What is it with bands from Canada..
having fantabulous musicians/great production on their albums?
Artists with honorable mention:
Devin Townsend Band
Strapping Young Lad
Cryptopsy(they never really had great production besides Once Was Not, but they're fantastic musicians)
Into Eternity
Rush
3 Inches of Blood
and many more I'm sure I'm forgetting at the moment.
Is it something in the water? If so, where can I get this water??

I dont think Canadian produced albums sound any better than albums produced anywhere else.

I think that we only hear the best of what canada has to offer.Team Transylvania wrote:I dont think Canadian produced albums sound any better than albums produced anywhere else.
Unlike the American/European stuff which some is just as good or better, but some sounds like it was recorded in a basement with radio shack equipment.
Adam D. From Killswitch Engage is an awesome producer here in the states.

Well another thing is a lot of Canadian bands first albums on indie labels sound a lot better than American or European. I've never really heard a band from Canada with bad production. I've heard tons of Scandinavian black metal sound absolutely terrible. Emperor's "Wrath of the tyrants." Thats just one. Hell, Lamb of God's New American Gospel sounds terrible to the naked ear, but I think the production was perfect for their style then.DirtySanchez wrote:I think that we only hear the best of what canada has to offer.Team Transylvania wrote:I dont think Canadian produced albums sound any better than albums produced anywhere else.

Most bands besides Canadian ones, usually don't have the best quality on their debut-indie label albums. I know I probably should've changed my first post because in retrospect, I really wasn't arguing that all Canadian bands have better production than any other country. What my point really is, is that majority of their debut albums are better quality, and only recently has this argument been terminated. Everybody has pro-tools now. Anyone can make crap sound pretty good.

It seems like there is less of an emphasis on refining the stage show with the "signed" acts these days. I'm with Sanchez ... it pisses me off to see a band that's "made it" that can't play their own effing songs, let alone their instruments.DirtySanchez wrote:AGREED!Lifer wrote: Anyone can make crap sound pretty good.
Nothing I hate more than seeing/hearing a band absolutely suck live in comparison to their studio work.
Case in point (and I'm not a fan of the band) but I saw Fallout Boy on some beach party thing on MTV a few years ago, back when that "Sugar, I'm Goin' Down" was out and hot. Those guys couldn't even begin to explain or demonstrate how to play a guitar. It was ridiculous.
I attribute this to not touring enough prior to getting signed. Bands get a record deal and they're expected to tour to promote the album, and they don't know how to play their instruments or perform in front of people. Sad.

fallout boy had a pretty substantial amount of time logged in to touring before they even started to get big. they came through blair county at least 2 times prior to their success. i will say they are somewhat talented. it's hard to tell what their deal was on the beach party performance (which i didn't see) but they always seem to deliver as far as playing. if the flaming gets out of hand on this...i'm banning myself from RP

Honestly, that was the only "live" performance from them that I've seen and it was bad. Maybe they were on crack or something that day, I dunno, but you get the gist of what I'm saying. Bands need to learn to play, then get on stage.DrumAndDestroy wrote:i cannot believe i am about to say this...BadDazeRob wrote:It seems like there is less of an emphasis on refining the stage show with the "signed" acts these days.
