Bar Boycott ?????

Post by nakedtwister »

What do you do as fellow music lovers, fellow musician, and/or patrons when a bar informs a well loved and followed band that their presence causes their fans to start fights with other patrons. You Boycott the friggin' bar. No longer will I, my girl, nor our friends patronize The Hitching Post. The problem is the owner not the Band. We will look for " The Stormy Ones " and other band at better locations. Venting concluded....

I have never seen the Hurricanes at the Hitching Post, so I have no idea what kind of crowd showed up there, but the Hitching Post gives a lot of newer bands a chance. I don't support an accross the board boycott of the Hitching Post at all. I've seen good bands there. Go see the 'canes at Shaws bar on Sundays. The Hitching Post will get the message if they are dead on Sundays. An accross the board boycott doesn't send a specific message at all.

Anybody else that isn't planning on boycotting the Hitching Post feel free to come see Echo Chamber there October 19th.

P.S.

Whats the Hitching Post slogan?

Something like "always a band, never a cover" Something like that, I don't remember exactly. But the Hitching Post's place in the Altoona music scene is pretty substantial.

Don't say "boycott the Hitching Post" out of one side of your mouth, and then bitch about the local music scene out of the other.

Stick to your guns MEYATCH, but when the dude snorts up your pay for the night, at least make him cut you out a fat line.

It's clubs like this that ruin the music scene and by supporting these venues, we're only hurting it ourselves.

C'mon man, the Hurricanes are probably one of,(if not THE) most respected bands in the area. They have awesome fans and treat everybody great. Now all of the sudden, they have some violent following? GTFO!!! This Butch dude is not only hurting the music scene by showing other bands that he personally is a shady bastard, but also giving the impression that the Canes have rowdy fans. Yeah real good he's doing for the scene.

Personally, i can't say that I support an across the board boycott either. I like playing the hitching post, as well as going there to hear other bands, or just drink. It is, however, sad that the canes showed their loyalty to that bar and things happened the way they did, but I can't say that it effects me to the point that I will stop going there or playing there.

Any bar that supports live music in this town is crucial to the music scene, no matter how big or small it is, no matter who plays there and who doesn't. I will continue to support the bars that help live music, and I think we all need that mentality to help this area thrive, and hopefully one day make all DJ-run bars realize where they are going wrong.

Haha! I loved the reference Brian! **** snowstorm!

For us, its time to move on, wont be the last bar we got thrown out of and it wasn't the first. We will take our following to Shaws hopefully, some that dont drive have no choice but to stay to there closest watering hole. Ive seen more fights at Chuckie Cheese than i have with the Canes anyways.

Thanks for the support guys but it wouldnt be fair to other great bands that play there, until they get screwed and i hope they dont. Then they will know who they are dealing with. Butch has had it out for us since i knocked him off his barstool one night he canned us.

We had a nice run on Sundays for 3 years and will always remember the good crowds and fun times, thats permanent. Broken Pony are great guys and players and will be there now.

For the bands who say playing the same area burns you out quick heres some history stats.
City Limits/Sabs for 5 years every tuesday
Peter C's 7 years on thursdays
Post 3 years every sunday.

One thing i do know is we will always be gigging somewhere....Like September 9th RFTT Show Heritage Plaza....w00t!

This is not directed at anyone at all. I've been sitting back and observing things;

Over the last few months there have been alot of bitching and complaining about bars and their reputation.
There has been alot of shit being spoken about how the scene around here sucks.

Well, I can only say this: Atleast you have met people to play with, and that you have a band to begin with, and not only that, you have gigs and are playing out.
I can't even find 1 person to jam with, let alone get a band together. I just get pissed sometimes how ungrateful people are.

There's alot of generalizing about bars, and how they will rip you off. Not everyone gets shafted, and sometimes that's a risk, but you have to be ready to accept that, learn from your mistakes, and move on.

Make the most of what you have, if not quit playing out simple as that.

Once again, don't get all pissed, this is only my opinion take it for what it's worth.

