Legends in Stoystown closed again
I understand that Legends in Stoystown, PA closed again, which means another venue for bands to play is gone. I drove past there on Saturday and it was closed up. This is one of the nicest, largest places in the area and has a big stage and good acoustics but it is in the middle of nowhere. No matter who tries to open it, they never seem to do well. About 8 to 10 years ago, this place used to have concerts like Foghat, Molly Hatchet, Donnie Iris, and others. It easily holds over 500 people. The last owner did not want to advertise when he had bands and none of the bands had a crowd as a result. It is a shame another venue is out of business.
.
this place seems to always have troubles dating back from atleast my time in the scene around there to like 4 or 5 years now. It's a shame because it is an excellent venue...

This place have been having problems for years.
I played there a few times with a band about 20 years ago. Same story, no crowd even though the owner had a small ad in the Tribune (...could have been the band though). IIRC, even the bigger acts from Pittsburgh didn't seem to draw a crowd. I remember seeing G-Force there...no crowd. G-Force packed the Casa Romani.
Even though it's located along a state road, it seems secluded and it suffers because of that. I'd tell friends from J-Town we were playing there and they say they didn't want to drive all that way.
Very similar scenario for a few other local venues. Yep...it's a shame these places are closing their doors.

I hate to be a prick here but I'm going to be. Let's face facts: All these so-called venues in Johnstown are nothing more than dive bars that are not equipped to have live entertainment. When these places do have bands, you can barely bring in a PA system or turn the volume up past 3 without getting lectured.
That's why you now have your choice of a DJ, Karaoke or an acoustic act. WOW!
The only places now available for bands that are at least on a mid-scale basis as far as gear is concerned is the Boulvard Grill and Westmont Gardens. Katie's Place hasn't had too many groups lately and this Four Corners of the World has an occasional band, but that's it.
It's time to pack up the van, truck or trailer and start doing some traveling if you want to play. And I understand other areas aren't doing much better. So to all my fellow Johnstowners, Good Luck. This town needs to be flooded over again!

Okay, so Legends is closed. The point of contact there, Ed, didn't bother to take the time to call me & let me know. He insisted that I call him a week or so before October 6th to touch base about that gig date. That is a really nice place to play. But that's alright, the gig was for the door anyway & from what I understand, the place couldn't draw a crowd if deceased rock & roll legends would come back to life or appear as ghosts & perform a free show!!!!

Hey, if you're not gonna bitch about the current state of music, and say how much better shit used to be in the roaring 20's, you should avoid these threads.Lifer wrote:Ace's?
I don't can say anything about the sound there.

Seriously though, anybody in J-town on the 28th can see Fedup at Katies.
It will not be acoustic.

Katies is a nice venue...We played there last year and was a decent turn out. Especially for a metal show. We played with Lost Ledny and they had a pretty decent following. Good Luck with that FEDUP
