Car Accident
Car Accident
I was driving down Rumbarger Avenue on my way downtown when i came through a 2 way stop. Myself and the oncoming lane had the right of way. A green Grand Am driven by an old lady named Marge was in the on coming lane. Her and i were just getting ready to pass one another when a car driven by some college chick ran the stop sign and slammed into the green Grand Am. I saw the whole thing coming so i eased on the breaks. But...when the green Grand Am was hit by the passenger side rear tire it went air bourne and hurrdled towards me. I was going about 25mph so i threw my jeep into an old mans yard and spun it around so i didnt fly down the hill. The green Grand Am did a 190 degree turn and ended up in the other lane pointing towards the way it came. It was hit so hard it spun around and went UP the bank. I saw the ladys head flying around the car when she was hit. So as soon as i stopped spinning i rolled out of my car and ran over to see if she was ok. She was crying and was shaking so bad she couldnt get her seat belt off. So i opened her door took her seat belt off and asked if she was ok. She said she thought she hit her head off of something. And seeing her head flying all over the car i figured she had a concussion. But im not EMT so i didnt say anything. I told her to stay put. Calm down and put her 4 ways on.
I went over to the silver vehicle that had ran the stop sign and asked if she was ok. She was probly early 20s. And she was fine. She seemed upset but she was ok. She said her foot "slipped" off of the break. I didnt say anything i just wanted to make sure she was ok. I asked her to call the police and to tell them to bring an ambulance. she didnt call. A passerby had to call. And forgot to call for an ambulance.
I went back over to the green Grand Am to talk to the lady and she was bawling pretty hard. I saw laundry scattered everywhere and an empty basket. So i figured id try and lighten the mood and i said "Well...you're going to have to fold laundry again". She kinda smirked and told me her daughter had a soccer game at DAMS and she was supposed to be there. I told her that if she got checked out and everything was ok id take her over to DAMS. But she was trying to call her daughter to tell her she was in a wreck and couldnt make. She couldnt get her phone open..so i had to call. And i felt horrible having to call this little girl and tell her that her mother wasnt coming.
I walked back over to check on the girl in the silver car and she starts saying "It was her fault, She was moving way too fast". So i figured incase she didnt know id tell her..."You're in the MIDDLE of the intersection". She said she actually moved her car forward 2 feet. First off...WHY would you move your vehicle into the intersection more? And secondly...why do the short skid marks lead exactly to where your tires are? Hmm...someone is trying to get out of trouble.
2 police officers arrive...Officer Young and another Officer whos' name i didnt catch. I told the unamed officer to call for an aumbulance. That the lady probly hit her head and may have a concussion. But i told him i wasnt sure. Soon after an ambulance comes and put the lady driving the green Grand Am on a stretcher and puts her neck in a neck brace.
According to Officer young...the chick that RAN the STOP sign is saying the green Grand Am was speeding. I gave him my statement, told him what i saw and what happend because i was the first person there and i had the best damn view of what happend then anyone...after all...i almost got pulled into the wreck.
What a fucked up world we live in...A mom is going to see her daughter play soccer and is hit by some chick that doesnt know how to slow down nor stop and the offender actually TRYS TO LIE THEIR WAY OUT OF IT!
If i have to go to court to back up this poor lady so be it. I refuse to believe i live in a world where a dumb ass like that wins.
On a side note...I'm fine...My jeep is fine and it saved my ass. I feel grateful that everyone was ok.
Have you noticed i always get caught up in stuff. lol
AND THE JEEP FROM HELL SAVED MY ASS....WHO WOULD HAVE THOUGHT?

You were fortunate to not be involved, other than as a witness. How 'bout if no one saw it and the young girl flees? Stuff like this happens all the time.
I was just thinking the other day of a few close calls I had in my lifetime. People pull out in front of you, you run a red light or stop sign in an unfamiliar area. You drive upon an accident that happened minutes ago. Your car breaks down and you're at the mercy of the public (great time to have a cell phone).
I don't agree that all these things happen for a good reason, but for those of us still around, there must be a purpose and we should get along with life and "go for it". But for those who lost someone before their time, you are among what I call the walking wounded. Life will never be the same. You just go on.

I nominate Primates to get the RockPage Good Samaritan award for the month of October.
Seriously, after seeing the topic, I'm glad to know you (...or your Jeep) weren't hurt.
Although I do believe everything happens for a reason, I can totally relate to what Big Jim wrote, near hits, et cetera! Sorry for the Carlin moment, but I had the thought that if it's a NEAR miss, you've most likely hit someone.