So once again Bobby is a silver-tongued devil who has no clue what happens behind the scene nor run an established bar...I believe I took the old Hitching Post to a new level for all musicians in the area...if you don't see that, sucks to be you or should I say open another bottle of Wild Turkey. There are legal issues in some of the posts you have made, so how far do you want to go with this?? Since I'm the shady bastard you will find out if this keeps up. I give everybody a fair chance, and an even handshake. When your pot smoking buddies started following you into the bar, I asked Felix to step back and take a break so I could clean the fights and small problems up in my establishment. As I have 2 jobs, not just one...how many jobs do you have, Bobby?? Just playing the drums and drinking Wild Turkey?? Continue playing your game, I will take care of matters my own way. Thanks for all the publicity as you got everyones attention...we will continue to do our live music....thanks once again. When you hit me, I should have thrown you out then. Thank you.

Yawn. QQ
Someone lock this thread up before everyone, and god forbid myself, starts correcting this and being opinionated.
Wait, too late.

3. Bobby doesnt drink.
6. Bobby was very mature about what he said.
1. If i was to compare the maturity in your post vs any post ive seen on rockpage in the last year, it would be a sad sight. All i see here is a 1078 character flame. Moderators usually ban people like this.
5. Publicity? Everyone whos on this site has been to the post before, im sure. All thats happened is that you've shown your dark side in a raging shout-out.
7. The canes are alright with this it seems, chill. Life goes on. You mighta made it into a lyric or two.
3. If you noticed, some people were sticking up for you. Might change after they read that.
4. If you just want to be a dick and cry, theres http://www.myspace.com

Personally, I would have probably came back for other bands until I read this and seen a little of the man I'd be supporting. Oh, and I numbered them wrong so you can have another reason to bitch about potheads. Just another service I provide, I'll send the bill.

The call for a bar boycott to all of Rockpage could have a very negative influence on all Rockpage muscians and their ability to book shows!

Not sure how much bar owners in your area communicate, but if word got around......do ya see where this may go?

At least you have venues for live music!
Mifflin County blows for live shows....
All we have is the Bierhaus (if you want to get a DUI go there), the Water Front (way too small) and the firehouses/private clubs (who, for the most part, just don't want the hassles anymore).

Green Gables is trying....but it seems like everyone who buys that place eventually has to give up the ghost.....

There is always going to be a problem between owners and bands.

You guys managed to close Peter Cs.....keep up the (good?) work. Let's see how many we can close !

Let's get it down to only a few places to play, then we'll have to play for nothing just to get into the place.

Local musician's forum hell bent on making things worse for everyone because the owner doesn't like them. Too bad. Stay away if you don't want to play there. But don't close the place if someone else wants to play there.

If your skin is that thin....get out of the business.

Bic, I totally agree with you. You picked up where I left off with what I was saying.
I know that this is an easy place to vent, and even let your friends and others know of what happened to you and warn them. But it's not fair to the establishment, not to have their input. Besides there are 2 sides to every story, and most times both parties are at fault to some extent. There's not much here in rural PA and we have to make the most of what we have, and give support where it's due.
Anything negative will have impacts one way or another, and certainly doesn't allow progress to be made.

I believe that you can go about it 4 ways:
1. Pursue legal action
2. Take matters into your own hands and bash the dude's face in.
3. Whine like a bitch about the situation.
4. Forget about it and move on.

You know, EVERY club owner has a bad reputation. I think I've heard something bad about every club within 100 miles of here. Every club will eventually piss somebody off, and every band will eventually be pissed off by a club. If you expect tea parties and sunshine, you're in the wrong business. (Note to self: go into the tea party and sunshine business.)

Hurricanes fans and others are encouraged to spend this Sunday night with Splink at Pellegrine's. We promise you at least one extended guitar vs. sax duel, since you are known to enjoy things like musicianshipness. You'll have to provide your own herbs.

Is vocalizing a genuine concern Whining like a bitch?
Remember the original poster was a fan, not a pissed off band member who was venting because his band got shafted.

Maybe we should all suck every bar owners dick in Altoona then.
Fuck that. YOUR fans are YOUR scene, not your venue.

Hawk, you're a cool dude, but if you think that rockpage is responsible for Pete's closing, you're ignorant to the "behind the scenes" of that place.

The scene should be about UNITY first with Fans, then with other Musicians, Then with your beloved bar owners.

I think the Canes just proved there is no shortage of places to play, if you've got what it takes.
