The avg person would learn how to record his or her music very easily. Not to mention, the people who know allready know how to can discuss techniques. I think every band or musician should learn to record themselves. not only does it prepare you for if you still want to go into a studio, it will help you capture those ideas FAST!! I have just as much fun recording as i do playing and writing music. Forget spending $100's of dollars on a hardware digital recorder. You can use the freely available software and use your computer as the recorder. Simple to make a cd of your idea too. Anyway, the clinic would cover stuff like: Different types of setups, specific components in a computer based setup, How to set your inputs and outputs, Avoiding latency, Plugins, Audio recording and editing, Midi recording and editing, Mixing, Burning the cd or making mp3s and Troubleshooting.
It'll even help the guy trying to find band members. He will be able to post his riffs or song ideas online for people to hear.
