Britney Spears taken from home in ambulance after 3-hour child-custody standoff

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Britney Spears offered paparazzi yet another field day as she was taken from her home in an ambulance after a custodial standoff involving her children that lasted nearly three hours.

The 26-year-old pop star was taken to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, Entertainment Tonight reported on its Web site Friday. Cedars spokeswoman Simi Singer said she could not confirm or deny the report, citing patient confidentiality laws.

Officer Jason Lee of the Los Angeles Police Department told City News Service that Spears appeared to be under the influence of an unknown substance. He declined to elaborate. No injuries were reported.

Spears was conscious late Thursday when paramedics took her out of her home in a gurney. Several police cars escorted the ambulance out of the neighborhood, followed by dozens of celebrity reporters.

Officers were called to Spears’ house around 8 p.m. to respond to a custodial dispute with ex-husband Kevin Federline over their sons, 2-year-old Sean Preston and 1-year-old Jayden James, Lee said.

By about 10:30 p.m., six police cars, two ambulances and a fire truck had entered the gated-community that includes Spears’ house. Several police cars were seen in the area earlier in the night.

Spears turned over the children around 10:50 p.m., Lee said.
Calls to the Police Department’s media line early Friday were not answered.

Spears and Federline have been involved in a long and very public custody battle. Federline has temporary custody of the children because Spears, who has limited visitation rights, has defied court orders. The two were married in October 2004 and divorced in July.

Spears has appeared increasingly out of control the last year. She has been photographed without underwear and appeared to be drunk and out-of-control. She shaved her head, beat a car with an umbrella and spent a month in rehab and has had a handful of fender benders, including one in which she ran over a photographer’s foot.

Earlier Thursday, Spears appeared for a deposition in her custody dispute.
Spears was deposed for just 14 minutes, attorney Mark Vincent Kaplan told reporters after Spears left.

Spears called in sick for a Dec. 12 court-ordered deposition, but was photographed that day driving with a friend. She also didn’t show up for a session Wednesday, Kaplan said.

Spears’ attorneys from the firm Trope and Trope on Wednesday filed a court motion asking to be relieved due to a “breakdown” in communication with their client.

Kaplan said Spears’ attorneys were present for what became a very abbreviated session.

“The deposition proceeding did go forward today. It was scheduled for 9:45 to 11:45,” Kaplan said. “However, it wasn’t able to commence until 11:32.”
“You can imagine in 14 minutes there’s not a lot of time to develop questions,” he said.

Kaplan said another deposition would be scheduled.

I dont understand what everyones concern is with her. Shes fucking up! Everyone knows it. Why does everyone think its entertaining that she is losing it. Everything she does shes judged and how are you supposed to turn your life around with people constantly throwing shit at you. The big picture here is that just because shes Britney Spears, doesnt mean she's not a human being. There are 2 kids that are envolved and watching their mother kill herself through drugs and whatever else she does. Id say if the public would quit making a mockery of her, she might be able to get her shit together.

I have a hard time feeling sorry for her. Poor little rich girl. Here's life on a silver platter, now self destruct.

Maybe if she'd take a little responsibility for her own actions she could turn it around. Putting the blame on "the public" for her own life choices is misguided.

Many of us here are musicians and personally, it sickens me to see someone like Britney who "made it" take the sweet cards life dealt her and fold like this. Boo hoo. I have no pity. She makes a mockery of herself and someone needs to get those kids away from her until she pulls her head out of her ass.

I didn't see anyone say they wouldn't fuck up in her position but as Barfight said, common sense comes in handy sometimes.

I think the point is, TV shows like America's Funniest Home Videos and Jackass are huge smash hits for a reason: Human beings are entertained when they watch other people fall down or get hit in the groin with a baseball or if they wreck their motorcycle into a ditch. That's why the Britney and the Lindsay and the Paris stories are so front and center.

Each of us as parents have a responsibility to act like adults and put our children's best interest first in our lives. For her, I think her kids are just an after-thought. At least with the shitload of money that she has - she'll be able to afford life-long therapy for her kids...the poor little guys are going to need it...and that is the real tragedy of Britney's life...and I can assure you THAT is NOT entertainment.
