Velvet Revolver fires Weiland
Velvet Revolver fires Weiland
This just in from my radio prep service:
Velvet Revolver have just announced that the band will continue on without singer Scott Weiland. A statement released by Slash reads, "This band is all about its fans and its music, and Scott Weiland isn't 100 percent committed to either. Among other things, his increasingly erratic on-stage behavior and personal problems have forced us to move on." The band's management has confirmed the story with us. Velvet Revolver's last scheduled show is tonight in Amsterdam. --Doug Leibowitz

Perhaps Velvet Revolver will disband. Slash, Matt, and Duff will reunite with Axl., Izzy, and Dizzy, and Chinese Democracy will actually come out and be bigger than Appetite... and Use Your Illusion combined.
And then we'll all come down from cheesing and realize that Axl. is too much of a primadonna bitch to let that actually happen.

Libertad was a fuckin nightmare anyway. the first VR album was great, and then they really shit the bed on their "sophomore" album. I did read an article on Ultimate Guitar that says that STP may be reuniting, which i think would be awesome. Now if Eddie vedder would get rid of the beard and put some Doc Martens on, we would have a real grunge reunion. (Of course, then Layne Staley and Kurt Cobain would have to come back from the dead...)
This really doesn't surprise me. Granted, I think Velvet Revolver as a "Supergroup" ended up better than several others (Audioslave was a lot worse than it could've been if you ask me)... But then I figured Weiland wouldn't be able to keep himself together for more than a few months, let alone go this long. Oh well. Gotta wonder who's gonna be the next Velvet Revolver frontman
Oh... And damnit Paul, didn't I tell you to stop cheesing?

I didn't even know they were still a band.
Seriously though, Grunge revival is the next thing. It may be a couple years off yet for Altoona.
Tonight at 30 something: "Flannel Force One"

weiland wasn't that bad of a singer.moxham123 wrote:I can see it now. Scott Stapp, new lead singer for Velvet Revolver. They might as well replace one prima donna named Scott with another one and keep the tension going in the band.
stapp is just a douche bag...i wish 311 would've killed him a few years back in that hotel fight.

Scott Weiland is one of my favorite singers. I try to look past the fact that he is a complete idiot at times (i mean, come on, fucking up being in a band with SLASH!) but i do appreciate the music that he has created with STP and the first VR album. STP is one of my major influences, from writing style down to vocals.Asundor wrote:I THINK SCOTT WEILAND IS A GREAT VOCALIST. IT'S JUST A DAMN SHAME THESE PEOPLE GET MIXED UP IN THE WRONG SHIT. IT HAPPENS TO THE BEST OF THEM.
Stapp has been out of the news for the last few months because brittney spears took his spot as dysfunctional pop star. But im sure that he will go out on tour again with his new band soon and find a way to make a complete moron out of himself.
I would laugh my ass off if Stapp took over vocals for velvet revolver, but i dont think that will happen, he has a band right now that is recording and going on tour soon.

The day this happens is the day they see me 6 ft. in a hole. I seriously don't think a grunge revival is going to happen. Who would spearhead it nationally? STP is not going to last very long when they reunite for the same reason Weiland is no longer part of VR. It isn't supposed to be a long-term reunion anyway. Layne and Kurt are dead. And Vedder has said time and again in interviews that he never wanted to be a mainstream band when they got big with the Ten album. If that's the case, he should be in heaven now. Besides, grunge never really fell out of favor to the mainstream public mainly because it wasn't really around too long. What was grunge in the 90's quickly became pop music. It's a little different with the 80's stuff because when grunge hit, that style fell way out of favor, which makes it more of a revival now.

They may have shown Kurt, but Kurt brought it to the mainstream.

That may be so, but who got the credit? If we're talking a revival of grunge in the underground scene, then I'd agree it will happen, but I'm assuming people mean mainstream, in which case, I can't see Mudhoney or Dinosaur Jr. really doing it. I'm sure the success they enjoy is fine with them, no matter what level it's on. I can't tell you how many times I've read various print interviews in the 90's from these same people we're mentioning that state they are not interested in being superstars. Kurt and Eddie both said it at the height of their popularity. I'd think their view is shared by the others in the genre too.

I think a revival is never that strong. Poison and Motley Crue ain't selling like they used too either. And you can bet if STP gets back together, A drug problem isn't gonna stop the fans from going to a show. Either way, I don't think it's gonna be some huge thing. It's just natural progression of things. I wouldn't get my spandex in a bunch about it.
