Boss Super Feedbacker/ Distortion

Post by Killjingle »

Ive read up on these. Anyone have one? Curious to see what they are all about in a real live playing atmosphere, and if worth the hefty price tag since they are kinda hard to find...

That effect is in my Boss VF-1 with extra enhancements like vibrato.

It is excellent at catching feedback, but I find it unnatural sounding and prefer to rely on natural feedback.

If you want a full spectrum of Boss Pedals + harmony + synthesizer in one box, I recommend finding a used Boss VF-1 (<$200=2 Boss pedals) and get a Boss FS-6U dual footswitch with a 25' stereo TRS cable to control it from out front. You can also control it with MIDI if you are running a midi rig. This works well with FX loops, but these FX probably work better at the amp input, especially if you use a Strat.

Here's a link to the manual, check it out (you may have to register with Roland):

Something else that I haven't tried but looks interesting is this pickup gain booster from Seymour Duncan. My thinking is that if you have a great amp, why would you want to eff up the sound with a distortion pedal? This pedal looks like the perfect solo boost for a tube amp with a sensitive input:

dont want it for distortion;

just looking for an effect for a particular song that we are writing. I play far enough away from my amp in the center of the stage along with trying to be reasonable with stage volume that I thought it might help in a situation or two...

I see. Keep in mind that in order to use the feedbacker function on the DF-2, you need to keep your foot on the pedal the whole time you want to hold the feedback, so you are stuck at the location of the pedal.

That is not the case with the VF-1 feedbacker, but you probably wouldn't want to solo for very long with it turned on. The VF-1 also has a programmable rise time which would delay the full effect until after you hold a note for the set time. The manual has all the details and the long list of other very useful FX.
