Mesa Recording Pre switch

Post by djlotus51 »

I just bought a Mesa Recording Pre and the Clean/Fat/Brit switch is broke. The manual says that it's a Mesa part #607303, but I'd rather just pick one up at Radio Shack or something and solder it in myself.

Anyone have any experience with cross-referencing the Mesa part with the 'real world' part so I could pick it up cheaper?

I haven't done that myself, but I belive you should be able to take it in with you and match it up.

The switch should have it's values on the side of the case. If not try Terry@ guitar n stuff.

Or perhaps Lonewolf would be able to help you out also, he's really good with that stuff.

Sorry I wasn't much help, but there's some guys on here that know what they are doing so I'm sure that you'll get a quick answer.

In the 'real world', there is no single cross reference number for a toggle switch. As I recall, Mesa uses mini-toggles for channel mode switching. Your best bet is to make a wiring diagram to the switch, pull it and see how many poles it has and whether it is on-off-on or on-on-on.

I wouldn't use a Radio Shack toggle if they were giving them away.

If I were you, I would take the switch to a local music store like Ford's or Music Emporium and see if you can get a switchcraft or similar part. Also, Hite's lighting might have them.

Thanks for the help!

I definitely wouldn't ever use anything from Radio Shack either, I just picked a poor example!

I guess I worded the question poorly too as my goal is to find the exact switch manufacturer and model that Mesa uses...just to be sure that I don't end up with an odd-ball looking switch--although I'm sure they use multiple suppliers. I'm pretty familiar with electronics, so with a quick look through Digi-Key I could get it functioning properly...but it definitely wouldn't look right!

Anyhoo, thanks again and I'll swing by some music shops to see if they can get me something in!

Also, try www.mouser.com

They don't have a minimum order like Digi-Key, so you can order a $10 switch and not get charged an extra $10 handling fee.

You will also find a lot of goodies there like Orange Drop caps under a buck.
