Call it what you want, but I have respect for people who have been a part of the scene for DECADES.
Christ, I've been in bands since 96 and come off as a noob around people like Hurricane and Songsmith.
They have something.
It's called credibility, getcha some.
Are your cheeks cold?
Call me.

its not just my cheeks dude, songsmith does his bluegrass thing there once a month, bad daze is playing there this weekend, flight 19 plays there, lies inc made their debut there, I'm sure there's more, I don't have a copy of the schedule in front of me.
All I'm saying is supporting a boycott of the hitching post might seem like a good call in respect to the hurricanes, but there's a ton of other bands that play there that you are alienating in that boycot, not to mention all of the newer bands that they give a chance to.

Maybe, but I try to remember that I'm a noob compared to rickw, Randy Rutherford and Ric Criste, and some guys on here who've been gigging since the 1960's... or the bluegrass guys who've been gigging since (gulp) the 40's. I think the secret to longevity is to keep your head down, but your eyes open.
A lot of us owe my friends in the Hurricanes for opening doors for us, but I don't think they'd stop being so cool to me just because I still play at The Post. They're way nicer than that. Anyway, if you've ever seen them live, you know they'll be alright. ------->JMS

All the above play other venues in the area.
I'll see them at those establishments if I choose.
Alienating noone but who I intend to.
I'm not encouraging anyone else to do anything, I just agree with the OP.
It's not a revolution here, just one guys opinion.

That sucks man, that's what I thought you meant.
Well, best of luck to you. I have been to probably about 20 RGR shows and have both albums. You are a great performer Red. Hope to see you out playing again soon.

Who?.......Just kidding.
Maybe their lack of participation in this thread of similar discussions enforces the "Been there, done that." saying. I've been playing out since 1977 and some things that go on around Altoona make me feel like a noob. For instance, I can't even get a job in some of these places around town. It's the nature of the game.
Sticking together as bands is a good thing but just let the audience choose their own boycotts.

Owner Roy Bookhamer of the Hitching Post in Altoona was in a panic Saturday when he tuned in the Big Ten Network on DirecTV and got a different game from Penn State vs. Florida International.
The panic didn't last: A glitch in the monitor led a customer to tune in another TV, which revealed that the network featured multiple games, including the Penn State contest that people were thronging to the bar to watch because they couldn't see it on cable.
The good fortune of being one of only three bars in the city with access to the first Penn State game was a blessing for Bookhamer, ''finally one thing working out for us,'' in contrast to his so-far thwarted hope the state will allow slots in bars, he said.
The Hitching Post camaraderie was never as beautiful as Saturday, friend and loyal customer Christian Hepner said. ''It's a hoot here,'' he said.
But while great for Bookhamer, the diminished accessibility of Penn State games is bad for the area's people, Hepner said.
Live bands are still jamming at the Post...regardless of the "boycott"....we have had a packed bar with no problems....Born and the Beanstalk is here tonite and it's a packed bar....any new local bands or any other bands that are interested in jamming, let us know. NO cover charge!! NO snowstorms since the hurricanes passed.....(or cops or ambulances!!) Come on in for good food and good times 5th Annual Halloween Party is coming up....show up in your best costume....

and we will continue to give other bands and newer bands a chance....
BOBBY...this is a personal message to you...this bar boycott is crap and you know it....
Butch can so kill the live venue in the area....Butch works most of the bars in Altoona doing refrigeration work and is friends with the bar owners in the area....how far do you want this to go??
Your boycott has NOT affected his business in any way, shape or form....this thread is just ridiculous...to keep it going it just insane. Let it go and get a life. (PUFF PUFF)
Twisted and Dirty Sanchez....all that you are posting is saved and what you are saying is called "slander!" Keep it up....it's way fun!
