If you were out somewhere and had to hang a few hours where a cover band was playing, what 2 songs (or just groups) would you enjoy hearing covered if it was done well.

For me it would be lesser known Led Zeppelin like "The Ocean" or Rush "Working Man".

I love it when cover bands play stuff that is lesser known, but still recognizable. The same old crap gets old quick.

My choices would be: Any Ramones song that isn't "I wanna be sedated"

If it were acoustic however, I'd say: any Old Hank, or something I can just sing and drink myself stupid to.

"Prime Mover" by Zodiac Mindwarp And The Love Reaction

Any song by Mother Love Bone, provided the singer could pull off a stone-cold Andy Wood voice.

Honorable Mention:

"Soul With A Capital S" - Tower Of Power
"Christmas Eve In Sarajevo" - Trans-Siberian Orchestra
"2112" - Rush
"Six Degrees Of Inner Turbulence" - Dream Theater
"War" - Meshuggah
Dood...

I love those guys. I listened to the album "Let It Go" for like two months straight. Monty Colvin is an AMAZING songwriter. The only band I like as much is King's X, which is my all-time favorite band. I'd like to cover just about any King's X song.

Used to do the KX tune Moanjam with my buddy, guitarist extraordinaire, Cozmo - who nailed the guitar part in that song AND sang it. That gets my adrenaline going.

"I'm Gonna Be" by the Proclaimers...I know that Hello Vixen used to do this (haven't seen them in a while so I don't know if they do still) but its one of my favorite songs, plus it has a good beat and its generally kind of a fun feelgod song to get the crowd going a bit.

The soundtrack of the recent movie Across the Universe contains an interesting version of the old Beatles song I Just Saw a Face, it is done in a Bluegrass or at least 'Mauraders' style that I would like to hear them or Mama Corn try. I like that song...

An Altoona band called Legacy used to cover "Working Man" very well. It was their show-closer as I recall. I can't remember the guitarist's name, but he was really good, and Steve Shiffler was on vocals.

A couple of tunes I would love to hear covers of:
Wrathchild "Smothered Life"
World War III "Steal the Night Away"
Artful Dodger "Wayside"

Nah, I was just messing with them. They play it. (fast and loud, a bit too much, a bit too proud) Even though Rob can't remember the lyrics...

I agree that when I go hear a cover band that I prefer to hear tunes that I don't hear every band play. I have too many favorite tunes; so, I'm pretty much open. Even though my band plays many of the tunes that we have to play because people keep asking for them, we also plays lots of cover tunes that most bands don't do just because we like them and the people seem to respond very well to them. Here are just some of the different cover tunes we play:

Mr. Spaceman - The Byrds
Big 10 Inch Record - Aerosmith / Bull Mosse Jackson (original)
Miserlou - Dick Dale & The Deltones
Lucky Man - Emerson, Lake, & Palmer
Battleship Chains - Georgia Satellites
Devil Inside - INXS
Love Can Make You Happy - Mercy
Harvest Moon - Neil Young
Behind The Wall Of Sleep - The Smithereens
The Future's So Bright, I Gotta Wear Shades - Timbuk 3
Toast & Marmalade For Tea - Tin Tin
Saving Grace - Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers
Bumble Bee Rock - The Ventures
Surfrider - The Ventures
Werewolves Of London - Warren Zevon
For Your Love - The Yardbirds
She's Not There - The Zombies
