Wal-Mart is the devil incarnate! Makes me feel a little better about refusing to spend a penny of my (severely limited) disposable income there.
Legally, the family is hosed. Which sucks dogs bollocks. There is often a huge difference between the law and justice. This is a prime example. Really sad situation. MAN! I hope he wins the Power Ball. He and his remaining family deserve some good fortune.

Business
Business as usual in America. I don't know why anyone would blame Walmart for this, they are clearly within their rights and in fairness to all employees the policy is the policy. In America the value is placed on accumulation of physical objects. What can you expect? They have played the game so well that they have everyone beat. When you win it pisses people off. When you win, sometimes someone gets hurt. When the game is to be the best and make the most money... well, you get the picture.
That being said here is a perfect example of one of the main problems with the American system as it exists today. You can't change the rules in the middle, so they are what they are. We have let lawyers and politicians and business men define how we live. Even to the detriment of our constitution and the Declaration of Independence. We have so many rules and so much bullshit that a person or a family does not matter to America anymore.
But, for better or for worse here we are. We have Walmart fucking anyone and everyone for a buck and We have a guy named "DirtySanchez" organizing a benefit for a young kid who needs help. We have people on this very page that post stupid irrelevant and sometimes distasteful shit all the time. Some of them get kicked off. Yet we exalt freedom of speech and FREEDOM above all. As long as it does not make us uncomfortable...
We live in a land where anything can happen. Good people get fucked over every minute of every day. Bad people get rich. Status quo, mission accomplished, stay the course.
Don't shop at Walmart, support the truckers strike, bitch about Keith getting kicked off again, send money to Chance, have some fucking beans, whatever.... WTF?
Guess what! The best you can do is right here, right now! I see people everyday helping each other. I see people caring, I can't change Walmart but we can try to help Chance and from there, who knows? Don't like the way things are? Make a change....

McCain was never a lawyer. He has a B.S. from the U.S. Naval Academy and he did some graduate work in the early 70s (while recovering from 'Nam), but I don't think he got a graduate degree.byndrsn wrote:That - in my very honest opinion - is the more true than anything.lonewolf wrote:Lawyers suck.

I apologize!!! I just went on his web-site and you are right - there is nothing there about him going to law school. I don't know where I thought I heard (or read) this information.lonewolf wrote:McCain was never a lawyer. I still think Lawyers are at the core root of most of the problems in this country - I'll just "refrain from saying McCain"!!!!!
Thanks for correcting me!!!

You're welcome Urbs, but there is no need to apologize. There is a lot of disinformation out there...mostly from lawyers. You are dead on about them being at the root of most problems. Unfortunately, they pretty much run government and they are careful to write laws and make policy that is ultimately to the advantage of everyone in their profession and to the detriment of just about everybody else.byndrsn wrote:I apologize!!! So then
So wait a moment I think this could be a defining moment.
Is there anyone out there that does not think that lawyers suck?
This could be one more thing that we all agree on!
Now if I could just get Jeff to vote for Obamma......

It's funny that people remember the bad stuff that lawyers have done over the eons, yet they forget the good things they've done too (e.g., represented wronged workers who got the shitty end of the stick from their employers, prosecuted murderers and rapists, etc.). It's like if I said that all Catholic priests are evil people because a few of them molested altar boys.

I mean all corporate lawyers are child molesters.
I mean... all Child molesters shop at wal-mart. That's better.

Yeah...and if they would just stick to doing that, we'd all be better off.bassist_25 wrote:It's funny that people remember the bad stuff that lawyers have done over the eons, yet they forget the good things they've done too (e.g., represented wronged workers who got the shitty end of the stick from their employers, prosecuted murderers and rapists, etc.). Bad analogy, though. They figure that less than 1% Catholic priests are molesters, but probably half of lawyers cause problems for society.
For instance, in the case of this thread, I feel that that lady's lawyer really, really screwed up by:
1. Not researching Walmart's insurance agreement.
2. Not getting a lifetime's worth of income for disability as a part of the settlement.
3. Not getting damages for future long-term medical costs.
4. Not getting any punitive damages.
5. Not getting damages to recover his legal fee--don't forget, that SOB took $100K too.
We can all bitch and moan about Walmart until the end of time, but in the final analysis, it was her lawyer who caused this problem, not Walmart.

Didn't read the "Small Print". Seems there is a lot of this happening with mortgages also.
How many times do people sign something without reading and then come back to cry about it.
Everywhere you go you have to sign... The doctors, employment applications, the pharmacy, hell even Firestone makes you sign when you get your tires rotated!... It goes on and on.
I am guilty of signing without reading. And if I get into court for it well that's my own damn fault.
I feel for this woman and her family and I don't like Wally World either but people need to wise up and take account for what they do(Sign).

I think WalMart is missing the boat here. They going to get alot of bad press about this. (Although it probably wont matter.) They COULD make an exception in this case. Then CHANGE the policy. Everywhere Ive worked the rules in the policy manual, are never set in stone. Theres always that one line that says something like " all policy is at the discretion of management, and is subject to change without warning"
BUT if they did make an exception in this case, it DOESNT mean they have to do it for everyone. And they would come out smelling like a rose. I dunno. That family is getting screwed either way. Hopefully somebody somewhere will step up and help them out. How many times do you see people having 7 babies and the whole community pitching in to help out, by buying new vans, cribs, clothes, diapers etc. Maybe with the publicity, someone will.

Wal Mart....
Wal-Mart and/or there lawyers are the devil... I've said it before. I think this was discussed on here before. But anyway... There was a big write up about this somewhere and I can't remember where. They talked to a bunch of people and they actually looked at the policy. They also had a "draft" , for the lack of a better word, of the policy in this article. And it actually says the they have the "right" to recoop the $$$ if they want too. DOESN'T say that they atomatically will... Just that they have the right too.
So.... IMO, that means they didn't have to run these people into the ground, but they did. It was Wal-Marts' CEO's and there lawyers that made that decision. That few 100 G's they got out of that is a grain of sand on a beach. Compared to what they make a day.
They are playing GOD!!!!

Agreed.
Also, there is a huge difference between the woman's attorney and a corporate (Wally World's) attorney...or I should say attornies, who I would imagine followed orders on what course to take with her straight from the corporate office!

Btw, I have no idea whether G.W. is an attorney, but as President there is the issue of his countless signing statements.
