Organizing thoughts.

Times :

nightcraawler_steve : Sunday after 1:00 or Mon-Wed evening
homerski : free on Sundays but likes to rest on Sundays
Hurricane : Sundays
ToonaRockGuy : Tuesdays or Wednesdays (evenings I'm guessing)
randydrummer : preferably Sunday

I will suggest a Sunday for our next get together. I will list a couple dates in an EDITED POST in the opening of this thread. I will suggest a 2:00 pm start time.

Then we can discuss when we want to do the next one. If Ford's is available on a Tuesday or a Wednesday, our following one will be on one of those days. Perhaps we can alternate between Sundays and a weeknight.

SUGGESTIONS

Let's bring our drum pads. It can be fun to work together on pads. We've done this a many "drum Nights". But having a kit there would be good too.

I'd love to go see the "jazz brunch". The drum night guys have done several car pools to Dale's and clinics in Harrisburg. Most of us would be up for that.

nightcrawler_steve : Other places. I'm sure that could be arranged. We usually went to some one's house (accept when we had access to Tyrone High School for awhile).

This all sounds like a ton of fun!

I wont be able to make the one in April, so count me out for that one. I dont have a practice pad either. I cut small pieces of soft rubber tubbing and place them over the tip of my sticks (insert condom jokes here) so I can beat on anything without causing damage and its quiet. Works great and you dont have to lug a pad around. Oh and they cost pennies

Any trip to Dales is a good time.

Honestly, I thought it might have been a sound module that triggered pad samples such as strings or synth. Sorry for being dumb. Still don't know WTF it is, and it looks like I'm going to have to ask my girlfriend what it might be. Jeez.

This is what one looks like, although they come in different shapes and sizes. It's a gum-rubber pad on plastic or wood that allows for the stick to rebound like a drum being hit, but with no noise.

When I taught lessons in VA Beach, the drum shop had t-shirts made that had a drawing on the back of the shirt: The pic was of a batter side bass drum with pedal and the words "kick me". I still have one of the shirts if we're interested in copying the idea. I'll bring it to the meeting. The 13th works for me. I have a couple pads I can bring.

If you're new to drumming or if you've been playing 20+ years - either way - you'll have a good time.

Besides the guys who posted, I've talked to a couple of other guys who are coming on Sunday.

Bring any DVDs if you like. I can bring a portable player.

Bring a drum pad and an extra one if you have it.

We can try some things for sure. Although both Rob and Randy Sciarollo play both trad and match, but usually use matched for rock. Same with Shawn. But we can mess with it. Just don't watch Brulia , he plays backwards (left handed) . I tease him all the time about that.

The only thing I don't like about it is it's awkward for crashes sometimes for me.

I've been playing trad for my entire career and I've worked with people that wanted to learn it. I've found that if they set one cymbal up on their left, angled the way they need it for those left hand crashes, it gives them an option until they get used to getting around their kit. Eventually, all of my students have been able to adjust. But, I've found myself playing mostly matched for rock anyway. I'm looking forward to getting together. Should be a cool time.
