Why wouldn't he? Right now there is absolutely NO room for him to advance at Penn State. This team is pretty much Jay Paterno (the 3rd string QB at State High.. NEVER saw a snap in college) coaching the Quarterbacks on the latest nuances with Madden 07, Galen Hall scripting up good offensive plays, only to be vetoed by Joe Paterno, and Joe Paterno who still has a say on what goes on, but is merely a figurehead...

When Joe Paterno goes bye-byes, I assure you.. Jay Paterno will be the head coach at Penn State. There HAS to be a reason Jay Paterno was let go by UCONN and George Mason's football programs, but yet has ascended to Quarterbacks Coach at Penn State. This is why PSU has lost Ganter a few years back... and he was the best defensive coordinator that PSU has ever had...

Remember the Outback bowl last season, when Anthony Morelli and Scott had great days... that was because Tom Bradley was the acting Head Coach, and he wasn't about to mess with Galen Hall (who came from FLORIDA) and his offense... now think about why State's offense hasn't done this great since... Paterno took back to the sidelines...

If WVU makes Bradley an offer... he's gone. If that's the case.. Tom Bradley should be thanked by every Penn State fan for all he did, and apologize for all he couldn't do..

... ofcourse, I could be wrong... there HAS to be a reason why Greg Schiano turned down leaving Rutgers for Michigan...

As most Penn State fans should...as mentioned...thank Tom Bradley and that hes going as far as he can go, I hope and pray he stays and doesn't get offered the contract. However if he does get offered the contract or should I say position, then I definately would agree he should take the job that he would like to have. Jay Paterno is a joke in my mind. When or if Joe hands down the wand to Jay, WE ARE...all in serious trouble.

This is a total bummer.

What a great opportunity for Bradley and I wouldnt blame him one bit for taking the job. He certainly deserves it. It would kill Penn State too because Tom's recruiting abilities would be missed and hell lock up everything from Pittsburg where he has strong ties. Not to mention its short distance from WVU.

If he does take the job at WVU, the ship sinks a little deeper at good ol State.

We've got an old coach, whose time has long passed. His idiot son who ruins every good quarterback who comes here and only has a job because of dad. An offensive system that is so out of "whack" its infuriating to watch most times. These are sad days for Penn State. I really thought Bradley would be the next coach. I think if Joe would name him successor he would stay, but that stubborn old man's ego wont let that happen. Then you've got Spanier who has said publicly the University won't pay top dollar for a coach. Careful Spanier, Penn State football and Nittany Nation is bigger than you are buddy and it may be your undoing if you don't pay. So that leaves Jaypud. I just don't see it happening. He is not liked or respected by too many people. I could see Larry Johnson as next coach if the University won't pony up the big bucks for a top notch coach.

Please Joe....GO! Thanks for all you've done. Stay and be our ambassador, we'd love to have you! Just please, please stop coaching...you're killing us and ruining everything you've built here.

RETURN THE GLORY!!

Great for Bradley but horrible for PSU! I really hope he isnt offered the position. and if they name Jay Paterno the new Head Coach after JoPa then I think I will no longer be a Penn State Fan! IMO Larry Johnson Sr would be a good candidate for the position. He has been with the team for quite a while now and Im sure knows it in and out. Mike McQueerboy shouldnt even be on the sidelines. Every time I see his ugly ass REd Head I just want to Puke. He was one of the worst Quarterbacks at PSU and now hes trying to make everyother Quarterback as shitty as him. FUCK MIKE MCQUEERY!

Much as I would hate to see Bradley exit, it's looking less likely that he will be taking over as the Lions' head coach any time soon...

Somebody mentioned this to me a few days ago...Keep in mind that JoePa is hauling in only a half million a year from Penn State to coach, so why would State want him to retire? They're getting a bargain by keeping him on! And when the day comes that he is no longer coach, they're not willing to shell out big bucks for a head coach, so unless they get a quality name who really wants to be there (Schiano?), it would be JayPa (or Bradley, should he stay), and the decline of the football program...which would impact the other sports at Penn State, because the money coming into the university from football funds the other non-money-making sports there. You could see not just the football program, but the other sports programs, taking a serious hit in the years to come.

great points made by all...

as much as I hate the guy... Bill Cowher's "two years off" coincidentally ends in 2008... Paterno should be gone by then... I hate the guy, but PSU would definately improve... it'll never happen, but it would be cool.

