Penn State violence
Is it just me being de-sensitized, or is the media making WAY too big of a deal about the guy from Pittsburgh throwing a beer can at an Ohio fan in an alley? For those who don't know, it was on Youtube and its all over the front page of the CDT every day since it happened. I mean, it is rude and all, but things like this happen all the time when you combine football with beer, college level or Pro. Thoughts?

I think any type of violence is unacceptable. What if the can would have hit the other guy in the head and caused harm?? Full cans or even half full cans of beer can pack a punch if thrown. It shows the younger kids that this is okay to do this against rival teams. I think they need to have the shit scared out of them, slapped with a fine and maybe a night in jail.

If you have an EGO, go look in the mirror, then you will realize you shouldn't.
PSU...
IMO.... People, adults or kids, have NO respect for anything or anyone, anymore. And you can "get away" with just about anything. All you will get is a slap on the wrist!!! God for bid, "You do the crime, you do the time!!". It's in-humane!!! And $$$ talks!!! And guess what, it all starts with the parenting.
I could go on.... But, I won't!!!

ZappasX, I agree w/ you, the media is making a big deal about this.
In fact, the media, especially in the last 5 years have been nothing but a bunch of whiny little bitches making a spectacle out of everything.
He got hit with an aluminum can for fucks sake.
Who really gives a damn, I mean really. Get over it, quit bitching. (not directed at you, but the media in general)

i'm not being rude to you ZXW. but my personal opinion is: i could care less. i'm don't read the papers, i watch enough news to kind of be familiar with whats going on around me, but the media to me is a joke and feel i'm a better person if i don't fall into reading or watching all the bullshit that they manipulate. i have a 21 month old little girl and like just hanging with her and not filling my head with crap. i'm all about sesame street.
you mix booze with anything and whatever the situation is, it's a crapshoot. you never know whats gonna happen. alcohol should be outlawed in my opinion. i'm one of those that can just have one or two beers and be done. i'm wathching alcohol slowly but surely destroy someone i love very much and theres nothing i can do. it sucks.
sorry if i got off topic.

Yeah, they are all over that story, but no word on the radio-active water leak.
Yes, once again the agenda of the vile media has been outed. I've said it before, I go to work every day just to see what facts I can twist to serve my own evil purposes ...
Muhuhuhahahaha ... (wrings hands together like Mr. Burns)
Facts: Someone threw a beer can at someone (which is battery) and it was captured on film. It was done by a PSU person against an Ohio State person during PSU/OSU game weekend. It's news and it's the media's responsibility to report it.
The evil media did not manufacture the video — the tape speaks for itself. It's up to everyone to take the information provided by the bastards at the newspapers and the TV stations and do with it what you will. Is everything that's reported high priority to everyone? No. Do we still have a duty to report it? Yes. If it didn't make the papers or TV, there would be people bitching about that.
Really, there's no conspiracy here.

That's what she said.
Here's the link to TV-10's story on the incident:
http://wearecentralpa.com/content/fulltext/?cid=3293
The televised report said that there could be sanctions against the fraternity for allowing the incident to happen and not controlling a member staying on their grounds.
If this incident doesn't show up on YouTube, we probably don't hear much, if anything, about it. It's like the St. Patty's day fight at Aldo's a few months ago; somebody captured video of it and sent it to the Dime, who then ran the story and blew the thing out of proportion.
And with the publicity this is now getting, if it receives play at Ohio State, it increases the possibility of retaliation next year against Penn State fans when the two teams play out there.

Rob, I give you my sincere apologies. I forgot that you work for the paper.
While you are just doing your job, I commend you for that.
Maybe my irritability should be directed more so toward the people who call in and report such non sense.
You are right, that was battery.
I was trying to say that most things like this over shadow more important life events on a daily basis.
I guess I just have a cynical way of thinking.
Didn't mean to call you out on something that you are not.
He got hit in the head with a beer can!
Oh well, it could be worse, he could have gotten shot.

Don't get me wrong, I do agree that things like this have a tendency to get blown out of proportion, but, the bottom line is, the media has a job to do and the attention different stories get is usually relative to the importance the readership/viewership puts on each story/topic. It's no surprise to me that the CDT has put an emphasis on it, considering the geography involved.
As JP said, things like this happen all the time but don't get videotaped. If this weren't filmed, you probably would've never heard about it. It would've been buried in the police log.
I just really get tired of hearing people blaming the media for all that is effed up about this world. Society is screwy all on its own without help from the media.

Rob, I agree with that totally.
Seems as though these charges are being pushed just because the camera was a witness.
If it weren't taped would it still be a big deal? No.
And more importantly, if it were such an atrocity, why did the victim not report it after the fact?
He got hit in the head with a beer can!
I can't stop saying that LOL!!

First of all, the douche bag that ran up to the OSU guy and fired the beer can at close range should get his ass kicked. He's not even a Penn Stater. He goes to school at Pitt.(Figures!) I hope he does get convicted and fined. BUT...
How fuckin stupid do you have to be to go wandering through a keg/beer party of 150 PSU students, on campus in front of a frat house, wearing jerseys of the opposing team? That frat is far from the stadium, so they weren't just "lost" looking for the game. That's just asking to be harassed.

You don't shoot a man in the dick!
Pretty sick video....makes all us "fans" look bad nationally. From the stories Ive read the 2 ohio state kids were guests and had stayed there the night before. They were from the ohio state chapter of the same fraternity. I guess something turned bad.
I was at the game and tailgated all day and night. I didnt see anything but good sportsmenship from both sides. I had beers and talked to a few osu fans.
This stuff happens at every school across the country. I bet the dumb ass frat VP doesnt think it was so funny to post that on youtube now. Ha ha ha!

It was the top story on The Dime's 5 PM newscast today. (Must be a slow news day...there's nothing more important for the top story?) Charges were filed against the Pitt student who fired the beer can at point-blank range, and disorderly conduct charges were brought against the fraternity. The fraternity may also have sanctions brought against it by its national organization.

J.P. makes a good point paybacks a bitch.... Next year it'll be hell for PSU fans to go to OSU..
Back when I still got student section tix one of the last games I went to was the OSU/PSU game and was horrified to realize I was in the middle of the student section next to 2 kids with OSU Jerseys on.. I thought for sure I'd be covered in Coke by games end but everyone was cool as hell towards them... of course we beat the snot outta them that year but it was still kinda tense...
My girlfriend went to WVU (insert couch joke here) and I've been down there for the back yard brawl and you don't wanna have any Pitt stuff on that's a given... I'd hate to see PSU get the bad rep a school like WVU has for treatment of fans...
If you really wanna see some funny shit though go to this site
http://www.smackapparel.com
The shirts about JoePa's garbage removal service are awsome..
and check out the WVU shirts "save a couch beat WVU"
Now that there's funny I don't care who you are... hehe...
or check out the "Beat Georgia and kick that mangy mutt they brought with them" hehe...
