It goes on on both sides. But the Republicans attempted to create a monopoly (undercover) of it. And got caught. They thought they could beat the system by forcing companies to hire lobbyists that they (the Republicans) chose. That was the K Street debacle.

You can spin it any way you want but the bottom line is:

If you look at the numbers, all the Republicans accomplished was to equalize what was once a 75% to 25% Democrat stranglehold on lobby money that spanned several decades. Their attempt at what you call "monopoly" resulted in a virtual 50/50 split today.

I will have to log all of your definitions of "monopoly", Bill, they are quite diversified.
