Need Advice
I am looking at buying a game system as a " family " " house " gift for Christmas, I have looked online at PS 2, 3 & Also XBOX and 360 and blah blah blah... Here is my situation, I am a gaming beginner, I have 3 daughters 14,15,16, who will use it as well, WHAT DO I BUY????
I'm glad I didn't have to fight in a war, I'm glad I didn't get killed or kill somebody, I hope my kids enjoy the same lack of manhood

I'd say go with the 360. Its about thwe best console system out there. I hear the PS3 has better graphics, but it costs almost twice as much as the 360. But it all depends on what you want to spend. The original XBOX and the PS2 are still decent systems, but the games themselves wont look as good. Hope that helps.

They are all good in their own way. 360 had problems when it first came out with overheating. Some guys found that suspending the power pack helped but I am sure the newer ones have this worked out by now. Regular XBOX is still pretty good and if your a beginner you'll not have anything to compare it to anyway. Also the games are cheaper since a newer system came out. I don't jump on any game that 1st comes out at $49-$65 because all the bugs aren't worked out as with HALO-3. I'll wait till I see it a couple years later in the bargain bin for $10. It will still be just as hard to play for me as it would be at $49. One thing you might consider is what types of game you would be into. And see which system has more of those types of games to offer. I like some war ones, racing, 4 wheelers, monster trucks, Zelda type mazes, monster garage ect. But still have fun with games our kids have. (I finally beat Cat In The Hat...LOL) but SpongeBob is kicking my butt!! (not in a gay way!)
I even still miss the Coleco system I had "Donkey Kong!"

it depends entirely on what you plan on doing with it.
if you have any intention of playing online multiplayer games, get the Xbox 360, it has such good online multiplayer functionality that nothing else can even touch it (except maybe the PC, which colton will tell you if he sees this)
Xbox 360 has tons of games that appeal to the more adult gamer, and the Wii has lots of kiddie games. Apparently the Wii is pretty rad, but I'm just not into kid orientated games.
As far as I'm concerned the PS3 isn't even in the running. Way too expensive, and it has like 4 games, none of which are worth playing. They will get the new metal gear solid game, which will probably rule, but it isn't going to be worth $600.
The original Xbox and the PS2 are still fine, but there won't be many if any new games released for it, and they are substantially outclassed by the newer systems. Of course you can get them used at EB for like $80, so there's not a lot of investment.

Stand back, I like to rock out.
If you are looking for family fun more than good graphics when playing a racing game or a shooter, I'd get a Nintendo Wii. (if you can)
Most of the games are simple looking, but fun as hell. I don't play mine very often (which is terrible considering how hard it was to get), but when we have friends or family over it's a hit every time.

That's my next one! It's ment to get you off the couch and into the game more...A good choice for your teens.Mikey Wax wrote:If you are looking for family fun more than good graphics when playing a racing game or a shooter, I'd get a Nintendo Wii. (if you can)

You guys are so evil, suggesting a modded Xbox for a "family" system for a "beginning gamer"! L33t h4x!
Dude, you so want a Wii. Xbox and PS3 are marketed at hardcore gamers. The Wii is for anyone with a pulse. Order a pizza and fire up Wii bowling. You'll be the dad of the year. (PS - It's also cheap.)

You can get a ton of the classics on Wii already. Plus you'll be able to get new releases and have a valid warranty and enjoy the motion-sensing Wii controls. Those controls are the big "wow" factor for casual gamers, who probably only recognize a half dozen retro games anyway.Team Transylvania wrote:why? all the snes, nes, genesis, atari, n46, & arcade games makes it worth it!

Don't get me wrong, modded Xboxes are the shiznit for game aficionados. I'm more of a h3x0r gamer than a casual gamer any day. Love the emulators. C64 FTW!
Bob,
I agree with the crew...the Wii is the way to go. When it comes to product engineering, Nintendo usually does it right (and they sure came out of nowhere last year to beat the pants off of PS3).
Dude, I remember playing drunken "Donkey Kong Country" with you back in the old days. Man, Diddy Kong made me laugh like an idiot after 8 or 10 Rolling Rocks! And, oh yeah, you completely SUCKED at video games, so regardless of what system you get, I can hardly wait to come down to your place and beat you like a $2 whore!
It's on brudda!

I have a 360 and my brother has PS3. The PS3 is very respectable, but i am definately glad i got my 360. The online features are better, there are more games, and i think the HD through the 360 surpasses the PS3. Thats just my personal opinion though.
