I have trouble honoring a wife beater despite how successful of a musician that person was. Sorry.

Not to rain on the Ike-bashing party, but keep in mind one big contribution that Ike made to music, without which there might never have been a "Rock"-page...
Turner, a member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, is credited by many music historians with making the first rock 'n' roll record, Rocket 88, in 1951.

Broadcaster Paul Gambaccini told BBC Radio 4's Today programme: "In musical terms [he was] very important.

"Rocket 88 is one of the two records that can claim to be the first rock 'n' roll record, being the other being The Fat Man by Fats Domino from 1949," he said.
So while he had his demons, to be sure, he did make one big contribution that helped sow the seeds for rock'n'roll.

Ike was also a pioneer of extreme whammy bar usage on the guitar. He surely passed a few tricks on to a young Jimi Hendrix while Jimi was in his band. [Insert your own whammy bar abuse joke here.]

I'm glad I didn't have to fight in a war, I'm glad I didn't get killed or kill somebody, I hope my kids enjoy the same lack of manhood
