Diezel Guitar Cabinets

i tried a Diezel cab, and i was blown away by how good it sounded. it has front loaded Vintage 30s and the back was completely sealed (no screws at all). it was so tight and focused it about knocked you over at high volume. it also sounded very 3 dimensional and lush but dead quiet; no rattling or noise whatsoever even in super low tuning (alot of cabs can't handle super low end at all). they are big bucks, but would be worth a listen if ya had the $$$.

btw, they're built like a tank. oddly (at least to me) the cab is made of poplar, which i've never heard of. most cabs are birch. sounds great.

Poplar is a lightweight wood and soft. Its rather low in price compared to others.

Its also common to our neck of the woods.

Man the first time I heard those cabs I was blown away too. Greg was jammin through a Mesa Traditional cab that sounded killer then plugged in to the Diezel. WOW!!! I couldn't imagine there would have been that much difference. Of course I picked up two Mesa Recto cabs used in excellent shape for the price of one of those Diezels. Like you said Jason, if you have the bucks...

i meant odd in that no one else uses poplar. it's usually birch or plywood. you would love the way it sounded Ray. it was killer.

Poplar is pretty rare for guitar cabs. Krank and a few custom makers also use solid poplar. Peavey uses poplar plywood on some stuff, but I can't see any advantage in that unless its cheaper than pine.

I'd imagine Diezel is using solid poplar for the cab and plywood for the baffle--solid poplar is pretty light and would probably cause problems for a baffle.

you're probably right; a poplar baffle would probably rattle or collapse. i played a low tuned guitar (B flat) with a Diezel head (think a Mesa times two gain wise) reeeally loud, and the speakers never even began to break up. i have never heard a cabinet that transparent before. the cab had no "character", but not in a bad way. just a clean and really focused slate for your guitar head.

tell ya what; an ENGL Pro Cab sounds just as good if not better. same thing- big money, big sound. i got one on a trade and its sounds terrific.

I worked the Stage at the Creation Festival last year, and another amp that is expensive, but was popular among many artists was Divided By Thirteen They sounded really good! I looked them up online, .like 6000 for a Half Stack, one guy had 2 of them! Of course he has the money I am sure too!
Alot of Artists used Marshall, Mesa Boogie, and a ton of them used VOX Ac30s on stage!
I loved being there seeing all the equpiment and stuff!

i've heard that Divided by 13 amps sound great, but i've never heard one in person. same with 65 amps. at the end of the day, i bought a Diezel Einstein 100 watt head and couldn't be happier (for now lol).

i also saw a guy playing a Laboga Mr. Hector onstage recently as well. sounded pretty good from the floor; kinda had a Mesa Rectifier vibe going on.

I don't think that either one of those amps is going to make either one of us happy. They're not anywhere near high gain. They sound great, but I guarantee I'd want more from them.

gotcha. i'm not a fan of running distortion pedals in front of a head unless its strictly a boost. i always feel that the pedal steals the natural sound of the head away from it and turns the head into more of a preamp.