Damn man, hope that lady's alright and the girl who hits her gets what she deserves. I've seen injustice happen enough times. I can relate to the nearly-being-plowed kinda thing. I'm just gonna add on to interesting driving stories. Hope you don't mind. Heh
Once, coming from my g/f of the time's place, her father (I get along with her family really well, and she and I are still friends) was driving me home from Ebensburg, where they live. So we're comin down and just about to hit the highway. The light turns green, and he pauses, just waiting. I hear a honk from behind us. For a second, I looked to him and I was about to tell him to go, but I didn't. I just sat. At that point, I looked over to my right... And what I watched makes me realize that sometimes, you do things for reason... This BIG-ass Semi goes BARRELLING through the red light! He was CLEARLY going above the speed limit! Had I told the old man to go, I SERIOUSLY don't think I'd be talking with you guys today
Heh... Ask Myke (Second Offense) about the time we were goin to Johnstown. In Altoona, it was just raining. Just outside the city, it was snowing, and rather heavily. We went skidding along the road left and right on the fresh powder. The UGST girls were freaking out, and I'm just sitting there with a "This's fun!" sense of amusement... Even though we nearly took a road sign with us! I'm glad we were going out of Altoona and not coming in though...

for your information...we aren't all that bad...I just turned 25 and have only ever run into someone once while driving because I was stuck in a whiteout on a road covered with ice and rear ended someone who rear ended someone else. My record would be clean today except that I couldn't see them in all the snow.RobTheDrummer wrote:Just another reason that girls under 25...no wait 35 shouldn't drive.
But Primates...I'm glad the two of you are okay and that the woman doesn't have any lasting problems from it
Worth dying for. Worth killing for. Worth going to hell for. Amen.
Re: Car Accident
That's the world I live in, dude. A major difference between my generation and yours (and believe me, it pains me to sound like my father saying this), is that parenting has become more and more a function of ego instead of selflessness. It's become more important to "agree" with whatever your kid says than to admit that they screw up. Instead of your child learning from their mistakes, which would maybe shed a negative light on your parenting skills, you simply deny that the kid did anything wrong. Done. The downshod is that it really only hurts the kid. If a kid hears, "My kid wouldn't do that, I raised him better" enough, what he gets from it is, "If I do something wrong, my dad will back me up." No consequences. I can screw up, because it's ME, you idiot. The college chick knows that an easy lie may just get her out of it, and her ego can make it believable. F**k you, Marge.Primates wrote: I went over to the silver vehicle that had ran the stop sign and asked if she was ok. She was probly early 20s. And she was fine. She seemed upset but she was ok. We also live in a world where my destination is more important than yours. "How dare you drive your car ahead of mine , you stupid f**king asshole, get off the f**king road... Can't you see I'm going somewhere?" I don't have to drive defensively. I'm ME. This is reason number two that I don't drive a new car (number one is massive depreciation, but that's a different thread). Somebody is going eff-up my vehicle, it's happened to nearly every car I've owned (that I didn't eff-up, myself).
Good for you for even stopping. I was in a bad accident a number of years ago, right in front of a firehall where there was a carnival going on... 50 firemen in turnout gear saw the whole thing and came running, my truck was accordioned up, blood everywhere, even babies in the other car... people drove around the carnage before they shut off traffic. My brand new Alvarez acoustic was thrown clear in the crash, and a van ran over it trying to get around. Is where you're going that important? Yeah, there's a bloody guy with his head split open, a hundred feet from where he was a second ago, and an older lady with babies in the car, and she's bloody, too... On the other hand, K-mart closes in an hour, and I really need to get tomato stakes for the garden. See ya. Crunch, oops, did I do that?
The thing is, I want to be that way, too. I want to just be on my own little trip, and arrange the world around me, but I can't. If it looks like you're going to cut me off in traffic, I have to touch my brakes. I want to teach you a $20,000 lesson in invading my personal space, but I'm too afraid someone will get hurt. They should make everybody look at a dead body when they get their driver's license. Not those gory films they show in Driver's Ed, a real dead traffic victim. You should have to join a First Responders or EMT group in order to get your permit. I actually did, and in a tiny rural place like Cassville, PA, we had at least 3 fatalities in 6 months. I had to tell someone I knew my whole life that her 12-year-old son had been struck by a car on his bike, and was dead. I saw someone slumped over a steering wheel against a tree. I helped remove Cassvile's only fire fatality ever from his burned house. With a coal shovel. That'll drive home your mortality real quick, right there. I quit the fire company after that, I'm just not built for that (bless those who are).
You seem like a level-headed kid, Primates. I'm sure you learned something from all this. Good for you, and thanks for allowing me to rant.----->JMS
Hats off to you bro for stopping and for what you may have to do for her in court later. Was the girl on a cell phone? Or texting?...I see where they are trying again to outlaw cell again. (which it is illegal most places)...I think if they are doing that they also need to look at several other distractions...like eating when driving....people trying to eat a Big-Mac and looking for the lettuce when it falls...and cigarettes!!.
I am on the road 75% of my day and seems 3 out of 5 people are on the phone...(not that I ain't. Working for the phone company, my phone rings all day).
I use to follow one lady over the mountain every morning. I think she smoked Benson & Hedges 100,000,000,000!!!! Thing was like 4 ft long. And every time she'd flick the ashes out the window she'd be in the other lane...Then the butt flew out in a fireworks display and she'd be on the berm digging her pack out to fire up another! Made me start leaving 15 mins earlier!

