i think it awesome that no body has bashed anyone for their different tastes, even though someone might not really like a style or something they still respect it, thats why metal rules
i def agree that sepulturas cover of symptom of the universe rules
another fav cover of mine is when bruce dickinson covered sabbath bloody sabbath - the song just rips

Black Sabbath appreciation week
Yeah, everyone on here is cool like that, otherwise, Some of us would be burned at the stake.
We all have a common bond, so we all relate to one another to an extent.
Dave, that Sepultura's version of Symptom is out of this world, it just shreds.
Another one is Hate Theory doing 'Sabbath Bloody Sabbath'
And Solitude Aeturnus doing 'Heaven and Hell'
I always enjoyed all the Sabbath Tribute Albums over the years. There was some turds thrown in there along the way.
Sabbath songs lend themselves well to Death Metal and Thrash Metal bands.
That would be cool to do huh?
We'll have to jam some of this in the Fall when your work slows down.

Sepultura's cover of Symptom of the Universe is on Roots Bloody Roots, which has a bunch of cool covers (including a Celtic Frost cover of Procreation of the Wicked) and other demos/rarities. It's not the most consistent album, but then again, it's not really a proper album.

Shit, yeah you're right. They have a song called "Roots Bloody Roots." I always get confuzzled about that.metalchurch wrote:Paul, it's actually on their album called 'Blood Rooted', it was also on the digi-pack version of ''Roots' is that the one you have?

Sabbath Appreciation Week? Fuckin' A!
I remember growing up back in the 80's, Sabbath was a bad word. The people into the hair bands dissed Sabbath. The people into thrash/"speed metal" dissed Sabbath. Mainstream media totally ignored them. You rarely ever seen any people in bands in magazines cite them as an influence, as hard as that may be to believe. It made me develop a strong hatred back then for hair bands, and even thrash, from all the disrespect dished out to Sabbath from those camps.
Looking at their late 80's offerings and the wimpy singer they had (Tony Martin), I suppose some of it was warranted, but it wasn't just about that, people were shitting all over Sabbath's entire history. In fact, about the only people I knew that would actually admit to liking Black Sabbath, were musicians I knew at the time. At least that's how it was in the area I grew up in, not sure about other places.
It wasn't until the mid-90's and the reunion thing coming about, that it was suddenly "alright" to be a Sabbath fan.
Anyway, favorite Black Sabbath album? I can't say that I have one. Every time I state one as a favorite, I'll listen to a different one and be reminded about how good it is, and think that one's my favorite. I definitely *don't* care for the Tony Martin albums though. I tried. I listened to Cross Purposes and Forbidden over and over again for several days, and they just didn't do it for me. "Eternal Idol" is pretty good, but I attribute that to the fact that Ray Gillen mainly laid down the style for that album, and Martin just sang it the same way that Gillen did.

I am going to vote for BORN AGAIN !!!!!!!!!!!!!
wow that makes you a hardcore sabbath fan if you ever heard born again !!!
Tony is a master at riffs, a true legend !!!
As for the singing discussion , I feel that ozzy just has such a distinctful voice it makes him so unique and dio my god can it get any better?
I started really noticing halford on the painkiller album and ripper owens is no bum either what a range !!
thats crazy about sep... the professor is a true professor that opened me up to that style, along with pantera!!!! wow, I feel it all has its place in metal even bands like megadeth and metallica I always felt they lacked singing ability , but did they?? I love all there older stuff just raw and in your face... THe front man doesn't need a range from hell but it definatley helps, he needs energy stage presence and so much more !!!!
