Isaac Hanson of pop group Hanson undergoes surgery in Dallas after chest, shoulder pain
DALLAS (AP) — A member of the pop group Hanson underwent surgery Thursday to remove a blood clot in his lungs after suffering chest and shoulder pain following a concert this week, the band’s publicist said.
Isaac Hanson, 26, was diagnosed with venous thoracic outlet syndrome, said spokesman Ken Phillips. Also known as Paget-Schroetter Syndrome, the potentially fatal ailment occurs when a blood clot forms in a deep arm or shoulder vein.
Dr. Bradley Grimsley, Hanson’s surgeon, said he expected the guitarist to make a full and swift recovery, Phillips said in a news release.
Phillips said Hanson has had similar problems in the past, but not to this extent. Hanson was taken to Baylor University Medical Center Tuesday night after a show at the House of Blues.
Hanson and his doctor were to discuss the surgery at a news conference Friday. Phillips said Hanson may be released from the hospital then.
Hanson canceled shows in Tulsa, Okla., St. Louis, Mo., and Kansas City, Mo. The band expects to resume its tour Oct. 8 in Knoxville, Tenn.
The group is best known for their 1997 hit single, “MMMBop.”

Not to make fun of this guy's health issue at all, but what exactly are these guys playing at their shows, two-and-a-half hours of "MMMBop" over and over? Personally, I'd get tired of hearing it after the second or third time through.

I had a guitar student (tweeny-bopper girl, obviously) who just hung on every note they ever played. She used to make me teach her the songs... which were surgically aimed directly at girls 8-13. It was horrible. They actually had the big hit album, but then a few more minor ones, including a Christmas album that went at least gold. I read somewhere that their parents managed their finances, and they actually got to keep some money, so they're doing okay. They're the David Cassidy of their generation. I predict a house gig in Vegas in a few years.BadDazeRob wrote: Not to make fun of this guy's health issue at all, but what exactly are these guys playing at their shows, two-and-a-half hours of "MMMBop" over and over?
