Floyd Rose

Post by Killjingle »

Just had Terry (Guitars n Stuff) put a Floyd Rose on my guitar; the "Licensed" version was starting to crap out on me.

What a huge difference between the two. I got the tone in my guitar that I originally thought I would have had when I upgraded the two pickups to active. It added some sustain that I was also looking for. If u have a licensed floyd on your main axe or maybe an axe u use for multiple tunes... u should seriously consider this upgrade. I really like the way he set this up and it is intonated beautifully. I think I'll play my guitar all day today.

249 installed with new springs; intonated; restrung

this was money well spent Scott... I could have put one on myself cheaper but this thing plays like a dream... Terry really has this FR thing mastered

TT if u dont own a guitar with a tremolo make sure u try a couple first... it is def not like a fixed bridge guitar and that is one the biggest mistakes a lot of ppl make when buying one... not to mention there is a good bit of learning curve when it comes to palm muting, less sustain, etc

What's everyone's opinion on a Floyd Rose vs. a Kahler?
"He's the electric horseman, you better back off!" - old sKool making a reference to the culturally relevant 1979 film.

I grew up with a Kahler... on a Gibson plum flying V... I hated the way that guitar played, sounded, and the mechanics of the trem system

but I wouldnt be able to make a comparison strictly on that... when u r a kid and theres no such thing as the internet its not real easy to find someone who can make suggestions to what may be wrong

My Schecter is great for now. I want to have Joe do some custom work to it for me. I still have some studio stuff i have to buy before i can get a new guitar. :D I really love the way my Schecter plays and feels, so ill prob get another one, but with a floyd. Im sticking with my DiMarzio Evolution pickup though.
I really like this guitar: Image

Floyd's rule man, I don't know what I'd do w/out it.
You know I wanted a non-floyd Jackson V so I bought a new one at Music Emporium about 2 years ago, and I played it for about 3 weeks maybe?
And ended up selling it (for a huge loss) before it was even a month old.

I think it was mainly because I didn't have my fine tuners, and it never stayed in tune as good as my Floyds.
I can change strings, stretch them out and tune, lock it in and fine tune, and it pretty much stays in tune until the next string change, or unless I'm messing with the truss rod or the action.

When I first started playing floyds, I did all of the work myself, because I really couldn't afford to take it to a shop. But now I'm glad I learned it myself, cause it saved me$ , but I probably used that up with tylenol for my headaches LOL!

They can be a nightmare at first, but once you get used to playing and working on one, you'll love them to death.

Tranny, that's a nice Schecter that you picked out, I really like that.
You should join Team Jackson, and get a Rhoads!
