Henrik was always a cool guy, I remember Pipe Down ( my old band) Opening for his side project Burning Orange at City Limits! They were freaking amazing!
Then on My 23rd Birthday at Club Met in Harrisburg, Henrik pulled me up on stage, and wished me a Happy Birthday, then tilted my head back, and poured Jack Daniels down it! Before that, he gave me and my friends free beer in the dressing room! Yeah, I dont remember much else about that night! Just that I had a great time thanks to Henrik!
Today, I would pass out from the smell of JD! Ha! I'm Old!
It would have been the Chewing on the Bit Tour, where the guys from Childs Play Backed Henrik up! He pulled me up right before they did "This Way"
My Bday is May 20, so it would have been around then! I am thinking around 92! Great Time!
Thin Ice opened them once. The bassist, Jack Pyers, whom I knew from his days in Harpo, set about hitting on my wife. While I was standing next to her. I told him to chill out, but that made him even worse, so I had to take a little walk with him and explain a few things about how they'd never find his body and such, and how that could be a bad situation for him and his next of kin.
He suddenly understood. I'm far from being a badass, but jealous husbands are capable of literally anything. He went away, and has never attempted to approach me or my wife again.
I always kinda liked Dirty Looks' music, but I never cared for Henrik. Too "Bon Scott" for me, and the sticking-the-tongue-out-while-singing thing makes it hard for me to take him seriously. I know some of you guys are fans, but that's my opinion.------->JMS
Years ago, when Dirty Looks was just emerging in the 80's and I was working on the AM side of the radio dial, we set up to do an interview with Jack Pyers for WFBG's "All Night Album Rock." Jack was to drive in to Altoona in early evening (I think Dirty Looks was playing the Scorpion in State College later that night) and I was to record the interview with him.
I had only seen Jack once previously, back in the Harpo days, when they played at the Scorpion. And I was far back from the stage that night, and didn't get to see him up close. (That show was pre-Pennsylvania Musician for me, so I wasn't up front and taking pictures.) So I really didn't know what he looked like, other than from afar.
Anyway, the night of the interview arrived, and "Jack" shows up to do the interview. The interview went very well, and "Jack" was very talkative and conversational. A few days after the interview, though, I finally saw an actual picture of Dirty Looks, and realized that it wasn't Jack who showed up to do the interview, but Henrik! And he never let on that he wasn't Jack!
I guess admittedly, at that point in time, I didn't know "Jack" about Dirty Looks!
