lonewolf: i own a 2 channel Dual Recto and an Engl Fireball; i think they're both pretty badass, so i'm not really in the market for another head. the guy who sold the Bogner just surprised me when he was so dissatisfied with the sound of it; he's a pretty accomplished player who's owned every head under the sun at some point. btw- i'm not anti-modeling amp- i'm just already happy with my tone for the most part. (i'll never be 100 percent happy with any guitar sound; just the way i am). i was curious to see if anyone else on here felt the same way he did. most of the locals here play thru garbage and don't want to talk guitar tone.

got to try an Uberschall at guitar center. wasn't really all that impressed; i thought the overall sound was a little stiff and not very fluid at all. also seemed kind of elusive to dial in. had nice thick saturation and bottom end though, and i could see how someone else with different taste could dig it... i don't believe it can do anything that a Mesa or Engl can't... to each his own, y'know???

I have to wonder if these amps with a gigantic bottom end are really going to sound good in a band situation. How much low end do you need if you have a bass player? Aren't some things just going to cancel out and make a bunch of mud?

IME (and here I go saying something elitist), a lot of people just don't understand the sonic properties of the guitar and think that the bad ass sound they get in their living room is going to transfer well on stage and through a professional FOH system. So, possibly guitar amp companies realize this and that's how they market their stuff.

Well Jason, as I'm sure you've heard me say, in my experience, when you get to that level of amp, you're really just moving sideways anyways. Is the dude who's trading in his Mesa for a Splawn really gaining anything? Well, probably nothing from an objective standpoint. At that level, it really does come down to personal tastes.

... and all this time I thought, "IME" stood for, "in my estimation."

you're absolutely right guys; that is what your kick drum and bass player are for. the guitar should be in the mix where the guitar belongs. more mids, less bass.... HELLALUJAH Rev25!!!

This is completely true. I used to run a lot of all age shows back in Altoona and I lost track of how many bands would come in and the guitar player would sound badass until the rest of the band kicked in and he was lost. Guitar is a midrange instrument. I had to learn that lesson myself. I used to make up for the lack of mids in my sound with pure volume. 8) I know better now. It's all about mids and volume.
