BEAT ME!!!

Former aide accused of beating Pa. Alzheimer’s patient

NORRISTOWN, Pa. (AP) — A former patient aide at an assisted living facility in King of Prussia is headed to trial in Montgomery County on charges that she beat an Alzheimer’s patient with a belt buckle.

Prosecutors say a staffer at Arden Court found bruises and scratches all over the 87-year-old resident’s body. The former aide, 29-year-old Henrietta Sprual of Upper Darby, told them the man was “out of control” and used the buckle to strike himself.

Prosecutor Bradford Richman says a forensic pathologist looked at the injuries and concluded that they were “clearly not self-inflicted.” Richman says the man was struck at least six or eight times.

Sprual is free on bail with her next court date set for late April.
Richman says Arden Court did everything right in reporting the incident.

My mother used to whip out the flyswatter ... those effers sting.

Never got the belt buckle but know people who did. What was your parents' "weapon of choice?"

That's what she said.

My parents usually guilted me into feeling bad. I was a pretty good kid. As a result, I don't hate my parents.

My Dad's bare hand. Only happened twice that I remember. After the 2nd time I learned not to piss him off. (LEARNED, imagine that)

My kids also got a smack on the ass when they needed it, and maybe got 3 each growing up. So far I've got 2 Penn State grads and a straight A 12 year old. Although I do remember one time that I heard my 2 older kids laughing to each other that my slap on their asses didn't hurt anymore, so I retrieved a spatula from the kitchen.

Guilt usually makes me make better decisions. It's also my first weapon of choice when dealing with my kids.

I'm pretty sure my kids still love me too!

my dad's choice of punishment was his leather belt. It took me one time to learn from that. If that was done today to think what may have happened to him. Things like that may have been extreme however I learned that you do what your told or pay the price. It made me a better person in the long run.

My mother used the spatula as well, though it was referred to as The Caketurner. To this day, I'd like to have a band called, "The Caketurners."

My dad wasn't what you'd call a nice guy, his corrective measures consisted of whatever he could quickly grab and whale on you with. He'd rage, which is not a cool frame of mind when kids need discipline. He could beat you within an inch of your life and never leave a mark... or leave a mark you'd never forget.

I still support a good swat on the ass, though. I don't think it teaches violence at all, anymore than touching an electrical socket teaches kids to electrocute people on purpose. A whoopin' teaches you that there are repercussions for doing wrong, and not just rewards for doing right. Lax child-rearing can easily be blame for SO many of society's problems.--->JMS

My Dad Swatted my little brothers ass once.

Never touched my sister, and beat my ass every chance he got, it seemed. Way too many to count, that's for sure. I was the oldest. I was expected to set the example or have one made of me, I guess?

I deserved most, and definitely learned from each experience.
It still didn't stop me from testing my boundries though.

I have no clue what any of this has to do with abusing sick, elderly people, but thanks for listening.

My mother's "cake turner" at our house was known as "the pot stick".

I got my ass beat more times by my kindergarten teacher and grade school principal than I ever did by my parents. Go figure.

"Cake turner" implies that the device is put up your ass rather than smacked upon your ass.

...or at least that's the semantic vibe I get from the name.

Haha... when I was in kindergarten a mohawk was known as a "Don Eagle" and was socially acceptable. Damn I'm old.

Obedience-administering tools at my house were the belt from my father (he never actually struck me with it, but would bring it down damn close so it sent the message). From my mom it was the good 'ol hand swat on the rear end, which was usually enough to send the intended message.

Like Ron said, I probably received more punishment at school than at home. The wooden paddle was the popular mode for correcting behavior in elementary and junior high school, and even at Altoona Vo-Tech, my electronics instructor (and the neighboring refrigeration instructor) both used the paddle pretty frequently. I only ever got it once at Vo-Tech, and that was just a "recreational" swat that everybody in the class got on the last day of my junior year, just so we all could say we got it once. (I'd like to see a teacher try that stunt nowadays!)

The most unique mode of punishment I remember witnessing in school was in phys ed class at Logan Junior High (now Logan Elementary). The phys ed instructor, the late Mr. White (former owner of Greenwood Golf, where the empty Burgi's now sits) used to do the "paddle machine," where the rest of the class would line up single file and spread their legs apart, and the accused would then be forced to crawl on hands and knees down through the tunnel of spread legs, with each student delivering the hand spank as he crawled along. If the spanking didn't do the damage, the skinned knees at the end of the run did!

The hand swat was it, aside from the yelling. Go figure. Didn't happen often. It must not've happened often enough, look at me now!

Now my aunt... She rarely had to correct anyone. We all had respect for her. Not just from this, but you know. Anyway though, when you drove her far enough, she'd actually pull whomever's pants down and whip them. Just bare-handed. No special tools or anything. Obviously, this was indoors, as even those days, it would've been something

She wasn't hard-handed at all... It was merely the idea of embarassment along with the idea of discipline that made it last in my and my sibs' minds. To paint a better picture though, she was good to us anyway, so we all had a high respect for her

I got the belt from my Dad. And got it good. My Gram was quick with the handle of butcher knife. She wasn't even five feet tall, but she could wield that knife handle like Bruce Lee.

The wooden spoon was the first choice of my mothers and secondly dads belt. The belt she def. meant I was in some shit. LOL However, now as an adult I believe that it was a good form of punishment. I learned my lesson well and never wanted to repeat the bad thing that I did that earned me the spanking. I firmly believe that if more parents would give their kids a spanking that more kids would respect their parents and know who holds the authority of the house. And yeah I know... most kids now a days always say that they'll run and tell someone that their getting abused but ya know what I did that once with my mom and her response was go ahead and see how well your treated somewhere else. As a kid, thinking that through......I was convinced that things could be a hell of alot worse elsewhere than getting my butt cracked for something that I deserved it for.

Only problem is, most kids nowadays are so out of it that they don't have that foresight. Most people nowadays have a selfish streak, and don't see that far into it. "Oh, my parents aren't allowed to spank me". Then they're shipped into foster care "Oh shit, it sucks here! Maybe I shouldn't've done that..."