I travel a lot, so I see some really fucked up things on the road. I agree with what Johnny says about everyone being in a hurry. I do get perturbed at people doing 15 mph below the speed limit, but I'm not in that big of a hurry to get anywhere. I figure that the consequences of being late for something, whether it's work, school, or a gig, are really nothing compared with the consequences of being in a car accident.
One of the craziest roads where I live is a stretch of highway called Crooked Sewer. People from the Clearfield area know what I'm talking about. Most of its curves are very gradual, like an interstate, so of course, people like to ride it doing 75 or 80 mph. I'm surprised that there hasn't been a bunch of head-on collisons on it due to idiots passing three cars at a time. I know that I've had some close calls.

Hmmm, I reread my diatribe, and realized I never really got to the point: that of the girl attempting to shift the blame. "Sure, I wasn't paying attention. Sure, I ran a stop sign. But, she might have been speeding!"
How parenting ties into that is, if a person is taught that right is right and wrong is wrong, they will be more likely to accept responsibility for their own actions.
It doesn't matter if the woman was speeding. If the girl had stopped and looked, like you're supposed to, there would not have been an accident. If the girl had stopped, even if the woman was driving at 120mph, the girl would have just said, "Wow, she's moving fast." End of story.
Hope that clarifies. Focus, Johnny, focus.-------->JMS

It's weird, It should say" unless it's clearly your fault"brokenstrings wrote:Read the back of a Progressive insurance card some time. It gives the insured directions on what to do after an accident.
One of the instructions says "Do not admit fault to other drivers or police."
Pretty dirty IMHO.
As long as it doesn't say "Blame other driver for causing accident." I guess it's legal.

I drive through the very same intersection where this lady was hit atleast 4 or 5 times a day. Before the accident i was always expecting to see headlights from some asshole trying to bury me. So when i saw that car heading towards her i just though "oh shit..it happend...but not to me"
I dont need to go through something to get an idea on whats its like. I have a pretty damn good imagination. I've never been in any severe car accidents. Not like this. But i know this...if i ever (and god forbid) get into a bad accident i want someone there for my skinny ass.
A friend of mine told me after hearing what happend that i had gotten my ticket to heaven when "my time comes". Thats doesnt go down well with me. I did what ANY human being should And anyone that leaves someone in a life threatening situation and doesnt make atleast an attempt to help..isnt a human being. I'm ashamed to call myself a human being because of people like that.
I got a call from the insurance company from the lady that was hit. I gave them my statement. According to the guy the chick that hit her gave up denying it. After my statement he said that it was pretty much finished. the lady is out of the hospital. She lives right down the street from me. So i plan on going down to see if shes needs a ride for anything. I know how much it sucks to have blls to pay and no car to get to work, school or anything else.

Careless drivers SUCK. I was on my way home from work tonight on I99 - and I was almost blown off the road by two young punks driving a white Audi TT with some stupid orange racing performance stickers on it. After they passed me they were taking the 17th street exit. They were in the exit lane...and literally...came back onto the highway 4 times to pass 4 cars in the exit lane. I was amazed at what I saw. I ended up following them down into Juniata. The only way I was able to keep up with them was because we kept catching red lights. Without exaggerating, they changed lanes to pass cars (cutting some of them off) no less than 30 times from the 17th St exit to the left turn onto to Juniata Gap Road. They ended up heading into the Altoona Campus. Two young punk kids - mommy & daddy probably bought Junior the car so he would have something to drive to classes. Junior is a careless a$$hole and I HATE the thought that my kid is out on the same roads as him.

Ro, were you able to copy his plate #? Report him to campus, Altoona and State police. The latter 2 will most likely do nothing, but I'd ask campus police to notify his parents of the constant unsafe, reckless driving. They may care.
On the highways, I don't believe I've EVER cut someone off...my father was a truck driver for much of his life and I listened to every word he said about defensive/offensive driving.
I try to keep plenty of distance between my vehicle and others. Also, it just about makes me ill when I see people going 65+ mph directly behind big trucks, or any other vehicle for that matter.
What ARE they THINKING!?!
Primates, you're not only a Good Samaritan, you're a good neighbor too, very rare. Bless you!

We are Thinking Go faster!

You don't shoot a man in the dick!
And remember, when you hear about THOSE crashes on the news, it always says, "...the driver of the sedan remains in critical condition, while the driver of the semi was uninjured."
I used to draft trucks when I commuted from Lancaster County to Huntingdon. You could get amazing gas mileage, but you had to watch the car engine didn't overheat (no airflow on the radiator... it's like revving it up to 3000 rpms in your driveway, and leaving it there for 2 hours). It's hella dangerous, and pisses off guys who are driving a 70,000 pound grudge. I'd just as soon not do that.

Primates, You're a good dude and that was a very kind thing you did.
Out of all of your stories, 2/3 of them involved women.
2/3 of them involved vehicles.
0/3 involved you tapping one of those ladiis
The next one better be good!
Just kidding dude, I know you are young yet, but you sure lead an eventful life.