JoePa is "a great figurehead", but I feel it is time to change. Unfortunately,
it all started and ended with Jerry Sandusky (as far as I'm concerned) years ago. Penn State has dropped off ever since he retired, and he should have been the heir apparent to JoePa way back. The football program is probably the University's biggest $ maker, and it would be a tragedy to see it decline anymore. I can't believe that they can't (won't)pay more out for a coach. They are are in the top 5% in the U.S. in terms of alumni contributions, philanthropy, and State funds... Yet they raise tuition every freakin' year. I get called for donations several times per year, etc. I bleed Blue & White, and this burns my ass! The coaching staff isn't aggressive enough. And Jay certainly isn't the answer to the problem. I can only pray for a good outcome in the future.

GO PENN STATE!!!!!

Jay Paterno will never be head coach at PSU. Once Joe is gone there won't be anyone there to protect him. The guy shouldn't even coach a high school team. He has no creds and no talent. If I were a blue chip QB, I would NEVER go to PSU cause they'd (Jay) never develop me.

I think PSU needs new blood. I'm holding out for Spurrier.

Not to offend you, but if Spurrier got the job I'd no longer be a PSU football fan (I can't freakin' stand the guy). Besides, that won't happen because he wouldn't take the meager 1/2 million PSU pays. Pray for PSU
folks. And BTW f#$% Graham Spanier.

Spurrier sucks.. the NFL destroyed his "fun and gun" system offense, and he certainly hasn't made it with South Carolina... he fell into a good job at Florida and never should have left..

The only realistic "non Paterno" coach right now is Greg Schiano, and even that's an incredible long shot... and even if State gets him... what's to say he'll be any better than Paterno? The Big East sucks... if PSU were in the Big East, they would win the conference every year, no matter how shitty they are... chances are, it's Jay Paterno... and as somebody already said... the demise of the program

 right. nfl is a different animal than the college game. i could say the same thing about charlie weis not hanging in division IA football. but he did well with the patriots. south carolina was a perennial loser until spurrier and it plays in a tougher conference.

if you think Jay is gonna be head coach you are smoking something.

Charlie Weis WILL win with Notre Dame. He hasn't even been able to play his own recruits... the talent they have coming in, there is NO way they don't win..

South Carolina is STILL a perennial loser... they may get a win against Florida/Georgia types every couple of years, but until they start winning with consistency, and competing for SEC Championships... they will always be a loser...

Who do you honestly feel is coming for PSU to be the next coach? There is NO succession plan on the table, there has been NO discussions of a new coach coming for when Paterno is done, and chances are that Bradley, Hall, and maybe Johnson could pack up their shit and leave... Quarterbacks aren't coming to State... Pryor told State to fuck off, AJ Alexander never considered State... get that.. a kid from Altoona... disregarding State College... wow... who do you see as the next Penn State coach?

I honestly don't know what the plan is. I personally think you need a big name coach. i would get rid of the current staff. penn state has been in a downward spiral for years. it will never be an elite program again until there is new blood in there.

as i said previously - a high school quarterback who thought he had a chance to play in the nfl would be a fool to come to PSU and have jay paterno as his coach. the guy is only on the staff cause of his dad. his own creds don't warrant his position.

Jay's creds:

Jay has been the QB Coach/Passing Game Coordinator since 2000:

Penn State's Big Ten Record BEFORE Jay took over as QB Coach 41-15

Penn State's Big Ten Record AFTER Jay took over as QB Coach 32-32

PSU vs UM and OSU since Jay took over the reins of the offense 2-12

Penn State Passing Efficiency rank in Big Ten since Jay took over as QB
Coach:

2000 - 9th
2001 - 10th
2002 - 6th
2003 - 9th
2004 - 11th
2005 - 7th
2006 - 9th
2007 - 11th

Jay Paterno's Athletic Resume:

1983 - 1986, 2nd Team QB, State College High

1987 - 1990, Walk-On QB at Penn State
Played under Joe Paterno Sr

Career Stats - 0 completions in 0 attempts....0 carries for 0 yards "I
never threw an interception!" Jay Paterno

1991 Graduate Assistant at UVA of the ACC Worked under George Welsh
(former Paterno Assistant Coach) Did not gain employment as a full-time
paid assistant coach

1992 - 1993 WR and TE Coach University of Connecticut At the time,
UConn was a 1-AA program playing in the Yankee Conference Employed under Tom Jackson, who left the program after 1993 - as did Jay

1994 QB Coach at James Madison
1-AA program and member of the Yankee Conference Employed under Rip
Scherer, former Graduate Assistant under Joe Paterno at Penn State.
Scherer left JMU after the 1994 season to take over at 1-A Memphis State
- Jay was NOT brought along with him.

1995 - 1999 TE Coach and Recruiting Coordinator at Penn State 2000 -
Present QB Coach/Passing Game Coordinator at Penn State Employed under Joe Paterno Sr. Record outlined above.

Summary:
NEVER played the game at a level above "McKee Street League"
NEVER had a paid coaching position at the 1-A level - except when
employed by his Father
