What was the complaint with the last Democrat ?Merge wrote:Can't wait til there's a Democrat in office. What will everyone complain about then??
No lasting war. Clinton ended his without a loss of American life (if I remember correctly).
The economy was good . The Democrats were not creating MAJOR deficits like Reagan, Bush and Bush !
So what was the complaint ? OH yeah, cigars in the oval office. I'll take that over our diminished economy . How about you ?
Bush looked so happy after his speech, laughing and smiling ans signing autographs. Five American soldiers died in Iraq today. How can he be so happy ?
STATE OF THE UNION SPEECH is supposed to tell us what the state of the union IS. He seemed to forget that. He in fact never mentioned what the state of the union is !
Bumper Sticker : Bush is as solid as a rock ! Just not as smart !
You do realize that it takes 10 years for a budget to take effect. When Clinton was in office, the budget he was using was created by Regan. And guess who's budget we're under right now, that would be Clinton. My complaint with the last Democrat is that he could have had Bin Laden and said no. He also cut several divisions of the military and cut funding for the military. And right now, the military is dealing with that. I agree with the folks that say we should get out of Iraq, it's not our country and it shouldn't be our problem. Sly Stallone nailed it when he said "War is natural, Peace is an accident".
I just realized something, I swore not to discuss politics on here. I'm ashamed of myself.

Pour me another one, cause I'll never find the silver lining in this cloud.
You are so wrong . BUSH, BUSH and Reagan have collectively caused about 75% of our current deficit ! That is a fact that cannot be denied or changed or spun in any way !Merge wrote:You do realize that it takes 10 years for a budget to take effect. GWB has caused such a deficit that the value of the Dollar has gone DOWN ! That has NOTHING to do with Clinton. Oil prices are based on the USA dollar. Since the Dollar has declined (Because of what we OWE to other countries, especially China) the price has gone UP ! I can go on if you like. The economy sucks because of GWB ! Reagan and the previous Bush helped to make it suck.
Do your homework .
Clinton turned EVERYTHING over to Bush about Bin Laden, who ignored ALL of the warnings from the Clinton administration.Merge wrote:You do realize that it takes 10 years for a budget to take effect. I did my homework a long time ago. Clinton or Obama will get elected, a year or so in we'll get attacked again and all the liberals will be singing the same song they're singing now: "THIS IS BUSH'S FAULT." I disagree with you, and you disagree with me. I do respect your opinion though, at least you haven't made this a personal attack

Pour me another one, cause I'll never find the silver lining in this cloud.
I seriously doubt that Bush or Obama or anyone else could stop a terrorist attack. If a radical cell communicated in person and decides to terrorize us in some way, it will happen no matter who is in office.Merge wrote:I did my homework a long time ago. Do you realize that as the value of the dollar goes down, so does the economy ? The value goes down the more we print more money. It goes down the more we borrow from other countries. THREE US presidents are responsible for about 75% of our deficit. The bad economy IS their fault. You should know that.
Of course the lending debacle by major banks has contributed, now they want the government to bail THEM out. Keep an eye on that one.
No personal attack intended. Sorry if it comes off that way.

The problem with politics is that everyone says do the research but not many do....Bill I respect you immensly man but how Could you not remember that troops under Clinton died when we sent troops to Haiti, Bosnia, and Kosovo. I served in the Army under Clinton 94 - 98 and spent 7 months in Bosnia. Back then the Media didn't think the loss of U.S. Soldiers was good news. Now the media has become largely liberal and use the death of Soldiers to push their own agenda to get a liberal in office. No lasting war. Clinton ended his without a loss of American life (if I remember correctly).
Under Bill Clinton there were a total of 76 deaths attributed to hostile action. I looked it up. I should have done my homework. What's Bush's total up to ? What will it go up to when he hands over the quagmire to the next president ?MatchstikDrummer wrote:The problem with politics is that everyone says do the research but not many do....Bill I respect you immensly man but how Could you not remember that troops under Clinton died when we sent troops to Haiti, Bosnia, and Kosovo. Deficits
Ok read my words. The person who blames current deficits on any one side of the political isle is a FOOL and an IDIOT. If you are blaming only Bush and/or Reagan for them then you qualify and have revealed yourself as a political moroan and should be prohibited from voting as you are not responsible enough to make an informed choice.
Our current deficits are the result of BOTH parties in congress spending like drunken sailors and the American public is not taking them to task. Sure there is "Bush's" war, but do you really know what democrats are spending these days? I doubt it. When the democrats took over the house and senate and put forward legislation to bring the troops home does anyone know how the tried to make it work? The bill was laden with so many billions upon billions of dollars of ear marks (that's frat boy speak for PORK) political bribes, that it was embarassing. The Dems figured that the lgislation would have been so popular that it was going to pass and everyone piled on to get some cash for their districts back home. Sick. Those would have contributed to deficits too. Both sides of the isle are handling our money like this.
Every modern administration has run deficits going back to the turn of the century. Politicians grab for as much cash as they can get and gamble that the economy will expand and those deficits will be easy for the next generation to pay. The 2000$ house a post WWII GI purchased seemed like a mountain to pay off to him. It's a bargain to us. That's the way it works with the deficits. BOTH sides of the isle are willing to borrow against our future. Under Bush both sides have borrowed like their is no tomorrow.
FYI: Clinton basically paid down Reagan's deficits due to the econimic growth from the internet. As the .COM bubble receeded at the end of Clinton's terms, Bush found himself with Clinton's recession as he took office. 911 then should have burried our economy. Under Bush the economy has grown at a near record pace, inflation and unemploment have remaied at historic lows, all while dealing with the burden of a horribly mismanaged Irag. This is actually a bit of an economic miracle. That hasn't slowed either side from writing checks they hope us and our kids can cover. It's only seemd to encourage them.
It's time to give credit where its due and hold everyone to task, especially when it's our own party or candidate and we may not like it. It's time to be responsible for our future and put an end to this stupid political speak that sips its own favored flavor of kool aid. Both sides are guilty and our politicans have become theiri own brand of aristocrats that do as they see fit on the back of hard working Americans like us. Let's not help them bend us any further.

Yeah
Yeah what a waste of time with that last post of mine. I should know better that when people post an opinion about complex problems based upon short statementd that don't really deal adequately with the problem, it's better left alone.
Sometimes ya just can't control yourself. You know I could have finished my year end payrol tax reports to the bastards so they would know how much more they would need to borrow in the time it took me to do thse two posts. Now who is the fool... On to the joy of owning your own business.

Just to clarify.VENTGtr wrote:Not sure who raised this fallacy...but there's no truth to it, whatsoever.Merge wrote:You do realize that it takes 10 years for a budget to take effect. When Clinton was in office, the budget he was using was created by Regan.
1. The budget is not the President's budget, its the House's budget.
source: U.S. Constitution, Article I, sec 7, 8
2. The budget for the first year of an incoming administration was legislated and approved during the last year of the prior administration.
i.e. the U.S. budget for fy2001 (Dubya's 1st year in office) was legislated and approved while Bubba was in office.
I believe what Merge was saying was that it takes years for the effects of a budget to show results. It is arguable whether an entire budget can have an effect 10 years later, but his statement is probably true for many individual programs.
...Oh, the freedom of the day that yielded to no rule or time...
