The new film by Michael Moore. It's a good look at the Bush administration and the lies surrounding the war in Iraq, the Bin-Laden family and Bush's close ties to them.

A little backstory from CNN.com:
In May 2004, Michael Moore announced that Disney (which owns Miramax, the film's distributor) had officially prohibited Miramax from releasing the film and expressed his frustration that the film was being stifled. Disney said that the decision had been made a year earlier in May 2003 when it told Miramax that it would not be willing to distribute the film. Disney chief executive, Michael Eisner, said that Moore was announcing it at that time to create publicity for the film's screening at the Cannes Film Festival. Moore claimed that Eisner had expressed concern that the film might jeopardize tax breaks granted to Disney for its theme park, hotels, and other ventures in Florida, where Jeb Bush, President George W. Bush's brother, is governor.

A few tidbits about the electoral college:

3 presidents were elected by the electoral college without winning the popular vote:

George Bush
R.B. Hayes

Here's a real kicker. In 1824 Andrew Jackson won the popular vote AND the electoral college over John Q. Adams & two others, but the election was turned over to the House of Representatives, where it was decided that John Q. Adams would be president.

There's something that most people cannot or will not understand:

THE UNITED STATES IS NOT A DEMOCRACY. IT IS A REPUBLIC.

Bottom line of 2000 is that the electoral college wins out. Funny thing is that if they would have recounted the Florida votes by Gore's standard, Bush would have won and if they would have recounted them by Bush's standard, Gore would have won.

It's a good movie that I hope raises people eyebrows about what the Bush administration is actually doing. My favorite part of the snippet is the one about flying bin laden family members out of the country during the general ban on aviation. When you read it just that way, as spinned by Mr. Moore, its enough to make your blood boil. When you look at the facts, it is much more reasonable.

1. osama bin laden was disowned from the bin laden family in 1991
2. osama bin laden was stripped of his Saudi citizenship in 1994
3. no members of the bin laden family were flown out of the country during the general aviation ban.
4. During the ban, bin laden family members and other Saudis were flown to points inside the U.S. with F.B.I. approval when it became apparent that their lives were at risk from reprisals.
5. They did not leave the country until the ban was lifted.

OK, I don't have much appreciation for oil-filthy-rich saudi royalty or government types, but the fact is, they are not terrorists, the bin laden FAMILY is not our enemy and had nothing to do with 9/11. What I DO appreciate is that these people would be targets for Americans hell bent for revenge. The Saudi government advised these people to get out of the U.S. and we cooperated.
