We played there back in our fledgling days. The room size isn't too bad, but it was like playing in a cave. Sound just bounced all over the place. A large PA probably wouldn't be a good idea in a place like that.

It's a real nice place to play. They don't have in-house sound, so you'll need your own PA. Victor's right about the room though; keep your volume down or it will be a nightmare trying to mix.

Agreed.
They just did some remodeling, it'a pretty cool.

Trust me, all you'll need at Magoo's is vocal PA only. The room is WAY too bright for anything else. There's not a shred of dampening anywhere in the band room, all concrete and wood. Monster slapback unless you can get the place packed. Just go with a low PA volume and gently increase it as the nite gets busier.
To get to Magoo's from Altoona, get on 36 through Hollidaysburg to the intersection of 36 & 22. Hang a right, head through Duncansville and up the mountain into Cresson. Down to the bottom of the hill past Sheetz, turn right on Front Street. (If you go under the underpass, you've gone too far.) Then proceed down front street about 3 blocks, Magoo's is on your right. You'll want to load in from the alley behind the joint, there's a door that takes you to stage left. Narrow door, just be careful not to dent your gear.

Magoo's is no longer a cavern. They put in a new drop ceiling and it solved the problem. They also enlarged the stage, although you can still bang your head on that big beam if you jump up at just the right spot. Also, they reinforced those nice oak tables so its safe to dance on them while jamming. Go ahead, run instruments thru your PA there.
