A night on the Town ( hamlet,burg,ville,whatever! )

Post by tornandfrayed »

I talked a couple of friends of mine into going out to see live music the other night. They usually don't go out much and I am on a personal vendetta to get people out to the clubs, so...... I thought I would get a lineup together covering several bases to insure something they liked was on the platter. This is how it went...

9:00 U.S. Hotel and Acid Reflux.

What a blast! These guys have a very eclectic set and a very tight performance. They were great fun to watch and had eveybody in the small venue appreciating their skill set. Our friends had several drafts and were enjoying themselves.

10:00 Shane Nichol's and Fat Vinny and the Wiseguys

Big, Wet, Oozing globs of the blues! What more can I say? I wish I could stretch 7 frets from my index finger to my pinky! These guys moved the room. Setup in the back of the location, Vinnie and the boys had a little room to maneuver. There was no place in the main room so we set ourselves down right in front of the boys. Ghosts of Howlin wolf, I was floored. Our friends were a little hesitant about being so close to the music but quickly warmed up! A few more drafts and man oh man!

11:30 Victory Lane Saloon and Silver Sunday

So we have gone from acoustic jam to the blues and then... What else? Silver Sunday plays a great mix of music and has a great female singer! What a blast! Everyone started to really loosen up at this point and the band was awesome!

12:30 City Limits for Shift

I guess maybe our friends were a little tired by now and when we walked into the venue we heard the ever present chords of "Sweet Home Alabama". Shift was doing a great job and had the dance floor hoping but alas we could not make the end of the show.

1:30 Denny's for a Grand Slam breakfast

We talked and talked and these friends really didn't realize that there was such a diverse array of local talent! I was proud of the performances we saw even though I am not affiliated with these groups. It gave me a great sense of pride to be able to do this for people on very short notice.

Kudos to all! Thank you for your efforts and stay true to yourselves!

And by the way our friends want to know when we are going out again....

::folds arms and scowls, trying to look all mean and stuffis:: And why don't I see Ever Since Yesterday with Lost Ledny @ Dougherties on that list? Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm? For shame!
That was a great show.

Acid Reflux is always a great time. They know how to jam out and party. Awesome tee-shirts too!

Hey Silver Sunday would like to thank each one of you for coming out to see us. (and all the other bands you went to see for that matter) We had a blast at Victory Lane, the dance floor was packed all night.
We need more people like yourself and your friends that are willing to go out and have a sampler of the diverse local music scene. Glad your friends had fun and we hope to see you guys and gals out again real soon. Thanks for supporting the scene and getting some fresh blood into the crowds for all of these bands.

Thanks
Todd & Silver Sunday

On behalf of the Wiseguys and myself we were glad to see you there and the shouts of 'Play more original stuff" were VERY Welcome. (BTW, I'm still totally crushing on Marina  you're a lucky guy. )

To what Skatetoad said about wishing more people were check out the wide range of talent around, Amen, Amen and Amen

To esa, C'mon Hollidaysburg to Johnstown is a healthy little drive when you're out partyin, be fair. Maybe they'll check out Johnstown this coming weekend.

and if you do, Come by Magro's, friday night, where Fat Vinny & The Wiseguys will have a full-tilt boogie electric set for you. (I know, shameless plug)

Denny's? The King's Country breakfast is a better value but suit yourself.

But seriuosly, what Skatetoad said, AMEN

I agree.. but I'm joking around. Just trying to do my part for shameless plugging. Actually, we booked it down to Hollidaysburgh from Johnstown. So.. It's a normal event. When you have more then one fave band playing, you learn direct routes.

So.. no offense meant.. chill out.. grab a beer and rock it!

Lol.. Oh what evil bastages we can be.

Actually, if we hadn't gotten to Bs'ing with friends, we might have made it up to see y'all at Shan Nichols (sp?) before last call. Hopefully next time we'll get a chance to meander in to one of your shows. That's on my list of "to see's" this year. I was excited I finally got to see the Grimm. So, you're next!
