The problem with most of the local media around here is that if you don't pay to advertise with them, they will not put out any good story. I love doing community service stuff. We are barely getting by sometimes and the only way I can basically do community service is to hold an event as I don't have the money to give away. With each event, I send in press releases. I've been told by some people who work for some of the media that my press releases are very well written and ready to go. However, since the event is at a business and not a community service venue, they can't do anything with it due to the higher powers. When our business makes it big and we are bringing in the money, (keep saying it and it will happen right?) I will remember those who help and those who don't.

As JP calls them, The Dime, has refused to do ticket give-aways for us but they will do it for the Bryce Jordan Center. Go figure.

PLCB violations are public record. I think that its dirty to put out something that is over a year old. 1260 AM often puts in their news current PLCB violations from all over the state. Why did they feel they had to reach back into history?

LOL

Shouldn't have posted that! I went on, saw a response I had to argue, and then ended up writing a signature bassist_25 novel.

Everyone has a right to their opinion about Claudio, even if you've only ever given the place one chance, drew 15 people and felt you were shafted on money. Success in Altoona is far from automatic — it takes work and persistence to become established and accepted. As Bobby said, Claudio's a businessman first and if you do the work to make him money (which involves putting in the time), you too will make money in a venue that quite frankly kicks ass and offers the services of quite possibly the best sound man in Pennsylvania for the evening at no charge.

Here's a guy who has taken major steps to rid his establishment of the riff-raff that was earning him 6 o'clock news status. Now, the Dime is just digging for stuff to put this man's business back in the negative spotlight.

Having said that, the whole point of this thread is, everyone at one time or another on this site has vented about a lack of good live music venues in the region, or about the PLBC or the media trying to put the screws to what we all do. Here is an example of that very thing. How about instead of using this as an opportunity to take pot shots at Claudio, we unite and maybe make a little noise about unfair targeting by the media that could result in one less venue for live music. I've already started the noise on www.WeAreCentralPA.com. I urge others to gravitate to that site and bump that thread. This is about more than just Claudio.

I was in aldo's friday night when the PLCB sent a minor in to try to buy beer. It was funny because the official "witness" was sitting beside me. When Rich threw the girl's license back at her and told her she could leave, the actual agent came in and told Rich that he didn't have to be so rude to the girl. Then he left, and shortly after the witness got up and left. Why is this not entrapment?

Ultimately, it is indeed the establishment's responsibility to properly train the employees to screen customers but these PLCB set ups make it hard, especially if it's a busy night and they're using an illegal ID to try to get served. Personally, I think there are more productive ways the PLCB could spend their time, like by policing actual "nuisance bars" instead of trying to create new ones with the help of the television and print media.

That's hysterical. Since when has PLCB been the authority on politeness? They make it a point to harrass bars to make money. Besides, isn't it illegal to have a fake ID? Oh wait, I forgot. Because it's a government agency using an illegal item, it's alright.

I'm calling "10" out on their board now ... let's see if any company folk have the nuts to respond.

My guess is a big, fat "no."

If you care about the availability of live music venues in general, do us all a favor and pile on at www.WeAreCentralPA.com. This is a great opportunity for our community to make some noise loud enough for the rest of the citizenry to hear.

I'm really reluctant to throw my 2 cents in here because one, its just a different view point and Ill set myself up to be flamed and two, because I care a great deal for the local music scene.

I think its great you all are being vocal about your displeasure of how channel 10 is reporting this story and calling them out for it on a messageboard for this areas "general public".

Now, keyword here being "general public". Do you really want the general public coming over here to rockpage (now that there has been a link to it posted on wearecentralpa) to read some of the rediculous crap that gets posted on this board. Credibility is gone....caput....at the very least, greatly diminished.

The "general public" already thinks most musicians are drug-addicted, sex-crazed, dim-witted malcontents who really have nothing of importance to offer society as it is other than to "play that loud, obnoxious music". Or whatever, you get my drift.

I just hope you guys dont really expect to be taken seriously now if they take a peak around this little "musicians" forum we call home. Personally, its embarrassing to be lumped in with the "general publics" mindset of what a musician is. I encounter this all the time when I tell someone I just meet that I am also a "musician" and I see that look on their face.

Does it make you think about some of the things you and I post on here sometimes? It should when you want to be taken seriously during a serious time. You cant have it both ways.

This is really hard to articulate what Im trying to say. Its frustrating because I know there a lot of really good people on this board. But man Im tellin ya, if I came here for the first time and read even a small percentage of the posts here.....man oh man.

We are always in the spotlight...its the nature of our business.

So after going over to that other mesage board and being kinda proud some folks took a stand, and spoke politely I might add, only to see a link back to RP. My heart actually sank a little bit.

I know.....whaaaaaaaaa. Flame away. I can take it.

I know what you're getting at, steve. i agree it's great to voice an opinion about it. i did just that.

on the other hand...i don't think doing this will change anyones opinion of us here at RP. that's fine by me and i'm sure it's fine with everyone else here too.

oh and for the sake of the flame you wanted (and to perpetuate RP's image)....you are a midget rapist who bobs for dingleberries on a nightly basis while watching 10 news at 11

Actually Steve I thought the same thing when I saw the link.

I was like "yeah that'll help everybody take us seriously".

Just overlook the posts about anal sex and drugs.

Most of us know we're joking, but to the general public we prolly look like the Devils Rejects with typing abilities.

Personally though, I sing in a Metal band, swear like a sailor and write songs about not conforming.
I really don't care how people perceive me. The local media especially.

Like JP Said, there's a benefit for a kid with cancer March 29th @ The Cantina. (A biker Bar) The music will be provided by Local punk, metal, and rockabilly acts.(Roughnecks, greasers, and riffraff) Let them think what they wish. I know better.

I am not embarrassed because I don't take life/the internet as serious as someone on a news channel messageboard.

I guess I need to take this personally since I believe I was the only person on here to bash Claudia.

I wasn't even going to respond, but you guys know how I am....

First off Rob, I agree about the Great Sound Man - (I wish I could remember his name right now - but for the moment it is just beyond reach), he was fantastic. The night we played there he (the sound man)told us that it was the best Friday night they had had in a while. Cool.

We didn't pack the place, but since we were playing for the door, we had a pretty good idea of what our take would be. It wasn't even close!!!! I might be a long haired drunken biker, but one thing I am very good at - MATH. I can count, I can multiply and I can tell you that we got about 20-30% of what was taken in at the door.

As far as putting in time and being accepted - I can agree with what you are saying, and you guys and the Hurricanes (and others) have done that and I'm not trying to take anything away from you for that - because I truly commend you for it. At the same time, it is always those bands who stick up for these guys like Claudio. Of course you guys don't have any problem with him - because he would never bone Bad Daze or Felix and the Canes - Hell No!! But, he has no problem giving it to anyone who isn't quite up those standards yet - and this is why I said that maybe what goes around comes around.

Again, I really shouldn't have responded to your post Rob because it isn't what this thread was all about, but your post really irritated me.

And Steve.... You hit the nail on the head!!!
