide to just abandon the process because nothing will ever come of these arguments.
Noone will change their views because of an argument on a forum.

I just thought this was ironic, considering something Urbs posted towards me a few years ago.

I don't condone abuse - but I do believe that there is much more to maintaining discipline than a bunch of psycho-bullshit.

So it's "psycho-bullshit" when it doesn't suit Tom's agenda, but it's real psychological research when it does.

As someone who's trained in real psychology, I had a laugh at the link - just more "pop psychology" based on deductive reasoning perpetuated by a pyschiatrist looking to make a buck and push an agenda. It will fit nicely among the literature of Dr. Phil, John Gray, and Dr. Laura.

This is a great post. My 17 year old son in conversation said to me that the "American" system is inherently flawed. I asked why and he said that the assumption that all humans are created equal is preposterous. He also went on to say "If I had to play football all day I would not do very well". I thought about this and realized that he is right. People are not all created equal.

Posts like this prove that point beyond a shadow of a doubt. The problem is that it really does not matter. Because someone is different then you does not lessen their beliefs. because someone has an IQ over 50 does not make them any better then the person who posted this. We have so many different viewpoints that very few people see eye to eye on everything.

I believe that the two party system is almost wholly responsible for this division in the American people. As long as we are divided we are conquered. But the funny thing is that most of you know that. Weather you are a liberal nutjob or a Right wing masochist you understand this as an inherent truth.

So here we are divided. We could stand together and be so much stronger. In our division we defy the founding Fathers and make a mockery of our country. Of America...

We better get our act together and start working together or we are royally fucked!

I agree with pretty much everything you said. I'd also like to add that pundits do not help the matter as they simply spew their slanted view of reality to people with huge confirmation biases. General social psychological wisdom states that we as people usually associate with those who are similar to ourselves. As of late, I've taken a social constructionist view on things, and I've come to the conclusion that reaching any type of objectively agreeable notion of reality among diverse people is a pipedream at best. That's why I think that having policy makers who have not "paid their dues (to quote Songsmith )," are not always the best people to be making decisions considering this nation's working class. We saw how ivory tower thinktanks failed on welfare reform during the Clinton idea because they thought that simply working would "empower those in poverty." But I digress.

I also agree with Dirty in that anyone who completely tows a party line or political philosophy is an idiot. As of late, I'd describe myself as an angry moderate. Hey Kent, what was that John Stewart quote? "The problem is that moderates aren't marching in the streets, screaming 'Let's be reasonable!'"
