"Tell ya what... book the following bands, Steel Nation, Strength For A Reason, 25 Ta Life, and Not Without Resistance. Make a flyer, post it up on the internet, and around town... I PROMISE YOU, IT SELLS OUT."

I'd be more likely to show up for Bang Tango. I've never heard of any of those.

Barfight, do you have some kind of personal problem with this Jay guy? I don't know either one of you, but it seems to me that he is putting on alot of shows, and I'm sure he'd like to make money doing so. He wouldn't last long otherwise. If you don't like the band/bands that are coming, DON'T GO. Why feel the need to tell him that the bands suck and he doesn't know how to run HIS business? I'm all for ANYBODY that brings live music to the area.

"Are you interested in seeing a washed-up 80s band chock full of prima-donnas with an ego the size of texas and nothing to show for it?"

Why yes. Yes I am. Keep in mind that not all people that like this style of music got to see these bands whenever they were touring arenas in the 80's with other acts. Eventually, everyone's favorite bands will be forced to play clubs of varying sizes when their star starts to fall.

Sounds to me like this guy just promotes the music that he likes.
I see nothing wrong with that. I'd like to see more music I like around here too. Problem is, I'm a lazy bastard with about 9 million other things to do. Like go fishing.

It also sounds like he may have motivated someone to do something.

As far as money in music goes. It's there, just start a coverband.
Some coverbands make more profit for 1 show a week than some touring bands who play every night.

Not everyone is in it for the love of music.

That is a reality I just witnessed firsthand booking a benefit show.
It is also a hard pill for me to swallow.

Sometimes the girl of your dreams is someone else's dirty, dirty whore.

If the bands I dig play venues any smaller, they'll have to lose a few members.

You could book the Hillbilly Gypsies, Mama Corn and Sweetwater for $2000, production included, set up that PA & lighting in a half-hour, and we'd all be grinning at the end of the night. That show (minus Sweetwater, who's a brand new band) has consistently pulled 200+ people. In Altoona, which isn't exactly the bluegrass capitol of the world (yet). We've done it 3 times, and had to shut the doors for fire code twice. Life in the Land of Hillbillies With Disposable Income is good.

Some of mine too. Trust me. A couple of my favorite bands I could probably book in my back yard if I saved up my day job money.

I just gave him an example of how he could make money in music.
It's just a more realistic approach.

I did not mean to imply that only people in coverbands did it for reasons other than the love of music.

Some people in original bands are attention whores, and in it for the wrong reasons. Ever hear of Avenged Sevenfold or Hinder?

Don't roll your eyes at me. It hurts my feelings, you big jerk. :P

Ughhh, Avenged Sevenfold. Those fucks weren't even original enough to get their own logo. They had to steal Overkill's.

I would go to see Bang Tango and most other "washed-up" 80s hair metal bands. I would also go see most "washed-up" punk bands.

Jaybird, I say if you can afford it, bring in who you can because there are people out here that will support it.

People should be fucking happy that Jaybird brings these acts to the area. This is the problem with people. They bitch cuz no "nationals" come around, then when bands come around the bitch about that! Sometimes people are never fucking happy. They bitch in the winter because of cold, bitch in the summer because of heat. Bitch, bitch, bitch.....be fuckin happy will ya!!!

I definitely would have come to see Testament. Last I heard, Alex Skolnick is back jamming with them.
