Drug Busts... Altoona

Post by Vette Lover »

I can't take it anymore. This city is turning into such a Shit Hole. The bust the other day included people from the Bronx from what I heard.

I'm sleeping with a .45 on the nightstand, .40 with laser on my desk.. .40 Glock on my hip when I go out... .357 in the truck, .22 in the file cabinet, 9mm assault rifle on top of the shelves.... I don't go out drinking anymore, what's it like out there? This was a fun town at one time.

Am I just paranoid ... Is it just me?

By the way CALL BEFORE YOU STOP OVER!

The wife is afraid to go to Bi-Lo or stop for gas at 12th st Sheetz... She comes home first and I have to go with and play Bodyguard...

I still have fun. I don't carry a gun, because I wouldn't think twice about shooting someone and it could prolly be avoided. Just don't hang out where the crackheads hangout and you'll be ok. BTW, why does your location say frederick MD, yet your bitching about Altoona?

Yes you are definitely paranoid. Shit can happen ANYWHERE.

Quit driving, I saw like 10 accidents on 17th st. alone this month.

Is this why you work from home? If so, seek help. Or not, I heard the end is coming soon anyways.

When i go to altoona i dont let the thought of drugs and guns ruin my good time. Just go out and have fun at a club/bar where there are a lot of people. It's silly to worry that much about things. If your wife doesn't like to go to 12th Street sheetz, tell her to go to 17th street sheetz which is much bigger.

I think it's legal in some southern states to shoot anyone who talks shit on Dale Earnhardt. Nascar is more serious than the internet.

ranting

Post by Vette Lover »

I've been in Altoona since the 50s so I have seen lots of changes....

Maybe it's just old age and can't tolerate the crack and heroin.

Sorry for the rant....

Yea Vette Lovr I agree with comments above....nothing stops me from going out if I want to. By myself even and I'm a girl! I personally still feel pretty safe around here, just chill, I think you're bein paranoid and watching the news/reading newspaper too much. The local crime stories anyway. Pay more attention to Britney and the presidential race (kidding about Brit). I live near the 12th street Sheetz and we all call it the Crack Sheetz. I don't think twice about stopping there if its convenient (maybe I can score some beans there?). I did draw the line when my young daughter wanted to get a job there though. HaHa...and Merry Christmas.

You have to start out just doing a small amount. You'll build up a tolerance eventually.

Seriously though, they shouldn't give free/low income housing to anyone from out of town without extensive criminal and employment background checks.

Generally, there seem to be certain parts of town that the majority of the druggie round-ups and shoot-em-ups happen, and for the most part, they don't coincide with where I do much of my bandwatching. I always keep an eye open for trouble wherever I go, but the relatively slim possibility of something bad happening isn't enough to scare me out of going out and seeing bands.

When you start staying in and locking the doors, that's when the riff-raff wins, because they've scared you into seclusion and not doing anything.

excellent points, JP.
Yes, there's crime, yes there are drug deals, yes people have gotten shot, but that doesn't mean you will be. Besides, if you go by only what you hear on the news and in the paper of course you're going to get worried and thing that there is an inordinate amount of crime happening in the city...which is pretty much what they want you to think -not to say they make anything up its just presented badly- so you keep tuning in to them.
Keep your head about you and don't go looking for trouble...and be decent to people.
Or stay home and cower in fear with your wife...its up to you

is it really that bad? do you really need to go out and assemble a small arsenal, just to protect yourself from those who won't bother you unless provoked?

i think you're worrying too much. i assure you, Altoona is nowhere as bad as some places just a short drive away, Pittsburgh, Philadelphia, hell, Baltimore is a war zone... and you're butthurt about Altoona?

here's what you do... just go about your life, and if you don't know somebody... don't speak to them. if you feel something is going down, get the hell out of dodge and notify authorities... don't try to be Bill Foster, you'll be fine...

The half of it is that it has affected my life personally. I supposed that is why I am so up about it today. As far as my collection of firearms I don't think it is overboard.

I was a peace loving hippie in the 70s but something changed my mind about that. Actually it was a Crack House up the street!

Just go about your business and ignore it is a bunch of bullshit if you ask me. I'm not no vigilante or do I support that attitude but turning a blind eye is just as bad as endorsing it.

yeah man that was ALL sarcasm.... that entire statement is CRAP ..... dudes people do what people do a bust only means the addict needs to go to another dealer ( which will ALWAYS be there ) I say Legalize it ALL and that would bring in HUGE tax dollars AND think of the $$ we would save by NOT paying all those cops to sit around for months peeking through binocs to see the dirty ole drug guy...

Burn one and maybe a Lude or something to just relax was the tone of the day but now what has happened?

I guess What bothers me is the innocence of experimentation to the extreme of addiction. But you can't go back...

Best Sanchez post ever...well, maybe not ever, but it's definitely in the top five.

I see nothing wrong with being into guns, but yeah, the small arsenal sounds a little paranoid. Is there riff-raff in Altoona? Sure there is. Of course, you hear the worst about it on the news. It's something we people in the shrinkology business call an availability hueristic. It's when you hear about a traumatic event and think that it is representative of reality. There are dumpy parts of Altoona. There are parts of Altoona I wouldn't want to drive through at night, let alone walk through. There are a lot of junkies living in low-income housing as Uncle Sam foots the bill. There are also a lot of really awesome people in 'Toon Town and some great clubs to play at. Honestly, I love Altoona. Altoona was a tough railroading town. It was never Berkley California. I don't buy the "back in my day" arguments, because the truth is 50 or 75 years is a fart in the grand scheme of time; human history extends for thousands of years. I'm sure there was some dude in ancient Mesopotamia saying, "back in my day," in reference to how human kind was going down the shitter.
"He's the electric horseman, you better back off!" - old sKool making a reference to the culturally relevant 1979 film.
