That sounds like a large number of the bands Jaybird brings into Around The Corner. If you don't like the bands and shows, don't come. Nobody is making you.Barfight wrote: "Are you interested in seeing an up-and-coming punk/hardcore/metal band who's busting their hump to make $250 a night just so they can put that in their gas tank and stomachs, just to play the next night?" Yes, I am.
And I will say it again, Jaybird seems to be the only guy trying to do something in this area. He could bring in more notable bands, but who wants to front the additional cost? The bands he is bringing in and shows he is putting together are a nice change of pace from cover bands.
And I am quite positive that Jaybird isn't pocketing a thing or very much at all for the majority of these shows. He is doing this to help the original music scene in the area. And even if you don't like the bands he is bringing in, you should at least be able to respect his efforts.
And like Jaybird has said, this band has been offered to him. He isn't actively seeking these bands, but if he receives an offer, he might-as-well ask about it and see if it would be worth him bringing them in.
These shows are a good medium between going to firehalls and community centers to watch bands play there or going to other cities to bigger clubs and venues to watch bands. It is giving people in this area at least an option of something to do and gives original acts in this area more opportunities to play.
Just to clarify, he asked the question, "would you come see this band?" Speaking for myself, I've never heard of them (doesn't mean they aren't good) so I probably wouldn't have an interest.
It seemed when he posted this thread he was looking for input. That's what he's getting, both for and against the idea.
It's ultimately up to him whether to book it or not.
If you dig Bang Tango, which apparently some do, then go to the show. Easy as pie.

I love Bang Tango and would go depending on day of the week, cost, etc. I agree that he asked for input but no need to be rude. Props to him for bringing live music to his venue. Maybe some people don't like this kind of music....cool. I like all kinds of music and would go see pretty much any show that I can afford and that fits into my work schedule. Punk, 80's, deathmetal, heavy metal, pop, country, whatever. I love the concert experience. What I don't go see are bands that act like fans are stupid or bands that put down everyone who isn't like them or what they like. You gotta love the comradarie here.
