motorla's are probably the best quailty ... as long as u dont get a razor or something stupid ... because they break easily ... but as far as getting good service, and lasting a long time, iv had the best luck with the better built motorolas ... the LG.s with the music players arent bad either ... but kinda pricy

Way ... go check it out, they have Verizon, AT&T, Sprint and someone else, and each service has certain phones that are price marked "$0" with two-year renewal. They punch your shit into their computer just like at an authorized dealer but when it comes time to purchase the phone, they apparently just hand it to you and say, "thanks." And it's not a mail-in rebate or anything retarded like that.

If I'm missing a ctach here that someone knows about, please fill me in. I can only assume that Wal-Mart is getting some kind of kickback from the wireless companies for service renewals so they're eating the price of certain phone models.

Jeane has one and loves it.
See, that's where we're leaning right now and, not to start a "bash Wal-Mart" thread, but if you're up for your two-year renewal through Verizon, you can get a Chocolate at Wal-Mart for ... $0. No strings.

I asked a salesperson at an authorized Verizon dealer yesterday (Circuit City) why I can get a Chocolate for free at Wal-Mart but have to pay $187 for one at their store, you know, to give her the chance to lay down the sales pitch, and she simply said, "Wal-Mart buys phones in bulk from Verizon and can set the price wherever they want, we're an authorized dealer, so we're told what we must charge for them."

There was no, "Well, if you buy it here ... blah, blah, blah." Well, to be honest, the customer service perks would have to be pretty impressive to convince me not to get a free phone at Wal-Mart at this point.

r:>)
Seems you've figured this one out, but just to drive it home.......sure you might get the 8550 free at walmart, BUT do their people really know anything about the phones? What if your phone breaks, where do you go? Can the person at walmart teach you how to change ringtones? Download VZ navigator? Do they do phone book and picture/video transfers? Just a handful of reasons to avoid buying from walmart. Go to either a direct store or an authorized agent. Best advice though, shop around......some places will give you free accessories, others will charge you a shitload of money for a $3 case and $10 charger.

most people READ the manual with their eyes. That answers alot of those questions you have. I suggest manuals, dude.

A manual wouldn't tell you if walmart has those capabilities.
Just because the phone has the capability doesn't mean walmart provides the service or what the fee is. Most people do not read manuals either.

Especially men. We're smarter than manuals, and if we break it because of that, it was junk to begin with. Chocolates are crap. 3 month throw away phones.

Girls like the looks of them, there are much better music phones.

I read manuals cause i like to know how to use the shit i have. Instead of cuking shit up. Id rather be able to use it 100% from the get go. Everything is much better that way. if that makes me a girl, then hell yeah. girl power!

man, to be honest, i worked for a cell phone store, and there is absolutly NO difference between an authorized dealer and wal mart. i bought my razr v3xx through wal mart, and my blackjack from letstalk.com . I'll tell you what, there is no difference in phone quality. My phones are great, and they work great. I have no complaints. As far as getting the chocolate, i would reconsider that, i know about 4 or 5 people that have them, and really dislike them. The sliding mechanism breaks on them pretty easily. Im stating this just from experience and seeing what friends of mine have gone through.

I was joking to make the point that most people do not read the manual or follow directions.

Didn't people used to bring dildos back to the Duncansville library cuz they weren't working, and all they needed was a battery?

See, this was the type of sales pitch I was waiting for but never got yesterday. However, that still doesn't make up for the FREE price tag at Wal-Mart, honestly. Plus, my comrade Big Jim works for a firm that trains Wal-Mart employees in the electronics department on how this shit works so I'm thinking the tech support factor is taken care of. Of course, I could be wrong, but if I can't read the manual and figure something out or go online with a question, then I must be fuckin' stupid.

Don't really want it for music per say. Again, I just want something that isn't a piece of shit like my current phone ... and "free" helps. I kinda dig the style of them, so I guess that's the girl in me.

We heard that the "Chocolates" had lots of problems when they first came out. Then those problems were corrected. Take that for what it's worth. I have no inside info or anything. Jeane has had hers for awhile now, with no problems. I do know that it takes better pictures than my LG.

Yeah, I'd imagine you get the same tech support anywhere. It's still verizon technology. Most retail salespeople wouldn't know a sales pitch if it kicked them in the face anyways. They figure if you walk in the store you want something and don't understand it when you walk out without making a purchase.

FREE is hard to beat though. I would def. go for that.

I like pretty things too Rob.

Hey Rob just be sure the Chocolate you are getting from Walmart is the "new" chocolate. When I got my phone back in August they only had the older style and I had heard about a lot of problems. I did get the chocolate for myself for free but got a different model for Bag. I re-upped online and got both phones for free with a 2 year contract. Couldn't get 2 chocolates for free though.

Yeah, this would be the "new" Chocolate.

I guess, after reading my posts so far, that I've made up my mind. Thanks everyone for the input. You can keep discussing it if you want, though.

I switched from Nextel to Verizon this year. I have the razr v3m but i use this site http://hacktherazr.com and customized my own OS on it. Dont try this unless you know what your doing, could wind up with a dead phone. You need the usb cable too. Got rid of all the verizon crap.

Verizon

Verizon pissed me off in so many ways I can't even use their land line service at this point. I will get over it but... I like ATT and I like the Tilt and the 8525. If you are into the Internet and want a little flexibility, they can't be beat. Email, nice screen, unlockable and lots of hacks. Also great reception, bluetooth and yeah they play music ( go figure! ).

I put a 4 gig sd ram card in and filled it then I can play it on my car stereo. That way I don't have to burn CD's for anything that sucks. I don't use little headphones... cause..... they are little headphones, but I do listen to a lot of musci. This thing is easy to put your own ringtones on easy to add programs to, syncs with outlook or other mail clients and also allows up to 6 numbers per contact. The voice dialing works great on these things also!

I did have a little problem where it got hostile, I said "call home" it said "call nick", I hung up, I said "call Home" it said "call jason" I hung up. One day, everytime I said anything it said "call so and so's cell" I had to call the poor guy and say hey bud my phone is having a nervous breakdown, If I call you like 50 times today I am sorry in advance...

But for the most part it is a great time killer....
